All My Children Alum Mary Fickett Dead At 83. (Video Included.)
A sad goodbye.
Original “All My Children” cast member Mary Fickett died on September 8 in her home in Callao, Virginia. She took on the role of Ruth Brent Martin when the show began in 1970 and played her until 1996. She briefly returned in 2000 but once again decided to retire from the show. Fickett won the first Emmy given to a Daytime performer in 1973 for her work in the show’s controversial anti-Vietnam storyline.
In addition to her work on “All My Children,” Fickett also appeared on the stage (“Tea and Sympathy”) and in several other TV series (“The Edge of Night,” “The Nurses,” “Bonanza”). The actress is survived by her daughter, Bronwyn, son Kenyon, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Before All My Children ends its network run in preparation to migrate online, they will reportedly dedicate the September 21 episode to Mary.
Soaps.com sends condolences to Mary’s family and friends.
