regrets to inform the loyal fans of Frances Reid, (Alice Horton) that the 95 year old actress has passed away February 3, 2010.

Frances is a legend in the soap world, portraying Alice Horton since November 8, 1965. Her first scene was in the very first episode, which revolved around troubled teen, Julie Olson, Alice and Tom’s granddaughter, then played by Charla Doherty, stealing a mink coat from Bartlett’s Department Store.

Her time on the show had been limited somewhat in her recent years due to her advanced years and the fact she suffered a minor stroke. She was last seen on the show Wednesday December 26, 2007 for Christmas in Salem. She didn’t have many lines, but was a big presence for the emotional hanging of the family Christmas bulbs. In a scene, Alice holds Tom’s (Horton, MacDonald Carey) photo to her and wishes him a Merry Christmas.
