Child’s Play

When Laura Wright made her daytime debut as Ally Rescott on Loving in 1991, she was just a fresh-faced kid — with a blindingly bright future!
The former Laura Sisk couldn’t hide her elegant side any more than she could those enviable cheekbones. And why would she?
Loving struck pay dirt with the pairing of Wright’s Ally and future Guiding Light co-star Paul Anthony Stewart’s Casey Bowman.
Casey being a hot commodity and all, Ally had to fend off any number of interlopers, among them Rebecca Gayheart’s Hannah Mayberry.
You can see how Wright had Ally react to Hannah’s interest in her other love interest, Bull leading man Michael Weatherly’s Coop Alden. It was a whole thing.
Obviously, Ally was the better choice for Coop. When you can generate this kind of chemistry in nothing more than still photos? C’mon.
When ABC remixed Loving as The City in 1995, MVP Wright was one of the few cast members that was invited to cross over.
Front and center on the “new” show were not only Wright but another future Emmy winner, Amelia Heinle (now Young & Restless’ Victoria).
Years before Wright became Carly Corinthos No. 4 on General Hospital, her City love interest was Ted King, who’d eventually play Port Charles’ Alcazar twins.
After The City was cancelled in 1997, Wright was scooped up by Guiding Light to play Reva Shayne’s surprise sister, stripper Cassie Layne.
Guiding Light thrust Wright into a love triangle with Dinah Marler (Yellowstone star Wendy Moniz) and Hart Jessup (Frank Grillo of Captain America fame).
Against all odds, in 2000, Cassie became kinda-sorta the Princess Diana of San Cristobel. All she had to do was say…
There were no glass slippers involved, but Guiding Light did indeed give Cassie her own Prince Charming — Bradley Cole’s Richard Winslow.
… Cassie probably would have had a rap sheet a mile long.
Upon leaving behind the role of Cassie, Wright succeeded Sarah Joy Brown, Tamara Braun and Jennifer Bransford as Carly on General Hospital.
Years after Wright joined the soap, she finally got to throw sparks with Maurice Benard, whose Sonny Corinthos had had heavy story with all the other Carlys.
Though Wright’s real-life boo — Guiding Light alum Wes Ramsey — played Peter August on General Hospital for years, their characters were never paired.
Nope. As in this 2010 photo, Wright elevates the little black dress into a very big deal. Style for miles.
“Duck” all you like, there’s no missing the sweetness of these shots of Wright with a couple of fine, feathered friends.
All that glittered on the fall day that Carly married bestie Jason Morgan with kids Josslyn and Michael by her side… was the bride herself.
At the 44th Annual Daytime Emmys, Wright was the golden girl who shone most brightly. Without even trying, if we’re not mistaken. (Bonus points!)
