    Who me? (CBS)
Restless Rant week of August 19 - 23:

"Y&R" tackled the death of Katherine Chancellor this week, and a few other storylines continued to plod forward simultaneously. Thoughts:

    Incredibly focused.
The comic relief of Sharon making crazy eyes and facial expressions unseen by the other characters, is probably the most compelling part of the ongoing storyline with her and Nick. Though nothing about the Avery character evokes much feeling, my eyebrows raised on her behalf when Faith ripped up her pictures. Sure it was dippy that Avery had spent hours cutting them out in the first place, but what a holy terror Faith has become! She's definitely got great potential to be a spoiled manipulating adult character down the road. That brings us to Cassie. It's hard to buy Cassie as a sneaky schemer, even as a figment of Sharon's imagination. Somehow it doesn't sit right. As for Sherlock Noah, he's putting the pieces together, s-l-o-w-l-y. It's time for Summer to mention that Creamy Nude lipstick to him...

    Our hero.
The Chelsea/Dylan scenes are like fingernails on a chalkboard. Chelsea goes on about Dylan being more perfect than anyone who ever lived, and 'doing right by her son' even though she's based his life and well-being on a huge lie/con that is about to blow up in her face, and Dylan goes on (to that horrible sappy music) about being their protector while performing 'super dad' duties. Too much. Meanwhile, there's Adam dropping by and holding his own son, yet not being allowed to know he's his son due to his heinous crime of being too attached to the family business. Chelsea getting what's coming to her can't happen soon enough.

    You can't erase me.
The Carmine/Lauren/Michael storyline was excellent at its peak, but is beginning to deteriorate into silliness, what with Carmine becoming a one-note cheesy stalker and Michael carelessly hollering death threats in the middle of the police station on a regular basis.

    This was good. (CBS)
    It's my party.
So Tyler, Devon, Noah, Abby, and Lily will all be working together at Jabot now? Abby's teasing about technically being Tyler's boss might have been funny, but could be foreshadowing of tension to come. I hope we see reaction from Victor about Noah, Abby, and Summer, if she returns, all working for Jack.

    Skydiving without a parachute.
Loved Billy's line about Victor, who is being as vindictive as ever, but he has to be sick to the teeth of Victoria's drama with her father - it's like she's surprised and disappointed all over again each time Victor proves to be a meddling, overbearing threat to her marriage. This isn't new!

    Everything's going as planned.
A few steps forward in the Neil mystery. He found new information about Anne to bring to the investigation, but for some reason there were no cops or detectives available and he had to tell Kevin. Huh? Anyway, the big new reveal was that Mason is in on this with Hilary. While the surprise twist was great, it would have been so much more intense if she'd had an unexpected connection to a Genoa City core character or past character. Sigh.

    Bucket list.
Of course the big story this week was the announcement that Katherine Chancellor had passed away. Fan reaction to the postcards/bucket list storyline ranged from those who found it disrespectful and tacky, to those who thought it seemed a perfect send-off. I was okay with it (aside from Billy not getting a postcard), but found the reactions of some Genoa City residents to the news of her death to be underwhelming. Jill, Nikki, and Esther were/are dazed and devastated - very appropriate - yet somehow I expected more tears and emotion from others in Genoa City who had known and loved Katherine for so long. Everyone's first instinct should have been to gather, perhaps at the Club or the Chancellor estate, with rivalries briefly set aside as they downed drinks, remembered Katherine, and struggled to absorb the enormity of the loss. That would have been realistic for someone of Katherine's stature and was missing for me. The letters to Nikki and Jill are intriguing, and a nice twist moving forward. What do you think of the handling of Katherine's death thus far? Vote:

This show should seriously be called the Dumb and the Dumbest.

Adam does not wear a wire for all these conversations he has with Melanie. Private investigator, anyone? He could at least secretly turn his phone on while she admits he didn’t rape her.

Nick is determined to go ahead with his marriage despite the fact that his youngest is melting down. What does he expect will happen once she moves into the house? Will Faith just drink the pretty Kool Aid and turn into an angel?

Dylan continues to buy all Chelsea’s lies, lies, lies. The full-tern baby is months early and looks nothing like you, honey. Buy a vowel.

Dylan and Chelsea run to the hospital because the baby coughs. Really?

Jill is looking for a financial fortune when what Katherine left her is much more spiritual and heartfelt. Did Jill actually know her?

Adam could steal a pacifier or something and run a DNA test. It wouldn’t have been that hard to do while he was holding little Victor Newman III. Hey, if he can arrange for Ashley to miscarry and then make her believe she is still pregnant, and if he can break crazy Patty out of jail and escape town, and if he can switch Faith Newman with a dead baby and not get caught, he can capture a DNA sample. Dull, dull, dull.

Surprise with Hilary but not reasonable connection with Mason. The whole Storyline has been boring and drug out. I foff thru it and read the recaps. Jack is surely losing money with all the employees who do nothing. Murphy showed no sadness in his delivery of the news. It was like it had happened months before and he had accepted it did not seem like he was a grieving husband. Nikki's reaction seemed forced and unnatural. All Jill does anymore is rant and rave the "Woe is me" dialogue. the character is overactive to a ridiculous point. Enough Jill! No respect for Victor anymore. Do they not know what to do with Billy and Victoria? Seems to be. Let Neil open a business ofhis own and hire the family. Tyler can accept a job in another city. Leslie is too young for Neil. Ditch the Gus/Rose/blogger storyline. Repetitive and boring. No reveal will entice fans. It is dead in the water. Katherine's death will be drug out till Sept 4 and 5. We will tire of rather than enjoy a great tribute to the great Jeannie Cooper. Faith is a product of her unstable mother and one ghost.John, is enough for one soap opera. Avery is trying but she is up against a brick wall with Sharon and Faith. I feel for her. Chelsea needs to come clean with Dylan and Adam. He can help raise Conner and they can have more kids if they really love each other and get thru the lies. I have hated the whole Lauren/Michael/Fen/Carmine storyline. Can't feel for Lauren being a victim for the 10th time. The effect is gone. Michael had lost his focus. Kevin is redeemed now and consults on high profile police cases. Go figure. Better than stealing from MRS CHANCELLOR. Both he and Chloe should have had remore over those past deeds. One more gripe: Cane and Lily have been reduced to blubbering idiots. Same old conversations every week. Enough said.

Victoria always seems shocked Victor dislikes Billy. But can you really blame him? Every time Billy messes up Victoria runs to Daddy and cries and whines. So why wouldn't he see Billy as the bad guy when more often than not he hears about all the bad Billy does?

The Chelsea con has gotten old. Yes Dylan is dumber than a box of rocks but this storyline needs to end.

And even though Faith is clearly showing some major distress and is lashing out Nick is determined to marry Avery.

The thing of it is for all us longtime "Duchess" fans...no send off was ever going to be quite good enough, Katherine is one character I think the great majority of Y&R fans are all very protective of. I think they did the best they could've due to the untimely passing of Jeanne Cooper. I do think Murphy should've had a sadder reaction and I am surprised Esther wasn't as vocal in her grief as Nikki and Jill were though. I just hope they do her memorial justice.

Could it be that Dylan knows he's not the baby's father? Maybe Iraq made him sterile. He's so flinchy around Adam, and he says secretly (to us) that he's a bad man. There's an old saying, something like "you can't BS a BSer". And naming the baby CONner? A whole lot of it going in this family.

It really bothered me they left Billy out of the Katherine s/l, it is something I just can't get past.

It seems I am not so harsh with Chelsea as others are. I think that she was a victim in the cons done by her mother. She listened to all the bad advice from Chloe & is truly afraid that Adam will take the baby away from her if he knows it's his, not that I think what she is doing is OK. Faith is learning to be a little manipulator from her mother (she is a great little actress by the way) & will probably cause a breakup between Nick & Avery. If the marriage takes place Avery will never be free of Sharon's interference just as Phyliis never was.

Adam holding the baby was a touching scene. As someone else said he is no dummy & should be getting a DNA test. Why would he wait if he suspects it is his. Murphy seemed not to be grieving. Yes he was no doubt prepared for Katherine's death but still should have showed some sense of loss. It's great to see a lot of Jill, anger is one of the stages of grief, which she displayed quite well. I thought it odd that Niki went to see Jack for comfort.

Why would Brock not be amongst the family when Murphyreturned; shy would Murphy not show sadness, grief, shy would Billy not be amongst those called to the house; why would Paul not be amongst those called to the house, you writers need to do some homework. This storyline with Neil is getting more ridiculous by the minute, more far fetched, more insane, more absurd; this paternity thing with Sharon has gone too far and needs to come to a close, Sharon has GOT to go to jail to stay, nuts or not, she burned down the house, it is time for her to pay, she is turning her little girl into a little devil, it is time to pay up. The lines you give the cast for these stupid storylines is beneath their abilities as actors; end this garbage with Chelsea's lie, its done, Dylan is not that stupid and neither is Adam, Adam should have taken DNA when he was alone with the baby, they have already rushed to the hospital with the baby, now what are you going to do have him suddenly ill with something, and this thing with Jill and Nikki, this is so lame, the maid needs more and you just need to turn your pens in and find a job you can do, this isn't it.
