University Hospital will be paging a new doctor this spring, when Roy Vongtama makes his debut in Salem to play a recurring role as Dr. Richman.

Vongtama, a native of Buffalo New York, began his career not as an actor, but a doctor. He earned a medical degree at the University of Buffalo with residency at UCLA in Los Angeles and is board certified in radiation oncology. He also completed his undergraduate work at the University of Pennsylvania, where he received a degree in Biological Basis of Behavior, with an emphasis on depression.

The doctor turned actor worked on the award nominated movie “The Bucket List,” with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman, in addition to various others and has acted in television, in big name series such as “24,” “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” and already has one soap under his belt. Some of you may recognize him as Dr. Boyd, from “General Hospital: Night Shift.”
