Northrop's first big break came when he was asked to replace an actor in the young company's second production, Arnold Wesker's "The Kitchen." With good reviews coming from the production, Northrop found his first agent and an opportunity to appear in the company's next production, and his first role in TV. This would be the first of many TV roles for Northrop, not only in daytime television but prime time shows.

Northrop is married to actress Lynn Herring. The couple is active in their support of the Special Olympics program, and many wildlife and environmental causes. Wayne and Lynn have two sons, Hank and Grady Lee, and they reside in the hills outside of Los Angeles.
