    The gift. (CBS)
Restless Rant for the week of October 21 - 25:

The fallout from Delia's death continued to bring solid drama and incredible acting, but the overall depressing vibe in Genoa City is weighing down "Y&R" a bit - so ready for some love in the afternoon, a naughty, torrid affair, some comic relief, and a break from the tedious scenes with dialogue/characters we care little about. Recent viewer enthusiasm has largely focused on (a) brilliant acting, (b) particularly compelling scenes or (c) chemistry between certain characters, not the storylines themselves, which is telling. Thoughts:

    We found our miracle.
Since the moment we found out that Delia would perish, we knew that it would lead to Connor receiving her corneas. Due to the outcome being so expected, most of the emotion as this played out came from watching the characters experience the difficult complicated feelings. Chelsea was outwardly upset, Adam was simply staggered by the implications only he understood, and Billy and Chloe seemed emotionally exhausted and resolute. It might have been an ideal time for Billy to recall that, despite their loathing for Adam on a daily basis, he did save Johnny's life way back when.

    Rollercoaster.
Dylan's been pretty droopy since his split with Chelsea but one thing that did work this week was his scenes with Sharon. They genuinely have chemistry, which many viewers commented on, but the push seems to be for Dylan and Avery to be the next big thing. While their history lends some interest to a Dylan/Avery pairing, it's hard to imagine them being very exciting together beyond the actual reunion. That said, Nikki involving Avery in her secret about Dylan, though a tad baffling, added a bit to the Avery/Dylan interaction in that it's a legit complication beyond Avery's waffling and the 'we're different people now' business, which was just tiresome. Who does Dylan have the most chemistry with in your opinion? Vote in Soaps.com's poll:

    Baldwin family fiasco.
Maybe just too much has happened to the Baldwins, or perhaps it's just a result of the bungled Carmine storyline, but watching Lauren, Michael, and Fen all bickering in an interrogation room just felt sad. Not that there weren't some 'moments' - as always the acting has been topnotch - but it's just 'enough'; too much stress for too long.

    Hello Winters.
Nice to see Neil and his family members again, and thankfully no sign of that Hilary person.

    Private hearing? (CBS)
    Stock options.
While it's always delicious when Victor and Adam face-off, it was rather unrealistic that Victor would show up on Adam's doorstep with a gift for Connor, given that Adam had already been very clear about Victor not being a part of his son's life. In the end it seemed to be about placing Victor there to notice that Adam had been burning something in the fireplace. Bet that will factor in down the line...

    Aftermath.
Chloe and Kevin opening the box containing Delia's things really was emotional - well done. Not so well done was poor Esther being written as refusing to come out of her room - awful. She spent more time with Delia than almost anyone and Chloe would need her mother right now - she should be a part of everything happening in this storyline. What about an Esther and Jill scene, for example, where they share their grief about losing their beloved Delia right after Katherine? That said, the Jill and Billy scene where she wordlessly pulled him into an embrace had me sobbing - so powerful - and having Jill talk to Chloe about Billy, and come together with Jack to help him, has been amazing. Devon stepping up to offer a million dollars of Katherine's money was all good, but here's hoping they're not going to go on a bender with the idea of Katherine working through Devon. The scenes at the police station with Alex, Billy, Chloe, and Kevin were also excellent. Billy's anger was tangible; just awesome. Let's hope after this case is over Alex will get to do something other than give Kevin life advice. So many want to see so much more of him.

    Swizzle sticks.
Nick's honest words to Billy made for some very compelling scenes. While Nick seemed numb when he first heard the news from Victoria (who has been so appropriately disheveled, emotional, and uncertain), he came through with the real talk.

    Abbott family meeting.
Love this! It was past time for this gathering, and Ashley's arrival was bliss at the end of Friday's episode. Summer's presence reminded viewers that Sharon getting back on track should mean putting an end to her huge deception sooner rather than later.

    Best and worst.
While the frank conversation between Sharon and Adam in the park was a nice step forward, it was a bit weird for her to apologize, given that it was Adam who inexplicably began treating her coldly.

Great comments! I too would like to see more of the Alex Chavez character as the actor is very talented. The storyline about Nicki hiring Avery is extremely farfetched considering how rude she was to her after Nick's wedding was cancelled.....so why would she suddenly put all her trust in her as a lawyer to handle what supposedly is so traumatic and personal she hasn't even told her husband Victor? ! lol

This week's rant was great and on point!

Still not happy at ALL. with the writers killing off Delia and leaving Esther out of the most important time in Chloe's life. It doesn't make sense.
I was actually chuckling at the fact that this Delia storyline has just taken over the whole show, i almost forgot their was another 'homicide' out there named 'Carmine.' Then it was like 'Who cares?' LOL

It was also way over due not to have seen more of Billy's family around him. All you ever see are Nemans! Sick of the power trips without any human decency in the mix.

Finally, so GLAD not to see Hillary and Mason on screen. Sorry to the actors but the fact that Neil doesn't press charges on Hillary and Mason because of a guilt he feels and knows he couldn't prevent.....is so DUMB!

As much as I despise Sharon, I will say she and Dylan could work together, it would finally get Sharon off the Nick and Adam gravy train but yet keep her connected to the Newman family due to Dylan being Nikki's son. Omg and just think of what Nikki would have to say...

I also have to totally agree that the acting has remained phenomenal through the Delia storyline. Jill just broke my heart this week when she was talking to Chloe and Billy. I also agree that Esther's absence is ridiculous right now, she needs to be at the forefront.

Most of the stories (outside Delia's death) are missing important characters and/or appear a bit far-fetched b/c the writers don't seem to be familiar w/ the characters, their relationships to each other or the history of the show. Now that we see some slow changes, I think they must be actually reading their mail and/or reading the boards. I notice families are beginning to appear and or gather again. Perhaps some real friendships & decent relationships will happen soon also. And Perhaps that is a good thing; b/c stories tend to almost write themselves when there is good character interaction on the show.

I, too, am glad that Hilary & Mason are MIA. Hope Cane & Lily press charges against this woman. Mason also deserves some punishment for aiding & abetting Hilary. She went too far to destroy them as a family for them to say "That's OKm Hilary! We understand how you feel about losing your mother. We forgive you." Neil ought to lose his credibility w/ Lily if he does that. Lily lost her mother in a scuffle w/ Phyllis; but she did not try to destroy the woman or to make her life miserable. I don't understand the reasons for it or the extreme revenge Hilary exacted here.

    Thanks for the rant!

I don't understand Adam saying that he did such a horrible thing because of Delia's accident. They keep saying he left her lying in the middle of the road when she was at the side of the road behind a bush. He avoided hitting the dog & he didn't even see her.Her hat was lying in the middle of the road & Chloe said the scarf was attached to the hat, so I'm still hoping that is how it became attached to his car.

One thing I can say for Nick is that he is always kind & understanding & not quick to judge anyone, which I guess makes him one of the nicest guys in GC. Sharon has become the worst busybody, always prying into everyones business. She seems to think of herself as full of wisdom. I was glad not to see Hillary & Mason too & glad to see all of the Abbott family together including Summer.

AND I'm still not over Katherine leaving all her money to Devon. Didn't make sense & still dosen't!

Posted by MsSuperSuds at Friday, October 25 2013 05:48 PM

I would much rather see Katherine Chancellor leave 2.4 Billion dollars to Devon Hamilton than to bequeath Chancellor Industries to Victor Newman. That act alone wipes out the Chancellor legacy on Y&R altogether--unless Devon does something w/ his inherited 2.4 billions in her name. Besides when you are talking about Kay's wealth, 2 billion is a drop in the bucket. Who knows how much money and or assets the other heirs received. But the writers must do something now to preserve Chancellor Industries from being overtaken by TGVN.

Good rant. I too think it sucks how absent Esther has been aside from that brief scene with Chloe. She should be supporting her daughter.

I also agree about Alex needing something to do besides advise & support Kevin. Their friendship is cool but Alex is hot so stop wasting him. I still want Alex and Chloe but clearly we're suppose to love Chlovin. Never happening.

I agree great acting, not happy about them killing off dd, but enough already, move on with something else. Please let it be that Sharon gets caught, this stupid story line with Nick is driving me crazy, can't stand her and she is getting way to much exposure. Either bring the old Phyllis back or find someone to replace her so we can get rid of Sharon forever. The new writers are really not so new or great, how much more can Adam do and never get caught and time for Victor or run off somewhere again or die. What is up with Nicki she looked so good when she came back from her hiatus but she looks like crap. Get a haircut or at least do something with her hair and makeup.
