Rachel's parents, Dorothy Adams and the late Byron Foulger, are both well-known motion picture and television actors. It was they who first introduced Rachel to acting. The family is a native of Portland, Oregon, but relocated during high school, to Los Angeles, where she attended University High School and UCLA.

Since that point, she had started out in motion picture, starring in 'When Wor'ds Collide'. She also guest starred in 'Ironside', 'The Andy Griffith Show', and 'Alfred Hitchcock Presents'.

Rachel Ames has the honor and distinction of being the longest-running performer on ABC Daytime's longest-running daytime drama, General Hospital . She joined the cast and started work on February 23, 1964, less than one year after the program's first airdate!

Rachel has been nominated three times for an Emmy Award as Best Actress in a Daytime Drama.

Rachel married actor Barry Cahill in June of 1968. They have two daughters, Christine Cahill and Susan Thomas, and she is a grandmother to two children, Jocelyn and Mark!
In her spare time, Rachel enjoys gardening, tennis, and cooking.
