The Xarah ship launched when the criminal and the good girl met upon his return to Salem in 2019. Xander, of course, hit on her immediately, but she was having none of it. However, one heartbreak over the brothers Brady (Rex and Eric) later and Sarah jumped into bed with him.
After ending it with both Rex and Eric, Sarah discovered she was pregnant with Eric’s baby. However, he had just reunited with the previously presumed dead Nicole. Not wanting to disrupt their reunion, Sarah enlisted Xander’s help to keep it a secret. He was all too happy to oblige.
When Sarah decided she wanted to have an abortion, Kristen blackmailed Xander into helping her and Rolf transfer the embryo to her womb. However, Rolf discovered Kristen was already pregnant and then Sarah changed her mind about wanting to keep her baby. So… it all worked out!
It wasn’t all gloom and doom for Xarah in the early days — this is Xander we’re talking about, after all. Which means moments of levity, including Xander dressing up as a caveman for Halloween, were sprinkled in amidst the tears and anguish.
After the near abortion, Xander posed as the baby’s father, but there was still tons of drama ahead. That included Xander helping Sarah give birth on the side of the road and then switching Sarah’s baby, who died, with Kristen’s very much alive baby. Then, baby Mickey was diagnosed with cancer and needed a bone marrow transplant, which led to all the truths coming out.
While pretending Xander was her baby’s father, the two crazy kids fell in love and even decided to get married. However, the truth about the baby switch came out. In a surprise to no one but Xander, Sarah left him just as they were about to say, “I do.”
Undeterred, Xander tried to get back into Sarah’s good graces. Though she tried to fight it, she couldn’t help but feel a pull towards her living-way-outside-the-lines beau. To try and keep him at bay, she enlisted Brady’s help to make Xander believe they were having an affair.
Xander wouldn’t let a little thing like a fake affair with his cousin get in their way, so he continued to try and win Sarah back. His efforts included saving her mother Maggie’s life when she tried to hang herself and buying a headstone to help Sarah say goodbye to the baby she lost. You know, the usual things.
Xander’s constant pursuit paid off, as Sarah agreed to accompany him to Ciara and Ben’s wedding. Though she insisted it didn’t mean they were back together, they did go on a proper date after the chaos of the church explosion subsided.
With the drama, secrets, and tears behind them, Sarah and Xander started to enjoy a fun, flirty relationship. Xander set out to prove himself to her, while Sarah wouldn’t let any of his detractors (who had a point, by the way) come between them.
Sarah and Xander set out to get the goods on Xander’s cousin Philip, who was vying for control of Titan and for Victor’s approval. To accomplish their task, they lurked around town, hot on his tail. They also pretended to break up, so Sarah could cozy up to Philip to gain intel. While they lashed out at each other in public, they latched onto each other behind closed doors.
The pair had the same idea to propose on the same day. While Xander got down on one knee with a ring, Sarah popped the question with a cake.
Unfortunately, their wedding only lived in their fantasies after escaped convict Kristen kidnapped Sarah. Donning a “Sarah” mask, Kristen broke up with a devastated Xander and shipped Sarah off to a private island.
After almost a year, Sarah finally resurfaced. The only problem — she thought she was Renee DuMonde and in love with Tony DiMera. That was all thanks to the mind altering drug she was injected with and only Renee’s diary to read while held in captivity.
Fearing she was lost to him forever, Xander moved ahead with his wedding to Gwen, who sabotaged Sarah’s recovery. However, the truth came out and Sarah received the antidote.
After a brief period where Sarah was forced to relive Xander’s baby swap, they reunited. They were blissfully happy once again — except for the fact that Sarah feared she killed Abigail while hallucinating.
After another failed wedding attempt, and Sarah getting cleared in Abigail’s murder, Sarah and Xander finally tied the knot. Not even a surprise visit from Gwen could stop them this time.
