    What to do? (CBS)
    Restless Rant
    Week of July 22 - 26:

"Y&R" continues to motor along with some fantastic acting (always can be counted upon) and some good story angles, however, other stories are dragging, some characters seem like ghosts of their former selves, and the passion and comedy have been dialed down too low. There's a sense of waiting for, or hoping that, things will kick up a couple of notches or snap back into place. Thoughts:

    Sexual harassment.
While it will be interesting to see what Adam makes of Melanie's complaint against him, it seemed a little odd for her to agree to help Billy (a virtual stranger) and risk ruining her employment future because he needed a 'big gesture'. Also, Victoria 'getting Newman back' won't erase Billy's gambling troubles, and it was a cause of tension between them before. How long until Victor's role in Billy's gambling is exposed? Or will it be?

    Penthouse pow-wow.
Summer and Kyle's talk about how they're still hot for each other even though they now believe they are siblings was questionable. It's one thing to not be able to just shut off the attraction, but it's another to say you're worried about giving in to it. Gah!

    Gala fundraiser.
Most boring gala ever aside from Adam spouting off about Nick (loved the cannibal line), and the drama in the stairwell outside.

    Call the authorities.
It was a bit of a letdown that that there wasn't a Phyllis/Sharon catfight right there in the cemetery when Phyllis realized what her nemesis had done. That said, Phyllis took the time to call out Sharon on who she had hurt with her 'trick' before storming off. Later, she rose to the occasion in their second confrontation, by calling Sharon a demented b****. Sharon's half-determined/half-embarrassed and worried demeanor has been a perfect way to play this as she went into damage control mode. It was a high point in this storyline to be reminded why this rivalry is one of the best in "Y&R's" history. Later, it was surprising in a good way that Phyllis actually woke up after surgery instead of just being left unconscious. Sharon was in the hospital on Friday's episode, so it remains to be seen if her presence will somehow lead to Phyllis taking a turn for the worst. The twists of Sharon talking to Cassie (who is giving straight-up advice), and Sharon's lost lipstick, are working nicely in this plot as well.

    Hospital drama.
Excellent scenes in the hospital with Adam and Billy separately showing up to support Jack, and Nick and Jack bickering. We also had the expected hospital bedside heartfelt speeches to Phyllis. Many weren't feeling Avery's loyal and loving sister routine given everything that she's done, but there was no denying Summer's talk to her mom was heartfelt; viewers felt her vulnerability. Jack's was an emotional outpouring of feelings (he makes viewers 'feel' like no other), but his love for Phyllis is uncomfortable because she has always put him second-best. Deep down he knows it too, which is why he could misinterpret her saying Nick's name after his proposal.

    Neil's daughter? (CBS)
    Blackmail or bust.
Although Chloe's 'sirens and red lights' reaction to Victoria's 'request' regarding Billy was funny, many viewers are way over Chelsea's self-inflicted drama. Certainly Adam has this figured out by now (or should have), and honestly, Dylan should have asked for a paternity test based solely on Adam's insistence that he could be the baby's father.

    The Winters.
Hilary is clearly showing some stalker-y tendencies, and is likely the person who planted the tidbit in GC Buzz about her and Cane boarding the plane together. Hence she's probably the blogger, and is quite possibly Rose's daughter with Neil. (Update: if Hilary is too old to be Neil's daughter with Rose, she may be Rose and Gus' daughter. But then why is she out to get Neil? Hmm.) Now explain to us how in the world Neil ended up dating Leslie, whose father also had a relationship with Rose. Huge coincidence?

    Best of the week.
Michael, Paul, Kevin, and Jill's interactions at the police station. I could watch these characters take turns reading out of the phonebook.

    The annoying files.
    1) Jill being a supporting character.
    2) Lauren being held captive for the billionth time. What are the odds?
    3) Lauren trying to dupe Carmine at the cabin. Just bad.
    4) Fen, who's been getting high for about a week, suddenly adopting the lingo and personality of stoned surfer dude, Jeff Spicoli, in "Fast Times At Ridgemont High." Please.

What do you think will happen next with Phyllis? Vote!

I thought it was weird Sharon and Phyllis didn't go at it right there at the cemetery. *Phyllis hits head on headstone* But then again, what's a gala or car ride in GC without some drama? Plus, who would find her in the cemetery? It was 2007 when Drucilla bit it. They even said the year. It's really going to be bad if they try to say Neil and Rose had a baby and she's a full grown Anne or Hilary. Such are soaps. Love your rants!

Right! Well maybe Hilary is Rose's daughter with GUS. But then why is she out to get Neil and family? Gah!

If the fight with Sharon turns out to be Michelle Stafford's last real scenes as Phyllis, I'm glad as they have been fantastic in their battle for years now. I just posted elsewhere about the fact that Adam just has to know the truth and is not acting on it for fear that Chelsea will stress and or lose the baby. After all, Adam is always the smartest guy in the room. I have to question if Dillon knows too... I am loving the show right now for the most part.

I would be thrilled to bits if Phyllis exposed Sharon and then left town to recover with Daniel, however I think it's more likely that she will lapse back into a coma and Daniel will come to take care to some special facility that does something with brain injuries.
And I totally agree about Lauren's act with Carmine at the cabin. For crying out loud, this woman has been held hostage by SHEILA FREAKIN CARTER more than once...did Lauren learn nothing?
I will say though I don't see Hilary being Neil's kid with Rose only because the show keeps making a point of showing us the general date that Neil met Rose which was 2007 so I would be stunned to see them go that route.

History has a way of repeating itself, or Y&R does anyway. When Dru fell off the cliff Sharon & Phyliss were fighting over a phone. It's rather odd to me to see Sharon confiding in a now grown-up Cassie. I don't care for the Billy & Melanie conspiracy, just can't see the sense of it. Billy never wanted Vick to be involved in Newman Ent. but now enlists Melanie's help to get her there??? I think he's headed for more trouble. It always irks me when a sick person lying in bed is trying to speak & the other person just keeps yammering away & doesn't listen. Oh well.

Posted by Insomniac at Friday, July 26 2013 04:04 PM

I still like Adam's & Victor's inter-action.I'm glad Victor has found his match.Chloe speaking up to Adam for Chelsea irked me too. Maybe I was just in an irky mood this week. Hillary is definately after Cane so the shoe is on the other foot for Lilly now. Let's see how she handles it. Can't wait to see what Sharon does next!

Posted by Insomniac at Friday, July 26 2013 04:07 PM

Forgot to mention Michael busting in on Carmine's little love nest. He's no match for Carmine physically so I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't end up tied to the bed next to Lauren.

Billy's idea for Melanie's complaint is one of the stupidest ideas yet for these new writers and how is his reasoning to solve his problem with Victoria, dumb writing.

Summer and Kyle's conversation was sick and sickening, you people are depraved writers, this is not that type of soap. How disgusting! They can't get back to that type of thinking until Phyllis spills the beans and busts Sharon's butt! So get with it already, this paternity thing has gone on long enough!

Lauren kidnapped again! Are you not familiar with the history of this soap, get a clue guys! YOU SUCK!

This thing with Neil and the blogger is so stupid, idiotic and unrealistic it isn't even funny, it is infuriating that your writing is so bad! You cannot leave anyone to have morals and decency, is it against your writing skills, you are going after Hilary now, that's what you get for going so far out with this storyline, it is sickening!

Kevin assisting Mike to escape was so bad it was funny - now will he at least get to kick Carmine's butt before Paul shows up. or let Paul do it for his mouthing off to him that time and then get the bum off the show!

Jill's interaction at the police station was unrealistic! Fen hasn't found a hairdresser yet but he found drugs, and the police chief didn't notice he was high...Send Fen to rehab and get him off the show.

At least we got to see Nikki and Victor, he speech was hysterical, for a minute I thought she had gotten a drink and was drunk, that was sad. Do you still not respect who Victor is and know that Adam can't touch him...spend the weekend watching the old shows, catch up and improve your writing! Then come back and send Sharon and Carmine to jail! While you are there...put yourselves in as well, what you have been doing to this soap is criminal!

    Love your rants Candace!
Thank you JFP!! Finally, a week NOT dominated by the monotonous Dylan, Chelsea, Tyler, and Lurch. My f/f finger got a well deserved rest.
For almost the first time I can remember since the new regime took over, the show actually looked like Y&R instead of D&B (dull & boring). It was so great to see all the wonderful veterans! They are so wonderfully talented and shine compared to most of the newbies. To give them credit, Noah, Summer and Alex are great. The rest can go home.
Shame on JFP for letting the mega-talented Eileen Davidson, Michelle Stafford and Emme (Marcy) Rylan leave Y&R. Shame on you for hiring actors because they look good without a shirt, can’t act, and have the charisma of a rock. BORING!! Shame on you for the ridiculous juvenile story lines. This iconic show deserves better. You may think the fans do not know what they want. You have demonstrated you are certainly oblivious to that as well. Do you care? Oh, one more thing. Get some decent hair stylists.
Re Rose and Gus – I thought Gus said he was not romantically involved with Rose.

I thought seeing Paul's/Doug Davidson's' Emmy in the GCPD this week was the highlight. But what do I know, I've only been watching for 40 yr.s. But at this point I have always love to hate characters like Victor and Phyllis, but they are now making me just hate characters like the selfish azz Nick. Where is the fun in that?
