Biography

Born and raised in Lawrence, Mass, Raymond MacDonnell attended the Amherst College and decided to further his studies at the Royal Academy in London, England as a Fulbright scholar.

Thirty six years and still going, the immensely talented Raymond MacDonnell first joined the cast of All My Children in 1970 in the role of Dr. Joseph Martin when the show first aired. Dr. Joe remains one of Pine Valley's most upstanding citizens, along with his wife, Ruth. As chief of staff at Pine Valley Hospital, Dr. Joe's opinion is valued by all.

He appeared as the popular character, Philip Capice, on "The Edge of Night" for nearly eight years. Ray's other television credits include "Studio One" and "Armstrong Circle Theatre."

Ray starred on Broadway in "Mame," with both Angela Lansbury and Ann Miller, and in numerous off-Broadway productions. He enjoys his spare time spending it with his children, Kyle, Sarah and Daniel.
