    Mix-up. (CBS)
Genoa City for the Week of May 5 - 9:

It's May, it's sweeps time, so why isn't there more happening on "Y&R" to bring viewers to the edge of their seats? Thoughts:

    Get out of town.
If Dylan is Ian's son, which is questionable at this point, he certainly didn't inherit his smarts. How can Dylan not see that Ian is playing him and setting him up? It's a bit headache-inducing to see him act so clueless. Ian blew into town with some real potential, but weeks on end of him appearing in people's doorways and talking in riddles has definitely worn thin. The writers need to snap to it with this storyline. The Dylan/Nikki moment, where she said she loved him for the first time was a nice beat.

    Her goose is cooked.
Whether Avery resigns from the cooking show or the stalker gets her, it's all good as long as it brings an end to this trifling storyline.

    Whackadoo central.
It's really unfortunate to see a feisty character like Chloe going out in such a sad downward spiral. Her potential was basically squashed when she was paired romantically with her 'best buddy' Kevin and only got worse when she was cast as the 'negative Nancy' in her 'friendship' with Chelsea. Losing Delia could have been a catalyst for much change in her life, but instead her wagon was hitched to Kevin's again and he's been too busy sulking to notice how delusional she's become. It all seems to point to Chloe exiting on a rather unsettling note. Yet another longer-term character lost, and not made up for by the newer ones we still couldn't care less about or who bore us to tears.

    Prescription mix-up.
As unrealistic as it was, the prescription mix-up that revealed Victoria's pregnancy to Chelsea did add another layer and saved us from listening to Victoria talk to herself about it 24/7. That said, it's tough to get into this storyline when the Victoria and Billy dynamic has completely changed with the recast. As for Stitch, he still has to weather the storm of his secret past being revealed - let's hope that's coming very soon.

    He bailed.
It's a truly compelling dilemma that Jack is in with Phyllis and Kelly. Some are finding the transition to the new Kelly tough, however. Though not entirely absent, the chemistry is less intense, and this incarnation of Kelly seems to be much more of a swoon-y romantic heroine type than her edgier predecessor - almost like a completely different character. It was also curious that they wrote a scene with Lily giving a rather nervous Kelly advice about seducing Jack when the previous Kelly had no problem at all asserting her attraction to Billy or acting on it. Inconsistent.

    Hypnotic. (CBS)
    Flare-ups.
When is Victor ever going to realize that his actions cause Nikki stress and aggravate her MS? It's almost comical the way he goes after everyone else for stressing her out, when he's the worst offender.

    The big chill.
Colin and Jill are such a big plus in Genoa City right now. They do tension so well - sexual and otherwise - and their banter and facial expressions are always spot on and truly entertaining. That said, they also deserve some real substance to their storyline, so here's hoping it develops intensively.

    Renewed energy.
Are you one of the many cringing in horror over Neil's new enthusiasm for life thanks to sex with Hilary? This pairing is definitely not going over well. Someone needs to yell at Neil, and when Lily finds out what he's been up to she's bound to put him on blast. Not that it will stop our Neil, oh no, but it would be satisfying in the moment.

    Hypnotic.
Moving the storyline forward with Sharon undergoing hypnosis was a fine idea, but did we really need 3 or 4 scenes of debate between her, Nick, and the doctor about whether she should actually do it or not? There are way too many 'filler' scenes full of unnecessary dialogue on "Y&R" these days. Anyway, my guess is that Sharon will remember her clash with Phyllis in the stairwell and they'll all think that was her secret. Either that or Nick will interfere before she can remember anything. This reminded me of when Eden was hypnotized...

    Everything there is to know.
'The Cassie doppelganger is Mariah' storyline just feels rather strange at this point, but it's early days. Viewers will need to adjust to Camryn Grimes playing this young woman who is so different from Cassie, the character we strongly associate her with. Some are also leery of the history that may be created to explain her resemblance to Cassie. That said, if Mariah proves to be bad-ass enough to shut Abby up once and for all she may just win us over. Where do you stand? Vote in Soaps.com's Y&R Poll: Team Abby or Team Mariah?

Your comments this week are spot on.

Abby is such a hypocrite. Wanting Victoria to forgive Billy one day, and then freaking out over Mariah the next. Tyler hasn't even cheated on her technically yet (that we know of anyways). Guess it's easy to tell someone else what to do but it's not so nice when it's your own relationship issues, hey Abby?

I agree with everything you said Candace. Dylan is boring me to tears, Avery and her cooking show are nauseating as is Neil and Hilary. Jill's storyline needs to speed up some and so does Sharon's. It's hard to believe it's sweeps with the slow pace this week!
Not looking forward to Chloe's exit - love the actress and the character and not liking the direction the writers are taking her.
I've tried really hard to like Abby and Tyler but it's just not happening. So far, Mariah is the only interesting part of this relationship.
Victor just keeps annoying me day after day, week after week!

I'm so close to not watching anymore. I already fast forward thru summer, jack and the blonde dingy., Neil and the child he is dating. I am sick of victor getting away with his bullying and Nikki returning to him. We need a mature couple to anchor this mess. Colin and Jill are just plane nuts. Get on with the reveals for the Kathryn music box and Sharon's secret being exposed. Get new writers and how many more really good actors are going to leave the show. Like Adam , Billy and Clohe. The Cassie storyline is silly and what in the world is Leslie and her brother hiding. Let's get on to new story lines. How I miss Catherine chancellor

Posted by gracie45 at Friday, May 09 2014 12:21 PM

Oh how I miss Katherine Chancellor too. I like Jill and Colin together, but wouldn't Esther investigate all of the banging that was going on when Jill locked him in the attic? Where is Esther? She provides welcome comic relief for the show.

The Neil and Hillary thing is grossing me out. Neil is acting like such an old perv, its disgusting. Everyone is down on Lily for not being nice to Hillary but who can blame her after what she did to Lily and Cane. That's not something you get over in a hurry especially as Hillary never apologized to them personally. I'd be snarking every time I saw her too, especially if my father and brother were sniffing around the b*tch.

I really don't mind the cooking show but they need to bump up the action to make it more interesting. In spite of everything, I can't help liking Avery and Dylan. But Steve Burton isn't playing a head injured hit man on GH anymore so it would be nice if he put some expression on his face once in awhile.

I'm not liking Stitch's stalking of Vicky, nor the who's the baby daddy dilemma. I think she slept with them far enough apart so that she should have a pretty good idea. Didn't she just sleep with Stitch a couple days before she got tested? Would the egg even have implanted at that point?

Cady McLean should have been given a new role if they want her on Y&R. Kelly is unlikeable, and Cady is way too different from Cynthia Watros. And I'm so over her and Stitch arguing about his secret although that scene with Stitch and Billy in the gym was pretty funny.

Where is detective Chavez? Why is Chief of Police Paul busting into suites at the only club in town with his gun out and no backup? That was bizarre and unintentionally hilarious. The sad thing is that the writing makes no sense.

The blog and comments are so right on because we all see the obvious bad shape the show is in. I know that this was all written & shot months ago....
New Billy is not working at all--they could put a broom in the scene that talks for the same effect.
I am so sad that we won't get our real Phyllis back--gone to GH. Stafford was a powerhouse actress.
When they have a great actress they don't know what to do with them. So they go to another show & get a great story and get an Emmy nomination like Eileen Davidson.
Poor Summer, the wardrobe is so bleak--like her life.
The SECRET--how long has this gone on??? Please wind it up.
Am so bored with everyone else. Why in the world did Devon get the money? That needs an answer. I just fast forward Neil/Hillary & Jack/Kelly & Cane/Lilly. As I was typing I realized I was bored by every single couple on the show.
I loved the old glamour, the clothes, the sets. Notice Y&R did not get nominated for the sets? So frustrated by the waste of good talent. It is like a sports team that has traded all of their stars and kept the rookies.

Candace- I SO AGREE on the Neil/Hilary deal. It's just gross and I don't care how much "Hilary has changed" ( something Neil and Devon in particular like to hit Lily and the audience over the head with), there is something not right with Neil hooking up with the woman who went after his daughter and husband in order to get revenge on him. I actually look forward to Lily blasting Neil.

I also gotta say I'm Team Mariah for the sheer fact that I'm hoping she drives this incarnation of Abby away.

I am so done with the story lines of this soap. is any of them coming to an end. they seem to leave us hanging on for months. I am upset for the actors who are leaving this show. they are losing some good actors. please put an end to the Sharon drama. is anyone happy? I really don't like them bringing "Cassie" back as Mariah. duh. What ever happened to Daniel. this show has become so boring and humdrum. I have been a fan for 43 years and never has it ever been like this. So many things are left undone. the adults are always running in and out and no one watches their kids. "Oh. the nanny has them" I do not like the new Kelly. I was surprised to learn that Phyllis has gone to GH. When is she coming out of her coma where she has been since last year. please get that story line done with. There, I feel a bit better. Just please do something about these things.

You're right about Kelly being an entirely different character. Where is the Kelly who was a tormented mother mourning for her lost child, Sam.

Thanks for the rant and ICAM with your..."It's May, it's sweeps time, so why isn't there more happening on "Y&R" to bring viewers to the edge of their seats?" Not only are the SL moving at a snail's pace, some are actually moving backwards, like Sharon's. First she was struggling to keep her secrete, then she forgets it and now we have to sit through all this mess of her trying to remember it. So even if she does remember it, are we then going to have to sit through watching her hide it again. And wasn't it just last year that we were watching Victoria's brother, Adam going through the same WTD(Who's The Daddy) SL?
