Chanel Accidentally Spills the Truth, Tripp Makes a Bold Move and Johnny Starts to Get to Gabi
Wednesday, February 2, 2022: Today on Days of Our Lives, Tripp shares his plans with Roman. Paulina tries to convince Lani to leave town and Gabi starts to doubt Jake.
As we get into Salem today, Tripp’s walking Allie to work, being all lovey-dovey. She apologizes for being so distracted and not connecting with him as much lately, but he never even noticed. He then assures her that it’s fine, though she keeps right on apologizing. “You are the kindest, most caring person that I’ve ever known, and I’m grateful to have you in my life,” she tells him. Then things turn towards Henry and how great a dad Tripp would (and already does) make. He loves the thought. TR wanders over just before Chanel does.
He wants to talk to her about Allie about their roles in Possessed. Neither of them will be doing working on Johnny’s movie, they tell TR. He informs them that they’re both under contract with his production company, and he’s happy to sue them if they don’t do it. TR tries sympathizing, saying he knows what happened with Johnny, thanks to Paulina, and notes that he met Chanel’s “cousin,” Lani. No, no, Chanel corrects him. “She’s not my cousin, she’s my sister.” Whoops. TR starts putting the pieces together immediately, then rushes off, having lost all interest in their contracts.
Over in Brady’s Pub, Tripp tips Roman off that he’s planning on proposing to Allie when he asks where Sami and Lucas are. Allie’s grandfather is surprised, but Tripp tells him that he’s loved her from the start. No matter what, he’s never stopped loving her or Henry. That’s great, Roman says, “But how does Allie feel?” He says to be sure she loves him before Tripp commits, especially after what happened with Johnny and Chanel. Both Roman’s grandkids were on their own too young because Sami was a horrible mom. “I’m not your grandson. I would never treat Allie the way Johnny treated Chanel.”
Gabi and Jake, meanwhile, are dining out at Brady’s when she gets a text from Johnny saying they need to talk. And by talk, he means invite her over for some “heavy breathing” during his workout. Jake demands to see her phone, then laughs at all the emojis. “I thought this guy was supposed to have some sort of fancy education.” Gabi tells him she needs to leave, but Jake starts getting worried that he’s going to end up cut out.
At the DiMera mansion, Chanel knocks on the door and throws divorce papers at her soon-to-be-ex-husband. “I wanted the satisfaction of saying, ‘John Roman DiMera,’ you have just been served.” He’s incredulous at her demands, but Chanel relishes informing him that she’s going to fleece him for all that he has before she leaves.
“You were married like a million times. How much alimony were you paying?” Johnny asks Stefano’s portrait afterwards. Gabi shows up and asks him about talking to a painting, then Johnny asks if she knew his grandfather well. A bit, but they weren’t close. She did admire his business sense, though. Speaking of which… Gabi and Jake are voting Victor onto the board of DiMera and she becomes CEO. Johnny wants to know what’s in it for him.
Johnny flits between flirty and pushy, telling Gabi that Jake’s “dead weight,” and it was time ditch him. He works on convincing her that Jake’s just using her. She trusts her man, though. Fine, Johnny agrees to vote the way Gabi wants “as a show of good faith.” Her phone mysteriously dies, though, when she tries to call Jake and tell him the good news. Oh well, Johnny won’t regret what he did, she says before she leaves. No, Johnny muses when Gabi’s gone, but she and Jake will.
Paulina knocks on Lani’s door and tells her surprised daughter that they’re heading south for the winter. She’s determined to keep Lani and TR from ever crossing paths. Lani’s confused, but Paulina claims she’s never spent winter somewhere like this and she needs to head south, so they should go to her giant Miami house. Lani stops her. “I know what you’re doing.” She thinks Paulina’s just swept up after hearing her yell out “Mom!” when the chandelier fell. It’s touching, but she’s not ready yet. Paulina needs to calm down for now.
But mom isn’t taking “no” for an answer. Big Momma is lonely, and Paulina promised she’d do whatever it takes to get Lani and the kids down there, just for a couple of weeks. Lani insists she’s not abandoning Chanel. That’s so sweet, they’ll bring Chanel along! Fine, Lani agrees, if she can get time off.
Ben notices the cross is upside down and slowly sets it right, clearly unnerved. As soon as he’s gone, it slides right back down. Jake knocks on the door and lets him know the cross is flipped again, then they start chatting about life. “This pushy little creep is after Gabi,” Jake says.
He then fills Ben in on all that’s happening with Johnny and Chanel, and their plan to put Victor on the DiMera board, Gabi in charge of Titan and Jake in charge of DiMera. But this plan to convince Johnny to help has Jake nervous. So what if you can’t trust Johnny, Ben says. As long as you can trust Gabi. Of course he does, Jake says, but there’s something off with Johnny. Some people are just flat out evil. “I think Johnny’s one of those guys.”
In the show’s final moments, Roman gives Tripp his blessing, Paulina tells Chanel they’re heading to Miami and TR shows up on Lani’s doorstep. Gabi overhears Jake asking Maggie for a written guarantee that he’ll be made CEO of DiMera. Maggie figured he’d want one, but making Gabi CEO of Titan is off the table. Jake assures her that’s no problem.
Is Gabi about to make the biggest mistake of her life by throwing in with the devil? Maybe, but she’s already got a lot of mistakes to outdo. Relive them all in a gallery of Camila Banus’ most memorable moments as Gabi.
