When Bold & Beautiful viewers think of the Spencers, the first of them to come to mind is almost always Dollar Bill — with good reason. Since the character’s introduction in 2009, Spencer Publications’ boss been front and center. However, it wasn’t he who planted the family tree’s roots in L.A. but his father.
In the soap’s early days, wealthy widower Bill Sr. kept one Eye on Fashion and the other on his innocent daughter, Caroline. Needless to say, it wasn’t easy. Even though Ridge Forrester’s reputation as a cad was even greater than his reputation as a designer, Bill’s little girl wanted him in a big way.
Despite Ridge’s philandering, Caroline was hell-bent on marrying him. Sure, after her first walk down the aisle ended in a fainting spell, she wore his brother Thorne’s wedding band for a while. But in the end, she got the “I do”-over that she wanted and became Mrs. Ridge Forrester… just in time to succumb to leukemia.
After Caroline died, it was revealed that she had a secret twin sister, Karen, who’d been kidnapped as baby and taken to Texas, where, presumably, she’d spoken her first word with a drawl. As an adult, she endured one disastrous relationship after another before realizing that she’s a lesbian and marrying wife Danielle.
In 2010, Bill learned that he was a couple of decades late passing out cigars, because it turned out that his college affair with the late Kelly Hopkins had left him with more than memories, it had left him with a son, Liam Cooper. To say that he didn’t take after his old man would be the understatement of the millennium!
Three years later, Bill discovered that Liam wasn’t the only kid that he had out there. Ex-lover Quinn Fuller hadn’t used the money he gave her years earlier to get an abortion, she’d sneakily given birth to their son, Wyatt. As you can imagine, some fences needed mending before any father/son bonding could take place.
Related by marriage, Bill and Hope Logan aren’t exactly one another’s biggest fans, what with him nearly getting her husband Liam sent to prison for covering up a murder an accident, and her… Well, Bill really didn’t like what a big deal Hope made of that incident. Nobody got hurt, after all. (Except for Poor Dead Vinny.)
If anyone brought out the good in Bill, it was his first wife, Katie Logan. Unfortunately, even she couldn’t keep the bad in him from coming to the fore over and over and over. Eventually, she had to say enough is enough and pull the plug on their marriage(s)… but not before giving her ex a lovely parting gift in the form of…
Bill’s son with Katie is gonna be a handful as he grows up, you can just tell. Even as a youngster, junior deceiver Will was showing his manipulative side as he tried to facilitate a reunion between his estranged mom and dad. As Will gets a little older, his schemes are almost sure to get a lot more successful.
It didn’t work out for Bill when he married former sister-in-law Brooke Logan. (Shocking, we know.) But you’ve gotta admit that the two of them sure do get each other. Just look at the way that she’s managed to combine all of his favorite things in one skimpy outfit.
Although Karen and Dani’s daughter was named after sweet Caroline, she had only that and beauty in common with her late aunt. Caroline 2.0 was the kind of sneak who’d try to push a romantic rival into getting busy on camera with a porn star so as to eliminate the competition for the guy they both wanted.
The result of Caroline’s questionable one-night stand with Thomas Forrester, Douglas is as straight an arrow as they come. How, we can’t figure out, though. Mom never met a plot that she wouldn’t hatch and Dad has no idea how to read a moral compass. Perhaps adoptive mom Hope is just that good an influence on Douglas.
Steffy is no longer technically a Spencer, but she might as well be, considering that she used to try to entice Bill to leave Katie for her, then married not one but both of his sons. What can we say? Until Finn Finnegan came along, Steffy had a type, and that type was almost always a guy with the surname Spencer.
Maybe when Kelly Spencer starts asking about the birds and the bees, her parents Liam and Steffy won’t get into the fact that sometimes no one knows for sure where babies come from, because daddies sometime kiss women other than Mommy, and mommies sometimes react by sleeping with their father-in-law.
As much as Bill may adore Kelly, she does come with an unfortunate accessory as far as he’s concerned: her other grandpa, Ridge Forrester. Over the years, if the men haven’t been trading blows over Katie, they’ve been going all stylish Rocky on one another over her sister, Brooke. Or the weather. These two will take any excuse to brawl!
Liam and then-wife Hope spent the better part of a year mourning the death of their daughter, Beth… for no reason. The baby was fine, they eventually found out. She’d just been stolen by Paris Buckingham’s money-grubbing father and sold as a no-questions-asked, no-returns-accepted newborn to, of all people, her stepsister Steffy.
