Death on All My Children.

Updated September 8:

In the latest, and possibly final word on this issue, an ABC rep confirmed to Soaps In Depth that Vincent Irizarry is in fact out. “We are sorry to lose Vincent, but David’s death was storyline-dictated and the payoff of this story will reveal many unexpected twists and plot developments.”

Updated September 7:

Vincent Irizarry addressed his fans on his official site regarding the death of his character David Hayward and his status on AMC.

“I am so touched by the overwhelming support I have received over these past few days from the many fans of All My Children. Regarding my character’s sudden end and any previously reported news of negotiations between me and ABC, those statements were not authorized and premature. Unfortunately, there’s really not much more I can say at this time except how truly appreciative I am for all the comments on websites and message boards which have been written in support of my work and my character. There would be no doubt to me whatsoever, if I ever do return to AMC it will be in greater part because of this wonderful outpouring from all of you who love the show and David as much as I do.  I am forever grateful to all of you…”

Is David really dead? Is Vincent staying with the show? It seems to be up in the air, as this was posted on the actor’s official Facebook page:

“Hello everyone – We can now confirm and tell you that Vincent is still in negotiations, as the end of his contract is up shortly. The show has added this plot twist, but as I expressed below, please continue to tune in and make your thoughts, wishes, and voices known. Like many of you, I feel there is much more of David’s story that needs to unfold and we would love to continue watching Vincent’s amazing portrayal of the most complex character on the Daytime canvas!

Vincent passed on at how touched he has been by the overwhelming support and outpouring of messages that he has received over the past few days from all of you. Vincent writes, “I can’t say enough how appreciative I am of all the comments on websites and message boards that have been written in support of my work and my character. There would be no doubt to me whatsoever, if I do return to AMC, it will be in greater part because of this wonderful outpouring from all of you who love the show and David as much as I do. I am forever grateful to all of you…”

Soap Opera Weekly is reporting that David Hayward does in fact bite the dust at Caleb’s party, which suggests that he, along with his portrayer Vincent Irizarry, is leaving the show.

Sure David’s done a lot of evil things in his time, most recently tampering with Erica’s plane, setting her up for embezzlement and blackmailing Greenlee, but should David truly be killed off? There certainly are a slew of people who want him dead, as he has made many enemies along the way, but who finally takes the step and offs him for good?

There are many issues to be raised here, such as, is David truly dead? (It is a soap opera after all.) So feel free to share your thoughts on his death, Vincent’s impending departure and who will fill the villain role now with Soaps.com below.
