Days of our Lives 20th Annual Celebrity Basketball Game!

Fan Blog Report: 2009 DOOL Basketball Game
Shari Gamson and Teri Gamson are big fans of DOOL. They’re also lucky enough to be able to meet their favorite soap stars from time to time at special fan events. Last year, the mother and daughter, along with Soaps.com’s Lori Wilson, took in the Days of our Lives 19th Annual Celebrity Basketball Game, which, like the past 18 years, was a great time. This year, Soaps.com did not send anybody to cover the event, however, our friends, Shari and Teri attended and were kind enough to give our readers a little taste of what happened during the game!
“The good news is that our family again was able to attend the annual DOOL Celebrity Basketball Game which was hosted by James Reynolds (Abe Carver), along with his lovely wife, Lissa and their handsome son, Jed. The bad news is that this will be the last time this event will occur. During the last 20 years, James and his family with the help of others have raised many thousands of dollars for South Pasadena High School and other charities. James and Lissa will be concentrating on other ventures including their roles as the Artistic Directors of the Fremont Centre Theater in South Pasadena.
This year, we again heard, Kyle Lowder, (ex-Brady) start off the evening with a beautiful rendition of the national anthem. The game had its ups and downs for each side and, as usual, someone played tricks with the scoreboard to keep the results close. Some of the players were: Bryan Datillo (Lucas), Alison Sweeney (Sami), Eric Martsolf (Brady), Kyle Lowder, (ex-Brady), Jay Kenneth Johnson, (Phillip), Kyle Brandt, (ex-Phillip), Shawn Christian (Dr. Daniel Jonas), Brandon Beemer (Shawn), Taylor Spreitler (Mia), and Dylan Patton (Will). Cheering them on from the stands were Nadia Bjorlin (Chloe), Arianne Zuker (Nicole) and Shelley Hennig (Stephanie). Of course, James and Jed also played.
We all won gifts from the raffle, plus Shari was fortunate to make the winning bid at the silent auction on a wonderful framed picture of four of the stars (Brandon Beemer, Martha Madison, Jay Kenneth Johnson and Nadia Bjorlin) in bed, looking very sexy. Arik, and Teri are fighting over custody (or at least visiting rights!) of the picture. We got a chance to spend time with the cast before and after the game, took lots of pictures and got our DOOL t-shirts autographed. Arik and Teri were able to spend some very special time with James Reynolds, who took time to talk to, encourage, and care about Arik who is a high functioning autistic adult who really appreciated his attention. Five year old, Terrell Ransom Jr., (Theo), not only took pictures with all of us, but also signed Arik's basketball. He is funny, bright, and a wonderful actor. Although he is not Autistic, he does a great job in his role as an Autistic child. He was carried around by the players who helped him to make a basket.
As usual, all of the team players and other cast members were friendly and gracious to all the fans and, although still sweaty and tired from playing the game, most stayed as long as needed to satisfy their fans. Shari's husband, Sherman, isn't a big fan but he took videos for us and enjoyed the game. We will all miss going to this very special event."
Special thanks to Shari Gamson and Teri Gamson for taking the time to give us a look at what appeared to have been a fantastic night. If you missed the Peggy McCay Annual Breakfast Event, read Teri and Shari's account on that, here.
