Restless Rant
Week of November 30 - December 4:

The past week of The Young and the Restless was what I like to think of as a building week. There are no more than a few gasp-worthy moments, it's not hilarious, nor overly exciting, but a solid show is delivered each day that furthers the storylines, and builds anticipation for what is to come. The downside of weeks such as this is that they tend to have dull parts. However, it struck me this week, as it often does with Y&R, that the fantastic acting often makes the difference between what might have been a boring scene, and one that is quite compelling!

Daniel's Drama: Yes, this has been dragged out, but the acting has made it worth watching anyway. I could watch Christian LeBlanc (Michael) read a pizza flyer and be riveted! Added bonuses such as the clash of the redheads (Phyllis and Deacon), and the return of Hothead Heather who always gets the blood boiling, have enhanced this storyline.

Daffy Daisy: Well, this chickie has turned out to be a real wingnut - sticking her hand in a candle flame to cause a distraction - oh my!

Sharon/Adam/Phyllis/Nick/Jack:
This whole thing is a hot mess! I can't stand to see Sharon in bed with that leech Adam - I have to actually look away. Then there is the plaque situation - I actually enjoyed the scenes at the cabin - Josh Morrow (Nick) had a good emotional scene at the tree, and I loved the creepy scene with Ashley staring at the plaque afterward too. However, what I don't like is that everything is feeding back into this tired old Sharon/Nick/Phyllis triangle. Even having Jack go running over to the tack house to tattle after seeing Sharon and Adam - is this high school?! I really would like to see Sharon and Nick get their baby back, but aside from that, I truly wish to see these characters involved in something completely different storyline-wise.

Mac Attack With Cheese: Looks like it's baby-time for Mac/Cane/Lily. I loved the scene with Michael and the 'paperwork' - talk about foreshadowing - does anyone else think that Lily will nearly die and Mac will bond with the baby - and maybe Cane too?! The hugging scene on the couch really was cheesy though. As for Mac dumping Billy after finding out he slept with someone else - the scene gets my award for 'Most Emotionless Break-Up Scene Ever in a Daytime Drama'.

Chancellor Industries IPO: I totally enjoyed Neil's reaction to Katherine bringing Kevin into the fold - so funny! He was right too - Gloria was onto Kevin like a bloodhound! Michael's plan to throw Glo and Jeff off the scent was great - but I bet it won't last long. As much as I enjoy Gloria and Jeffrey sometimes - I'm feeling like they're becoming cartoonish, and wish they could be used in some other capacity than 'buffoonish schemers'. What is particularly intriguing about the Chancellor IPO is how this new guy, Tucker McCall, wants in - and how JT is keeping things from Victoria in business. By the way, since when do billionaires send their Head of Security out to cut business deals on their behalf? Just asking…

Paul's Problem: Although they didn't touch on this a whole lot this week, I find it interesting that Paul is concerned about Emily and Jack dating - and Emily isn't. He made many good points, such as it being an ethical conflict of interest, and most importantly that if Pattycakes finds out…well, you know.

Soaps.com
Chance's Commendation: Now this is a head-scratcher - what was he commended for - being dumb enough to grab a hold of a knife-wielding maniac, thereby getting himself stabbed? I know, I know. Anyway, the Chance/Chloe cuteness is wearing thin with me now - they need to sex Chance up a bit - the Dudley Do-Good routine is a bit of a yawn. The guy is smokin' hot, and I'd like to see some more heat from this couple if they're going to hold my interest. After the commendation ceremony, back at the Chancellor Estate, was one of my fave scenes of the week - any gathering with Jill and Nina is a winner in my book. How about Nina chugging her champagne after Chance and Chloe declared how much they meant to one another? Awesome.

Billy Bottoms Out: After blowing his last chance with Mac, and having Chloe announce that she just doesn’t love him anymore, Billy is pretty much on his own. I am interested to see where Billy's journey will go from here - this character has been really well developed, and Billy Miller plays every layer of his personality to a tee.

Things I'm looking forward to on Y&R include getting to know Tucker McCall, who, if he loses those hideous over-sized sideburns, is sure to be a sexy power player in town, and finding out who the heck Ryder's mother is, and how Daisy is connected. As I've said before, it's difficult to really invest in a storyline like this until you know all the players and their motivations. After all, how much longer can we go on watching Ryder evade questions? I'm also hoping that there's a plan to bring Victor back and have him expose Adam's transgressions - which would be the epitome of satisfying - no one does vengeance like Victor Newman!

Hey girl

I agree with you on all points. I wonder if Tucker is Ashley's secret she about to pounce on. i guess the two of them will scheme to get Jabot.

He just might be a man for the jillinater to cool down her jets for a change.

I still ain't into nian

Thanks Candace for the rant. I couldn't agree more. I just opened up a topic of discussion about Tucker sending JT over to buy up stock from Katherine. I found that to be very weird myself.
I also think they need to add a little more steam to Chance. I loved the scene where he and Chloe were getting it on and she left. That was excellent and I would like to see more of them. We don't necessarily need to see them having sex to get some chemistry going. As a matter of fact I like the fact that these two haven't hit the sheets.
Thanks again for the rant. Awesome as always.

Phyllis-Nick-Sharon triangle needs to end.
Nick needs to be back with Sharon and get back their daughter.
It's nice to have an unknown character.

The scenes with Adam and Sharon make my skin crawl. I have to turn my head and put on "mute" button until its over. Im sort of sick of the Daniel going to jail s/l. Either keep him in or keep him out, just make a decision and be done with this s/l and on to something else. I do love watching Michael, he's a great.

As far as the Lily/Cane s/l, I think Mac will bond with this baby while pregnant and not be able to give the baby up. I think this will be a good s/l as long as they keep to realistic emotions.

All I can say for Sharon and Adam in bed is gross! Why do they have her looking so old and matronly now. She used to always be so well dressed and looking beautiful.

The scenes at the cabin were great! Love how little Faith was once again fussy with Ashley after being with one of her real parents. Ashley holding a blanket with what is supposed to be a baby inside needs to go. The baby playing Faith is to big to ever fit inside the blanket that Ashley was holding to her chest.

Love seeing Heather back although her character is quite annoying how she can never see the truth. Heather and Billy would be one hot couple.

The ceremony for Chance was utterly ridiculous. Totally agree that who knows what he was being honored for. Loved to see Chloe get jealous that Chance had invited Heather.

I have always been a Billy and Mac fan, but Mac is just boring. Horrible acting which is not helped by her consistent hairstyle in some weird tie knot pony tail and how they have her dressed. Spice up her look and that would help so much.

Did anyone else also think that Phyllis was in a blue robe all week. She came down in the morning with her hair in a pony tail and I could have sworn it was a robe, but then she wore it out for the rest of the week. Hilarious. Deacon and Phyllis have definite chemistry between them. They would be a hot, hot couple.

Nice to have a break from annoying Abby this week as well.

Looking forward to better weeks ahead!

Great rant as usual. I am hoping that Victor's return will be both powerful and intresting. We really need to get pass some of these tired story lines.

Hey everyone, I haven't been on in a long long time but I need to put my two cents worth in.
Candace as always I agree with your thoughts and have some of my own.
Gloria/Jeffery is done. I can't even stand it when they come on screen. I think they are both great actors, no issue there, can we give them some substance and stop the crap with kevin and mommy. Enough already.
Nick and Phyllis are boring now. I think Sharon is absolutely stupid but hey, loneliness does things to people and I get how she doesn't know the real Adam. Adam finally needs to pay for what he has done. Enough of that storyline.
Daniel and amber are great as well and they need to have a different storyline than this. end it already.
What is with Emily, sorry, not liking it at all. I would rather have seen Sabrina stay then have another actress come in and all this stupid storyline. I'm not liking it and am not warming up to her. Sorry.
I am looking forward to Tucker, should be interesting to have a new sheriff in town, watch out Victor, you may have some competition in the power department.

time to turn it up. I hope they can!

I actually enjoyed this week, especially Friday and that was definitely because of the great great acting. I thought I could care less about Daniels storyline, but the scenes today at the courthouse were riveting, between Micheal et all, and then Daniel under the gun with Heather in the courtroom, (I was on the edge of my seat to see if Heather broke him down) then Heather and Micheal afterward, not to mention Phyllis and Deacon. Micheal is so intense, and Heather really illustrated her own struggle deciding what to do when he threatened her. Love having Heather back too- she could spice things up with Chance/Chloe (which need some spicing up) or Billy. As for Mac, again I think she'd be better if they changed her hair/clothes a little. She doesn't always have to be so dowdy.
As for Sharon/Nick/Phyllis/Jack etc etc, as I've said before the triangle is sooooo tired I can't take it. That's why I almost don't mind her with Adam, but then the minute Nick ran over to check on her I almost groaned - not again. And Jack needs to stay out of it, I so want all these characters to go in some other direction. I really enjoyed Phyllis at the courthouse, coffee shop etc interacting with Amber, Daniel, she's always great with Micheal etc, instead of the old thing with Sharon. Love to see her energies elsewhere.
Maybe not a lot of action this week, but what I do appreciate about Y & R versus other soaps is that the stories take some time to develop so that we become a lot more invested in the characters and their actions/reactions to a given situation or to others. I think it is very important to these big stories down the line. Thanks for the rant again, love reading them and the comments. And thanks for no spoilers in the comments too.

Hey Candace,

Hope you don't go walking into people's bedrooms unannounced too Nick does.

Well, ITA with you in most aspects. However, while we need to sex chance up a little - I don't feel Chloe is the one for him. He's a goody too shoes and well she's as hot headed as Billy Boy. I'd like to see Chance/Heather hook up. Wow the sex appeal could be good.

There's no chemistry with all the current sexing happening on the show. It's all boring /tasteless stuff.

Well, I hope Sharon finds out that it was that LEECH Adam that sent Nick the email. I mean how hard can it be? But then again they've made her so obtuse on the show.

I for one can't wait for Sharon and Nick to have their baby back! Wip Adam with many many stripes -maybe he'll be sentenced to death - could be a good issue for TV.

I didn't see any previews for December so far.

Cheers
S
