Days of Our LivesComings & Goings

April 4 “Days of our Lives” put out a casting call for Dr. Valerie Grant. “Days” is looking for experienced actors for this recurring role, which will begin taping in mid-to-late May, likely to have the character seen starting in the autumn. According to Soap Opera Digest, Grant is described as a “gorgeous African-American woman in her mid-50s. Courage and perseverance are two character traits that people admire her for the most. And while her experiences might have hardened other people and made them cynical, Valerie has grown into a wise and compassionate person – who still occasionally gets tripped up by her own mistakes.”

A little history on Dr. Valerie Grant for those who didn’t watch in the 1970s, actress Tina Andrews, AKA Dr. Grant, was paired in 1976 with Julie’s son, David Banning (Richard Guthrie), which made them soaps’ first interracial couple. The duo split up after David’s infidelity but word spread from an interview that Richard Guthrie (David Banning) gave to L.A. Times, stating that the reason behind-the-scenes of the break up was that NBC was receiving racist hate mail.
