Gwen realizes she isn't having cramps like before and tells Will not to call the doctor yet. A second later, realizing there really is something wrong, she asks Will to call the doctor. Will returns and tells her the doctors will meet them at the hospital and they leave.

Barbara calls Alison and they meet at the diner. Barbara surprises Allie by thanking her for what she is doing for Will and Gwen. "Does this mean we have to be polite to each other now?" Alison asks. They exchange a few more barbs, neither really wants to be friendly with the other. Alison goes in to the kitchen and Barbara gets a call. She rushes from the diner and on the way out tells Allie that she has to meet the kids at the hospital. She asks Alison if she wants to come along and they leave together. Allie and Barbara are left to wait outside Gwen's hospital room. Bob comes out and tells them that none of the eggs implanted. The fertility specialist and Bob talk and he goes inside to tell Gwen the bad news: she will never be able to carry a child! "Even with supplemental hormones your body is not capable of sustaining a pregnancy," Bob says. Gwen is crushed. Will stands by her as Bob gives her instructions for her mental and physical health. He asks her to see her OB-GYN once a week for a while and she agrees to the visits. Bob leaves. In the hall, Barbara and he talk. She is worried that Gwen and Will will try again very quickly and when Bob doesn't say anything she realizes the whole truth: that Will and Gwen will never have biological children. Alison enters the hospital room to be with Gwen and Will tells her everything. Barbara comes back and asks Alison to leave. She leaves but Barbara stays. Barbara offers to get Gwen released right away and leaves. When they are alone, Gwen asks Will if he knows it wasn't her fault. Crying, she tells him that she wants to have his babies more than anything else in the world. They return home and Gwen asks Will to leave her alone for a little while. He returns to the front room where Barbara is waiting. She tells Will to be strong for Gwen and she will be strong for him. Hugging him, she reminds him that a family can still happen for them. Barbara leaves and Gwen calls for Will. She asks him to take her somewhere. They go to the cemetery and Gwen sits by Billy's grave, blaming herself. After a while, she lays the locket Will bought over the gravestone.

Emily is stunned at Holden's words. She sits with him and asks what is going on. Holden doesn't want to talk about it and just takes another drink. Dusty walks up and tells Holden that he doesn't know everything. Emily turns to him, stunning Dusty! She tries to make a quick exit so they guys can talk but Holden storms off before she can leave. Dusty asks her if they can talk and tells her about Luke's accident and why Lily is really in his room. "Holden can't see things for what they are," Dusty says. Emily isn't all that sympathetic and points out that most of his protecting/saving routines backfire on him. She does tell him that she believes he means well. She tells him to back off so that Lily and Holden can fix their own problems. Dusty changes subjects and apologizes to Emily for the mistakes he made with her. Dusty asks what happened with her while she was away. Emily tells him about her summer and a visit to Paris. He reaches out to her but Emily pulls away from him. She tells him to get over the past! Em swears to him that she is over the past and that she isn't the same sad woman that he knew. She asks for her job back and he agrees. Emily says a job is all she wants from him!

Lily has a nightmare that Holden delivered coffee to the room. She wakes and realizes that Holden saw her passed out on Dusty's bed! She finds Dusty's note and tries to call his new room but no one answers. She dresses and goes downstairs. Lisa stops her to ask about a meeting but Lily can't focus and asks about Holden. Lisa tells her that Holden and Dusty were in the bar together and Lily gets really worried. Lisa advises her to take a few aspirin, get herself together and go talk to Holden. Lily leaves.

Lily tracks down Holden at the farm and asks about Luke. When Holden says Luke is sleeping, she jumps in headfirst and tells him what happened in Dusty's room - that she got drunk and passed out. Holden tells her he knows she didn't sleep with Dusty but that it doesn't matter! Lily tries to explain but realizes they are traveling the same road they have been on for months now. "I don't think I register that much with you," Holden says, telling her that she keeps too many secrets from him for them to be a real couple. Lily is stunned but stands up for herself, telling Holden that she is tired of trying to be "good enough" for him. Angry, Holden brings up what he saw at the diner and asks Lily for one good reason that they should stay together. Lily brings up the kids, which only proves Holden's point - that they have the kids in common but nothing else. He says they should separate. Lily can't believe it. She asks Holden about the time she was in the coma, wondering if he has ever needed her since then. He won't even consider that. He says they need to separate and the kids need to stay with him since they are already settled in at the farm! Lily can't deal with Holden any longer and leaves the house. Outside, she sits on a bench and cries. Back inside, Holden carries baby Ethan, telling him that things will be fine. He admits to the baby that he already misses Lily!

In the hospital hall Alison runs smack into Chris! He offers to take her from the hospital but Alison tells him to spend time with his family. He insists and they leave together. Chris takes her to The Lakeview and they talk a little about the past. She asks what he is doing now. They walk into the bar and see Emily with Dusty. Em hugs Allie and tells her all is forgiven - and forgotten! Emily asks Alison to have dinner and Allie asks if Chris can join them. Emily says yes as Chris begins kissing her neck! "You asked what happened to me," she says to Dusty, "he did!" Emily tells them about meeting Chris at a French bistro. Dusty is unsettled. He orders a bottle of champagne and walks out; Chris wonders what Dusty is upset about. Alison says Dusty is probably just surprised. She decides to leave as a bellhop tells Chris and Emily that their luggage has finally arrived. Chris goes to check in and Alison asks Emily if they can get together tomorrow. Emily follows Chris.

Lily winds up at the diner, where Dusty is nursing a cup of coffee. He tells her about Emily's return - with Chris Hughes! She tells him about Holden and the separation. Dusty offers to talk to Holden but Lily tells him to keep his distance. "I'm not the person that my husband wants me to be and I'm really tired of trying to measure up," she says with tears in her eyes. Dusty holds her hand.
