Leonor Varela was born in Santiago de Chile, Chile. Later, her family fled to Costa Rica leaving behind the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet. She later resided in Germany, America and France, where she studied.
In the '90s she appears in the Chilean soap "Tic Tac" as well as other French and European productions. Her first Hollywood role was in 1998 in The Man in the Iron Mask opposite Leonardo DiCaprio. She played the title character in the ABC TV movie "Cleopatra," where she met her one-time fiancé Billy Zane.
She is fluent in English, Spanish, French and Italian and has actively participated in various ecological causes like Save the Whales Again.
