You’re blowing our minds, Days of Our Lives: Beyond Salem. First, the soap spinoff resurrected a DiMera that we thought was not only really but most sincerely dead. (Get all the details here.) Then it had Eileen Davidson play Thomas masquerading as sister Kristen. (Our photo-filled recap has the whole story.) Next it brought out Josh Taylor… but not as Roman, the character he’s been playing since 1997, but as Chris Kositchek, the character that he played from 1977-87.

As Paul investigated dad John and Steve’s disappearance in Episode 2 with Shane’s son, Andrew, they viewed video footage that showed that kidnapper Harris Michaels had visited a local gym. So off they went. Once at the sweat shop, they — and we — discovered that it was run by Chris, who longtime viewers may recall owned The Body Connection gym in Salem in the ’80s. No mention was made of the fact that “Wow, Chris is a dead ringer for Roman.” But we did get a fun shout-out to Chris’ wife, Savannah Wilder, played back in the day by Shannon Tweed.

For those unfamiliar with Taylor’s original Days of Our Lives character, Chris was a stand-up guy whose only luck in love was the bad sort. He fell hard for Mary Anderson, only to have Amanda Peters come between them (with a pregnancy to boot). His romance with his secretary Leslie James went belly up when she was threatened by one of business partner Alex Marshall’s cronies.

Obviously, Chris wasn’t meant to be endgame for Kayla (played then by ’80s It girl Catherine Mary Stewart). And, at last back then, he couldn’t see a way to make a romance work with Savannah, who wanted to be a heroine… but was busy selling heroin.
