Interview With Days of our Lives’ Lauren Koslow
Lauren: There's been so many of them. I have to say, generally, even though it was craziness, is when we all ended up in Italy [laughs]. I just have visions of when Lucas had that blonde wig and he was a surfer. It's usually the crazy scenes. I remember there was one when they broke their bed and I burst in on them. There's so much craziness it's hard to even pick out stuff. It's almost like starting off the triangle when Lucas shot Franco [Victor Alfieri] and that whole thing and we set up Sami for it. There's been so many dramatic stories involving the three that it kind of has a soft spot in my heart.
Soaps.com: Blue Streak Freaks wants to know who the craziest/most fun person is to work with on set?
Lauren: We keep talking about Bryan, because hands down it's Bryan Datillo. Without a doubt. He's incredibly funny. I think most fans know this from fan events because you don't see Lucas, you see Bryan. He's so funny. That's a very easy question to answer.
Soaps.com: Briar Rose and Blue Streak Freaks want to know if there are any embarrassing on set moments you can share.
Lauren: I don't have a lot of them, but I was thinking about this, early on when I first joined the show I finished what I thought was a day of work…I'm driving home and I get a phone call from the executive producer of the show, "Lauren? Where are you?" I'm like, "Well, I'm driving home." "You have more scenes to do." [laughs] So I had to drive back. I was horribly embarrassed. This was like my first year there. I was like, "Ugh. How did I do that?" The other one was when I was taking off my jacket one day and I can't remember if the scene was with Drake [Hogestyn, John] or Josh [ Taylor, Roman], but I was taking off a jacket and my blouse totally snap…I think I had a snap blouse and it totally opened up. Here I am taking off my jacket, and yeah, lovely.
Soaps.com: Te Kelley asked what would you like to see story-wise for Kate that you haven't had the chance to play yet?
Lauren: I really have had so many wonderful opportunities with Kate. I think the things I always wish for her because, I mean, I get to do wonderfully strong, devious things and that's great, but I think she's had a lot of unrequited love to a degree. I mean just love affairs that go so wrong. I mean, she's in a wonderful relationship with Stefano [Joseph Mascolo] right now, but I feel like there is a sadness with her with, really, the true love of her life. I'd like something like that to do to work out for her eventually, a story like that.
Soaps.com: Lauren enjoys EJ [James Scott] and Kate together and wants to know if there is anything coming up for them?
Lauren: I love EJ and Kate together. It's an interesting relationship to me. It's very cool. They were past lovers and now she's his stepmother. I think they have a very unique and wonderful relationship and they really appreciate each other. I love the whole political storyline and I hope that will, you know, I'd love for Kate to be involved, I don’t know how much Kate is involved, but it's interesting. I think their relationship is particularly unique because it's one that has evolved and transitioned. It's almost like he's her closest comrade to a degree, aside from Stefano, which is a whole different area. I like that relationship too.
Soaps.com: Meg wants to know about your most memorable fan encounters.
Lauren: All of them really. For me, it's always great spending time with fans who are enthusiastic about the show. I think for me overall the most positive experience is seeing the friendships that have flourished between fans. People who have met at fan events or online. As the years go by these are really long term friendships that have developed and for me that's the most rewarding thing about the interaction. If I have been a part of that at all by playing this character and creating something that people like to talk about, to me that is the best part of it.

“I think everyone needs a sidekick.”
Soaps.com recently had the opportunity to talk with “Days of our Lives'” Lauren Koslow. Find out what she had to say about her onscreen children and Kate going up against Madison, as well as how she answered a few fan questions.
Soaps.com: Kate has a new nemesis in Madison [Sarah Brown]. What do you think of the new addition to Salem?
Lauren: Well, you know, it’s exciting. It’s all part of the new stories we have with the reboot, so I’m looking forward to where it goes. We’re just in the beginning stages, so there are so many possibilities and I’m looking forward to that.
Soaps.com: Kate recently formulated a plan to get back at Madison [Sarah Brown]. Can you shed any light on what that will entail?
Lauren: Ummm…[laughs] I’m still finding out. I think it’s going to be one of those stories that develops slowly. I don’t even have all the details about it, but I have great hopes for this story. I like that it’s involving strong women in the business world. Right now I don’t have a lot of details, just enthusiasm really.
Soaps.com: Do you think Kate needs a sidekick or at least a few people working under her at Countess Wilhelmina?
Lauren: I love sidekicks. [laughter] I think everyone needs a sidekick. We’ll see how that works out. I’m hoping it does. We always have a lot of response when Kate’s assistant is there. You know, Chris [Ross Matthews], it’s always fun. And I think it always brings out another side to a character when there’s someone close enough that they can share confidences with. That’s why I always like when she’s with Chris because you’re seeing a different side of Kate. I hope that happens.
Soaps.com: There’s word that Lisa Rinna is returning as Billie. Can you comment on that?
Lauren: I’m not sure what’s happening with that, if it’s confirmed or not. I don’t know. I would look forward to the character of Billie coming back. It’s an interesting phenomenon because I’ve had three different daughters. Three different actresses who have played my daughter. Sometimes I think, “Oh, she has triplets.” We’ll have to see.
Soaps.com: Kate has Austin [Patrick Muldoon] back now. How are you enjoying that dynamic again?
Lauren: Kate had…all of her children left town. It was sad. I mean, it was nice because we could really concentrate on her and her life, but I like how it’s developed over the years where it’s less Kate interfering in her children’s lives and it’s more the wonderful relationships that occur when your children become adults. Now with Austin back in town, I think we’re going to be able to explore that. I had never worked with Patrick Muldoon before. He was on the show before me. It was wonderful getting to meet him. We haven’t had a lot of scenes together yet, but the ones we’ve had have been great fun to do. We did one yesterday as a matter of fact. It’s great. We’re learning about each other and the relationship and I’m looking forward to it.
Soaps.com: And if Billie comes back, we’d just need Lucas [Bryan Dattilo] to kind of complete…
Lauren: I know. I would love that. I would love that. Bryan Dattilo and I, it goes way back, so long. There’s been so much story between Kate and Lucas. I was clearing out my dressing room the other day and I have a lot of tape, because I tape the show as I do it, and I was looking at them…it was like ten years ago. I forget how much they went through together. It’s just amazing. I would love to see that happen. We’ll see.
Soaps.com: Speaking of Lucas, we had some fans write in with some questions for you. Natalie wants to know your favorite Kate/Lucas/Sami [Alison Sweeney] scene.
