Often kids in daytime don’t keep the same look for long and this will be the case with Sydney DiMera on Days of Our Lives. Evelyn Stephenson will be taking over the role as EJ and Sami’s daughter in the show’s upcoming special Days of Our Lives: A Very Salem Christmas, as first reported by Soap Opera Digest.

Over the years, since the character debuted in 2009, there have been six sets of twins that have played the role with Berlyn and Brooklyn Baca the last in 2014. Sydney has had quite the life and the drama began at a very age. Due to a murder in Salem, and Sami being a possible target as the next victim, she was placed into the witness protection program while pregnant. It wasn’t all bad though, this gave her time to keep the news from EJ, considering the dangers surrounding being a child of the DiMera. But here’s where things got really messy…

Nicole was pregnant with EJ’s child as well but suffered a miscarriage. Though she met a girl named Mia, who agreed to allow her to adopt her baby, Nicole learned Sami was pregnant with EJ’s child too — as well as the fact that she was hiding out in a convent — and paid a doctor to switch the babies after their births.

It wasn’t until Sami’s baby, which had been Mia’s, died that Rafe realized something was up with Nicole and ran a DNA test, which proved Sami’s baby was in fact alive. Nicole was forced to turn Sydney over to EJ and Sami but later kidnapped her! While on the run, Sydney was then kidnapped from Nicole by Anna, who returned the baby to EJ. He kept Sydney’s return from Sami for months then acted as though he found their daughter in order to win Sami back — that is until Rafe learned the truth and told Sami. Though Sami dumped EJ, they reunited once again. However, when EJ was “killed” in 2014, Sami took her kids and moved to California.
