    My way. (CBS)
Restless Rant for the week of January 6 - 10:

It's a mixed review for "Y&R" this week, with a couple of storylines benefiting from good tension and build-up, while others continued to range from boring to bad. Thoughts:

    Get it on the table.
The playing out of the hit-and-run storyline is chock full of building tension as Victor has made his move, Adam has had his fleeting moment of happiness usurped, Jack has been made legal guardian, Billy has discovered that Adam set up the foundation, and Kevin is back on Delia's case. Not to mention the secret Billy is keeping from Victoria that has made every scene with loose cannon Kelly absolutely fraught. The pacing has been good, and even the sidelines, such as Chloe's obsession with Connor, and Stitch and Victoria meeting in the park and sharing a natural chemistry while innocuously discussing wieners, is feeding into the growing potential for this story to explode.

    Cassie's birthday.
Nick and Sharon backed off their closeness from the holidays a bit this week to focus on remembering Cassie on her birthday. I waver between feeling it's realistic for Cassie's memory to be brought up so often, and feeling like it's overused and a bit tiresome. In any case, the flashback scene with Nick and a young Cassie was cute to see. Meanwhile, Sharon's conscience, aka imaginary Cassie, seems to be pressing her to confess more than ever. It's anyone's guess how or when Sharon's DNA secret will ultimately come out, but it's been teased so many times it will be a shock if Sharon actually confesses herself. More likely it will come out another way.

    The man is scum.
Dylan's confrontation with Ian Ward's ex-wife in Iowa was just okay. Given how private he normally is, it seemed strange for him to blurt out the sordid details of Nikki's pregnancy to someone he'd just met. In other news, Avery told Nikki that Dylan had called her his mother. Nikki was moved, but it might have been even more emotional had she heard him say it herself for the first time instead of getting it as second-hand information.

    Devon...or Jack? (CBS)
    Courtney's conundrum.
Apparently Courtney can't keep from blowing her cover if she continues to date Noah so she dumped him on the advice of Alex, aka Zach. In a related story, Summer and Courtney had one of those awful contrived arguments. Meh.

    Handcuffed.
Jill chloroformed and kidnapped! Just when the music box storyline was beginning to feel a little draggy there was this new development. Most assume it is Colin - the handcuffs being a big clue - also, it was obvious it was someone she knew.

    For sale.
That noise you heard this week was the loud groans of "Y&R" viewers when Devon bought the Athletic Club. Another mess to file under the heading, 'What are they thinking?' Devon has long been one of the dullest characters on the show, even after he unbelievably became the grandson of Katherine Chancellor, so watching him being pushed as the next big bucks player in Genoa City is a little cringe-y. Devon buying the Club and taking it over instantly is as dumb as Hilary showing up in the lobby in a bathrobe with the town's elite lunching nearby. If you didn't quail at Devon's plans to 'hip' the place up, you probably did when he put Lily and Cane on his payroll. Why on earth, after all the soul-searching they've been doing about their future and being free of the cancer-scare, would Cane and Lily choose to stick themselves in the thankless hospitality industry as Devon's employees? As for Devon and Hilary, their chemistry is the most promising element of this storyline, but will they actually go the route of having Devon and Jack competing for the same woman? Ack. What do you think of Devon buying the Athletic Club? Let Soaps.com know by voting in our Y&R Poll: Devon Buys The Club.

It's great to see someone write your exact thoughts! Devon is as boring as watching paint dry. It didn't ring true when he suddenly bought the Club. It was ridiculous when Hilary was in her bathrobe in the lobby. Who does that?! Then Lily and Cane accepting Devon's job offers... they change jobs more often than they change their underwear, and it makes no sense for the reasons you said. Blah, who cares. Great post.

OMG...I am SO over Victor and controlling ways. He's made it clear as day that he cares very little for Adam and wants nothing to do with him, yet he expects to be part of Connor's life with no objections from Adam or Chelsea whatsoever. For months he's been all up in their faces about how neither deserves to be parents, yet he himself was no Father Of The Year with his own children. He's a bully, simple as that. IMO, Adam made a big mistake telling Victor about Connor in the first place (just as Nick did filling him in about Summer). He might as well have put a gun in his father's hand to shoot him with. And once again, Victor wins...it's gotten REALLY old, REALLY fast!!

I do agree Devon buying the club was...eesh. I mean what happened to Gina, I thought she had bought into that club when Kevin burned her restaurant down. I also have to say Devon all of a sudden getting on Lily for her dislike of Hilary is really ridiculous but its obviously to set up their relationship.

I love that Victor always wins...its why he is called Victor. I never tire of his bullying and still can't believe that MM won't be there to take over the reins.
As opposed to soap opera drama, Devon buying the GCAC club and Lily and Cane taking jobs played out more like a Happy ending Hallmark movie.

Great blog Candace! The only thing interesting about Y&R anymore is the behind the scenes Michael Muhney scandal. Losing him and Billy Miller and Mrs. C IS TOO MUCH FOR ME.

Can't stand watching Chelsea/Chloe, Devon and Dullan. Too boring.

Started watching B&B to see Thorsten Kaye. That is one gorgeous sexy man who can also act. Wow!! Y&R should of grabbed him as a Tucker recast. Would love to see him return to take over Chancellor and be some real competition for Victor. He would be great with ED as Ashley. He makes the Y&R men look like kids. Nice to have something to look forward to.

Breaks my heart what has and is happening to this show. I started watching with my grandmother in the '70s. I hope it somehow survives and recovers. Not watching now, just following the boards.

    Have a good week everyone!

I cann believe that you have left Adam go, cannot stand so many other actors, Lily and Cane, where is that story going, boring,, Courtney, Fen even Summer. I have watched this show for over 30 years, never have I disliked so many new actors. Victor is sickening, more about Jack, Hillary Sharron. You need new writers.

Well when there is only 1 page of posts you know Y & R is losing viewship fast.
I agree with the post Candace. TOTALLY!!!

Devon is boring but could be used so much better. So many characters that could be great but don't have the storylines and then storylines that get done till your bored and don't care. Watching Adam and Chelsea always talking with the baby around and the baby talk OMG please get off the screen. Again, waste of air time. It's too much and I hate people that go from bad to good and forget how bad they were. I hate holier than thou characters.
Please Victor and Nikki and so overdone and so over period. No one, and I mean no one is beyond law and can get away with as much as Victor has. talk about holier than thou. WOW
I hope it wasn't Adam I hope we find out it was someone like Kelly.
Dylan is a boring character but the actor is great, OMG Y & R play with his talents and give him something good and not this goofy character. YIKES
