Days of Our Lives Recast Is About to Hit Salem
Start your engines! Days of Our Lives is bringing back Stephanie Johnson, the racecar-driver daughter of Steve and Kayla.
However, when the character reappears on Thursday, Aug. 18, she won’t be played by Shelley Hennig, who held the role from 2007-11; she went on to star in Teen Wolf and is now working on a big-screen continuation of the series. In her place will be Abigail Klein, whose only prior daytime credit is a bit part as a nanny on The Young and the Restless more than a decade ago. She has a mile-long list of primetime credits, though. She’s appeared on everything from 90210 to Castle, from Code Black to GLOW.

“We’ll see her first in Beyond Salem,” headwriter Ron Carlivati tells Soaps.com. “One of the great things about [the spinoff] is that it gives us an opportunity to catch up with people who have left town, given that almost the entire story takes place in these other locations. This is an example of that.
“It will be interesting to find out where she is in her life,” he adds, “and what might bring her back to Salem.”
During Stephanie’s initial stint on Days of Our Lives’ frontburner, the heroine played the field and found herself caught up in romances with Jeremy and Nathan Horton, Max Brady and Philip Kiriakis. In perhaps her most dramatic storyline, she was sent reeling after being raped and sought to teach her attacker a lesson in a scheme that went so disastrously wrong, she wound up having to hide the scumbag’s dead body.

When Stephanie returns to Salem, she’ll have a lot of adjusting to do — for starters, she now has a new half brother in Tripp. Wonder if old flame Philip will step up to help ease her back into the fold…
