    Bad-tempered billionaire. (CBS)
Restless Rant for the week of November 18 - 22:

"Y&R" has definitely had its moments, but is still suffering from a lot of tedious scenes with unremarkable dialogue interspersed amongst the more compelling stuff. Perhaps because there are so many characters we really don't give a hoot about it just feels that way? Why does it sometimes feel predictable and plodding? Genoa City needs to be jolted back to life! Thoughts on this week:

Guilt is a kind of suffering.
Watching a storyline that drags on too long is also a kind of suffering, so here's hoping that the results of Victor's investigation will kick the hit-and-run saga into its next phase. Not that the acting hasn't been sublime, it has, but because it's so heavy, it needs to keep moving forward at a good clip so that viewers don't feel bogged down or become desensitized to what the characters are feeling. Adam and Billy going back and forth in the chat room was interesting and left me wondering if Kevin will discover that 'Anonymous' is Adam just as Victor sees Adam's name on the license plate list. It seems there will be a heap of evidence pointing at Adam, who in fact has already convicted himself, before it comes out that he actually wasn't the one who hit Delia. What still irks me is the whole issue of Adam believing he hit her when he knows he didn't feel any impact. Billy and Victoria's emotions continue to be all over the place, which has been so realistic, but Chloe also should be behaving erratically.

    Dollhouse drama.
Drivel... Clearly intended to make Nick look like an unreasonable Neanderthal compared to Dylan and to further heighten the trumped-up tension between them before Nikki's reveal. They should have written the Avery/Nick wedding so that Dylan showed up and stole her away from Nick right at the altar - then it would have made perfect sense for Nick to have had a huge issue with the guy.

    All-nighter.
The scene where Christine locked Paul's office door and he thought for a second they were going to get it on before she announced that they were actually going to sift through evidence, was cute. Jill and Lauren supporting each other is well worth watching, and it was awesome to see Glo pop in, even if it was only to say she was leaving again (sigh!), but this Baldwin/jail story is mostly fast-forward city. It's such a shame to feel that way about a story with Lauren and Michael. Fen and Michael need to get out of jail, Lauren needs to change her frickin' cellphone number, and they need to move on into an entirely new storyline.

    Ballerina.
Jill's belief that Katherine's final challenge to her was to prove her worth by getting Chancellor back from Victor may or may not be correct, but either way, I was intrigued by what she told Lauren she found out about the music box in Switzerland - that the name of the song is 'Ballerina'. Here's hoping she keeps pursuing the music box angle soon.

    The mole.
It's doubtful that Kyle will prove to be smarter than Victor Newman, which is probably why viewers were talking more about Kyle's haircut than his business moves by week's end. Let Soaps.com know what you think of Kyle's new style - Vote in our Y&R poll: What do you think of Kyle's new look?

    Abbott Thanksgiving! (CBS)
    Punching bag.
Courtney doesn't use drugs. Summer believes her. Courtney's still hiding something. Noah complains to Courtney about competing with Kyle. They plan dinner. Yawn.

    Golddigger.
Poor Roxy! Accused of being a golddigger by curmudgeonly billionaire Devon. You just had to laugh at the absurdity. Again, so transparent; breaking up Devon and Roxy to free him up to get it on with Hilary, who just happened to stop by Neil's apartment later. I wish they'd let Devon be a more relaxed kind of guy - he's such a self-righteous wet blanket sort that even a round of hot anger sex with the enemy isn't likely to make him appealing. If Devon does end up hooking up with Hil, that will surely not go over well with Mason, who is already armed with Devon's credit card and a big chip on his shoulder. Yike.

    Transform this place.
Cane bringing Lily into the unfinished space felt curiously similar to Dylan bringing Chelsea into his warehouse home-to-be for the first time. The writers must be keen on the fixer-upper concept. Anyway, Chelsea and Dylan definitely didn't have an unexpected dance sequence, nor any surprises such as the discovery of a homeless woman under an old sheet. Some are guessing that this will prompt Cane and Lily to open a homeless shelter. Thoughts?

    Thanksgiving plans.
Summer and Jack showing up at Phyllis' bedside together just might jolt her out of that coma, but somehow I think Abby will get her way and have her Abbott Thanksgiving dinner. Looking forward to it!

    Spilling the beans.
As much as this whole storyline with Dylan and the Newmans is a blatant means of attaching Dylan irrevocably to the canvas, complete with trumped-up animosity to raise the stakes at the big reveal, and thus incredibly irritating all the way around, one couldn't help but be delighted with Nikki blurting out her secret in
true train-wreck fashion after all those months of agonizing. It was as messy as it gets; so very soapy. She even managed to render Victor momentarily speechless!

When are you going to reveal that Dylan is not Nikki's son but that Stitch is her son?

Posted by MichaelT66 at Friday, November 22 2013 11:22 AM

I think Cane an Lily WILL open a homeless shelter and that is when we will see Drucilla again....homeless with amnesia.

I have quit watching this show and it makes me sad.like most I have watched from day 1 with my grandmother and mother but this show is no longer entertaining hard to watch. Someone needs to rethink and rewrite this stupid and miserable stuff they are writing! Looks like the actors would ask how stupid can they continue to make them look ! They the writers have thinking killing a child is a GOOD story line please get new writers! And now billy is being replaced pay and keep the actors replace writers! Sad day but Y&R is dying fast under this helm

Adam deserves some happiness and he and Chelsea made a good couple. Avery and Nick appeared to be happy until Sharon and Faith worked their evil spells. With the way Mick has turned into such an azz, I'm glad he isn't with Avery. I am so hoping Sharon gets caught on the DNA, Phyllis, and the Newman ranch. It's time for her evilness to some out and get her the payback she deserves, without all the men wanting to cover and feel sorry for her. Faith needs to get some disapline; instead of getting off with her bad behavior. Mason needs to be caught using that credit card he stole from Devon. Neil and Leslie should mind their own business and do some work. Leslie has no business meddling in Nikki or Avery's business. Let the H&R driver be caught and give Billy and Chloe some closure. The Courtney s/l, is dragging along, as well. What was the connection to Gus and Hilary's mom? The s/l with Lauren and Michael and always thinking Fen needs their protection from the big bad world is stupid. Kids like Fen get into trouble everyday and need to pay for their crimes. Parents like Michael and Lauren only make the matters worse and no lesson learned. The s/l on who killed Carmine needs to be found out and over with. We as fans still don't know where the knife went that Ricky had. We are left with a lot of unanswered questions like we are stupid and don't know or notice these things, when we do.

The story lines are so ridiculous and these characters they are pushing on us are so boring, uninteresting and annoying.
I could not care less about anything involving Devon. He is a snoozer. How dare he treat Roxie like that since she had been with him for years. I have never liked him.
Lily and Cane are the dullest couple on tv. I forward through them.
The guy playing Kyle now is so unappealing, it hurts my feelings to have to look at him. He must be related to someone on the show. At least that other guy looked the part. This guy looks like a thug.
I also don't like the guy playing Tyler. he can't act. I bet he was a model, and if not, think he should try cause he can't act.
I don't care anything about the mess the Baldwin's are in. Lauren did that to herself, someone needs to make her suffer.
I did like Lezley and Neil but seems like they have cut her down and took some of the fire from her character. Neil needs a bit of fire to keep him interesting.
Nick has become such a childish brat. I wish someone would punch him. They have made Sharon crazy and Noah is going to be like Victor. Oh, have I mentioned how I HATE Victor? Sick to death of his bulling. Sick to death!!!
    Nikki is ridiculous. Enough said.
They dropped the ball on Jill years ago. Katherine's will was the most unrealistic piece of writing in years. I hate when the writers have no sense of history when writing new shows.

I loved, loved, loved Jack and Phyllis, always have. Now she is in a coma.

I do love Billy and Victoria. That is the reason I still hang on at all. I also love Chelsea and Adam without being an Adam fan.
Sadly, there is much more wrong with Y&R lately than is right.

Thanks for the rant! I always enjoy reading your take on what is happening on Y&R.

The stories are all over the place. Most are dull and plodding AND the writing is doing nothing for any of the characters. Too many characters to write stories for and more are coming. What a sad state for Y&R!

I am really getting tired of The Adam Newman Show.

Posted by Soap Fan at Friday, November 22 2013 05:03 PM

The only thing I liked this week was the scene with Michael and Gloria everything else sucked and was stupid. I don't understand why Christine spends so much time at the Police Station when she is a D.A. . She should be in the courtroom reading cases and prosecuting folks not bothering her husband at work. Like some else pointed out the new Kyle is awful. They are dragging this Delia murder thing to long. Hurry up and bust Adam!!!

Posted by ShiningStar82 at Friday, November 22 2013 05:39 PM

Thrilled Kyle finally cut his hair and I do admit it does bring some more resemblance to Jack out but sadly his acting is still ridiculously wooden and just not good.

I am BEYOND bored by not only the whole Lauren/Michael/Fen but by this "What is Courtney hiding?" story. Courtney was merely a day player like six months ago and not a very entertaining one at that so what should we care what she's hiding?

IS IT CLEAR TO EVERYONE THAT THE WRITERS NEED TO BE FIRED!!!

Devon with Hilary, come on! He needs to get back with Roxy!

Give Adam a break and reveal it was not him and end this!

Drop this Michael and Fen in jail garbage and give us all a break! Y&R has always been realistic, this is not, its stupid! Why would Lauren not have changed her number by now

I thought Nikki and Jill were leaving town together, you writers can't even remember your own garbage! You have too much going on with too many people and ant remember it all and most of the people you have it going with are unimportant temporary people who should have been dropped by now and out of our hair and your bad memory causing you to forget important main characters like Gloria and our faithful maid, you idiots! It would make a lot more sense for Stitch to be the son than Dylan, it would make more sense for Nikki not to have a sudden lot son all these years. YOU GUYS SUCK SO BADLY!

Sharon is stacking up too much debt, get her to jail already

Nicks lines are so stupid and so out of character for him

Why is there no connection with Hilary and Gus and why is there no interest in this, why the letters Dumbies? Acting is not in Tylers forte, or Leslie's and you couldn't find anyone better for Neil? Put a belt on Faith's butt!

Drop Courtney, Leslie, Tyler, Hilary, Mason and Kyle. Who cares about Kyles haircut it doesn't help his acting and do you really think he can touch Victor, give us a break, drop yourselves!!!
