Back in 2018, Rey Rosales came to Genoa City investigating the disappearance of Victoria Newman’s suddenly abusive sometime husband, J.T. Hellstrom. Immediately — awkward handshake be damned — the detective made friends with folks like Nick Newman. And by “made friends,” we mean had Nick arrested when he learned that Victoria’s brother had used J.T.’s credit card. For some reason, Nick took offense to that.

From the start, Rey hit it off with Nick’s ex, Sharon, after he fixed her, er, plumbing. She gave him a month’s worth of free coffee at Crimson Lights, and it wasn’t long before they were stripping down. Was it love or caffeine? We feel like they spent the next few years trying to figure that out.

Just like the Mounties, Rey always gets his man. Eventually, he did what he came to do, solved the mystery of J.T.’s disappearance (OK, J.T. did that for him when “the dead man” popped up again to terrorize the ladies who thought they’d killed him) and cleared Sharon’s name. Now he was free to be a man about town!

The good news about Rey’s new life in Genoa City was that it meant he could reconnect with little brother Arturo and little sister Lola while in town. The bad news was… well, they didn’t stick around nearly as long as Rey did. Also, roll your eyes back into your head, Abby Newman; this hottie was the rare one that wasn’t for you!

Though Rey and Sharon got together pretty much right away, they never really managed to smooth out their relationship. How could they when he found her unending obsession with former husband/perennial bad influence Adam Newman utterly maddening, and she found it — and we’re paraphrasing here — “Just look at him!” Adam’s response to Rey’s discomfort? “Go ahead, look. She’s not wrong.”
Reunited, and It Feels So… Bad

When Rey’s estranged wife Mia showed up after having cheated on him with kid brother Arturo, Sharon amused herself by picturing her new rival taking a swan dive off a cliff. And once Rey declared that he was going to make a go of it with Mia, Sharon removed the imaginary water below her.

Rey was about to leave Mia for Sharon when his missus told them that she was pregnant with his child. Which was true… except for the fact that she was actually pregnant with Arturo’s child. Which meant that they’d cheated on Rey. Again. So, yeah, they hightailed it out of town fast.

Sharon and Rey were still on the outs when the guests at Abby’s hotel opening downed drinks spiked with party drugs. Oddly enough, though, Sharon falling asleep mid-story did not discourage Rey from getting back together with her! Or from finishing his story! “And then I said to him… ”

At the Genoa City PD, Rey and Paul Williams worked together to bust Zoe, aka the woman who had spiked the drinks. But more often than not, the two cops were butting heads for one reason or another. So once the older crime-fighter kinda vanished into the shadows, Rey… Well, let’s just say that his investigation of the disappearance wasn’t the most thorough.
Guys and Molls

Hardnosed gumshoe Rey Rosales was hot and cold with his ditsy dame. Up, down, Adam, Rey, it would drive any flatfoot out of his mind, see? OK, this is from Halloween, but we thought we’d spice things up a bit.

Sharon and Rey finally tied the knot on New Year’s Eve 2020. Adam was lurking on the sidelines, as usual, but he never intervened. Which all but assured that Sharon would continue obsessing over him and getting drawn back into his orbit again and again and again!

By now, Rey was just exhausted with “Adam, Adam, Adam.” Stick a fork in him, because he was done! At least, that’s what we were thinking. Really, he’d been poisoned by thallium and almost died. But again, he was pretty sure that was from Adam! The Newman family’s black sheep was simply the person to whom all bumpy roads led!

It turned out that it wasn’t Adam that had poisoned Rey but his babymama, Chelsea Lawson, who had by that point morphed into a Bond villain! She’d been faking her paralysis and slowly killing Rey to frame Adam. Even worse, Sharon was right about Adam’s innocence!
They Gotta Have Faith

Well, if that isn’t the look of two people madly in tolerance of each other! By this stage in their young marriage, Rey was pretty much only hanging around to see stepdaughter Faith through her kidney crisis. But since it took a little while for her to bounce back, he ended up staying put longer than he expected.
A New Beginning? Nope!

What’s a little poisoning between friends? Because that’s what Chelsea and Rey became! After all, they’d both been fighting nausea after years of riding the Sharon/Adam merry-go-round. They were getting closer and closer, and then… we learned that Rey was going the way of the rest of the Rosales family and leaving the canvas. Bummer.
