The cast of characters in Salem is about to get smaller.

Soap Opera Digest is reporting that both Shelley Hennig (Stephanie) and Jay Kenneth Johnson (Philip) will be leaving the series behind. Hennig has been in the cast for four years since replacing Shayna Rose as the troublesome daughter of “Patch” (Stephen Nichols) and Kayla (Mary Beth Evans).

The actress told the magazine that, “It just feels right. …I have been preparing for this for awhile, so I have said my mental good-byes. I will miss the faces I see here every day, but everybody has been really encouraging and has embraced my decision…. I feel like I’m going out with a bang after last week’s air shows and I feel great about it creatively and I am thankful to the writers for giving me that. It’s been a lot of fun to play and I wouldn’t change anything.”

Johnson has been portraying Philip since 2007. Previous to that, he played the role from 1999 until 2002. No word yet on when Johnson’s final shoot date will be or what will drive his character out of town. Hennig’s final tape date will be February 2.
