Helena brought Cassandra to town to seduce Luke’s son Ethan as part of her plan to have Ethan fall in love with her, only to then break his heart. Cassandra turned out to be Helena’s daughter Irina, who Helena shot and killed in the end.
Helena and her grandson Nikolas were often at odds. However, one person Helena had a truly special relationship with was her great-grandson, Spencer.
Nikolas was at odds with his grandmother once again when she and Evil Luke planned to blow up The Haunted Star with many Port Charles residents onboard. At one point Nikolas attacked his grandmother, but Luke stepped in.
Luke was committed to a mental institution when he exhibited odd behavior. For months viewers believed there were two Lukes, one the real Luke and the other an evil twin. However, there was only one, who was suffering from D.I.D, and his evil half was in cahoots with Helena.
When Luke’s sons went missing again, he suspected Helena. Helena had been imprisoned on Cassadine Island at the time by Nikolas and knew nothing of their kidnappings. Frank Smith turned out to be the culprit this time. Helena did return his grandson Jake Webber to Luke, who everyone believed Luke ran down and killed while driving drunk years earlier.
Helena orchestrated, with the help of Peter August, to kidnap Drew Cain and implant his twin Jason Morgan’s memory in him. She also wanted him as her own super-soldier that would obey only her commands. Early on Drew found it hard to break free of her mind control.
Helena slowly wasted away from a disease on Cassadine Island. In the end, she had several visitors, including Jason (Drew) and Sam. She died while Nikolas looked on.
Sam was unable to shake Helena’s last words to her. Sam received ghostly visits from Helena taunting her that every time she found happiness it would never last.
Jason (Drew) and Franco went in search of his missing years and were led to Cassadine Island. Jason (Drew) recalled Helena conditioning him to be her supersoldier while a young Jake watched.
Helena had years ago stolen The Chimera Project, a biological weapon from the WBX. In a book of drawings and stories she left to Jake was an image of the chimera.
Years earlier Helena had conditioned young Jake Webber to unleash The Chimera Project one day. At The Nurses Ball, her ghost prodded the young boy to do just that. The weapon would have wiped out Port Charles.
Initially, the plan to switch Jason and Drew was said to be Helena’s with Cesar Faison, and Faison’s son Peter played a minor part in it. Later it was revealed he played a much more integral part, even orchestrating Drew’s kidnapping.
In Afghanistan, Henry “Shiloh” Archer was the one who helped turn Drew Cain over to Helena. Shiloh later discovered Peter was working with Helena to gain Drew and blackmailed him with the information.
In her will, Helena left her portrait to Nikolas. In time the portrait turned out to have a hidden codicil in it that disinherited Valentin Cassadine and made Nikolas the true heir to the family fortune.
After it came out that Valentin was not a Cassadine, but the illegitimate son of Helena and an unknown man, he received a ghostly visit from his mother. She gleefully explained her plan to pass her bastard off as Mikkos’ son to punish him, and to link her blood to the Spencer’s through Valentin and Lulu’s daughter Charlotte.
