    Jill's warning. (CBS)
    Restless Rant
    Week of July 1 – 5:

As discussed last week, "Y&R" has some issues. Soaps.com readers had their say in last week's Restless Rant poll, in which only 7% of nearly 2000 voters indicated they felt positively about the show. Thoughts on this week:

A rose by any other name.
So now the quest for 'Rose' is a quest for 'Anne'. Gah. Maybe if they had firmly established Leslie’s character before delving into this long, dragged on mystery about her family, viewers would care. It’s fast-forward material. As for Neil and the blog scandal, not only does the story need a jumpstart, but it’s strange that he and Jack haven’t had so much as a conversation about the effect on Jabot, given that Neil is running the fashion division. In fact, no one else in town has talked about it, or brought it up to Neil or any of his family members. Wouldn’t this be huge? It’s like this storyline is playing out in a bubble.

    Just snapping.
There was possibly some foreshadowing in the conversation between Paul and Michael about the woman who just snapped, raged out, and murdered her cheating husband. With the sudden existence of a Carmine/Lauren sex tape, things could surely get ugly. As for Carmine and the Lauren look-alike - what was up with that? Anyway, Michael and Lauren have been going two steps forward, one step back, which seems about right, and Paul gave himself a bit of a break this week by putting some closure on the Ricky situation. Nice.

    Rock him hard.
In another bit of foreshadowing, Billy talked about Jack having been able to beat his addiction demons because nothing has rocked him hard enough to send him back to them. Well, he’s about to be rocked right out of the mansion with the news that Summer’s his daughter, Phyllis kept it from him, and Phyllis kissed Kyle. That’s if anyone ever gets around to telling him of course. Anyway, the Abbott brothers did not disappoint this week – Jack dealing with drunk, broken Billy was fab.

    No-good loser.
Nikki and Billy’s discussion about addiction was also very good; very realistic. Then Victor blew in and kicked Billy out, calling him a worthless addict loser. It's absolutely true-to-form for him to say those insults to Billy, but to repeatedly state right in front of Nikki that addicts are worthless losers and not 'get' why it upset her seemed a tad too clueless for such a shrewd man.

    Victor’s spy.
It looks like newbie #9, er, Melanie, has managed to get herself caught in the middle of Victor and Adam's battle of wits. It probably would have been more interesting to watch someone we know, who is capable of holding their own with the Newman men, find themselves in this precarious position. Melanie is clearly in over her head – so awkward to watch.

    Opportunist.
It was satisfying to see Jill put that snippy Hilary newbie on notice. That girl has an agenda, and Jill was onto her from the word 'go'. Love it.

    Soap family fun. (CBS)
    Opportunity.
Mason, the Genoa City floater, got canned by Devon (who’s apparently taking a hatchet to that much-heralded campaign) and scored an instant bartending job because Noah decided to leave his post to flirt the truth out of Courtney and then run out to the tackhouse to tell Nick that Summer’s in Chicago. Noah couldn’t have phoned? Nick didn’t even ask who was running his bar! So funny.

    Falling off the camel.
So the deal with Stitch is that he's pushing Dylan to tell Chelsea 'everything', aka, 'what happened with Sullivan'... Why is this even an issue? Dylan told Sharon about it, like, the day they first held a conversation, so why would he be holding out on Chelsea? Whatever. Anyway, Stitch was charismatic, but bringing him to town to reiterate what a stellar dude Dylan is? Spare us. Also in this storyline, there was another run-in with Chelsea, Dylan, and glum bum, Adam. Zzz.

    Paternity party.
Nick telling Avery about Summer being Jack's daughter before Jack and Summer knew was straight up weak. Ugh. Avery jumping to the conclusion that it was Phyllis who had messed with the lab results made for a very entertaining exchange (nothing better than Phyllis losing her s***), but why did Nick stand there like his tongue had been ripped out and let Avery go on and on? Jeeze, Nick! Anyway, the whole 'Phyllis kissing NuKyle the dud, who dumped Summer, who ran away', business has been like a circus sideshow - not in a fun way - however, the bits with Abby and Traci being involved were good for a grin.

    Happily ever after?
Sharon's had a bit of a wild look in her eye again lately, and a keen interest in her past with Nick. Given her non-reaction over the paternity results, her cryptic reference to 'what I did' at Cassie's grave, and the fact that she was lurking around when Nick took the DNA samples to the lab, the speculation that she mucked with that paternity test is definitely a possibility.

    Am I a pigeon?
Yep, Alex and Abby did the right thing by going their separate ways. They were way too different and their bickering was hitting migraine levels. I'd still like to see him heat up the sheets with Chloe, which would surely make life at the police station interesting now that Kevin's working there.

    Villy, Chilly, and Clovin.
I'm with the lady cop, Kevin needs to cease and desist with the 'poor me' routine. Not that one could help feeling bad for him when he cried at the hospital, but it wasn't the time to make Chloe focus on him. So, we know he loves Delia and they should be allowed to continue their relationship, but yeah, let's move on. Also at the hospital, Billy and Chloe were doing a lot of embracing and being supportive of one another, not to mention the family scenes with Delia - all leading to reunion speculation. In the questionable writing department: Chloe's remark about Victoria kicking an addict when he was down, was bizarre since Chloe just walked out on Kevin for being 'addicted' to stealing, and she also got tough with Billy in similar circumstances in the past. Victor was behind-the-scenes of Billy's downfall that time. Do you think Victor has engineered Billy's return to gambling this time around? Vote:

I love the reference to Melanie as newbie #9, so where was Dylan #8 and now there is Stitch, #10? The newbies are driving me up the wall!!! And I don't even want to think about the re-casts. I have to remind myself every time Kyle and Abby are on screen exactly who the heck they even are. And Abby is such a snob and a bore I am so glad that the Alex deal is over (please let it be over for good). It's all the newbies that are driving me crazy the most. The new characters are boring and have absolutely no depth. I can't get invested in their problems in the slightest. I could not care less about Leslie and her search for Rose's daughter. I wish she would leave town to search for her and take Tyler with her and never come back!!
This show is just not the show I started watching.
It wasn't so long ago I couldn't wait till it came on everyday and now I don't even recognize it. I don't recognize half the actors and the s/l's are slow and boring. I knew immediately when these new writers took over due to the sudden lack of snap crackle and pop with the s/l's. I would start thinking about other things in the middle of a scene involving some of my favorite characters. It is so sad to me that these writers have been allowed to ruin such a wonderful program. Sorry, just had to rant.

I just read on the m/b (credit Decieved) that the powers that be should have just started their own show and I could not agree more! I wish they had started their own and left this one ALONE!!!!

The show is lost, disjointed, shallow. I can't even watch five minutes of it. This week was no different. TBTB have totally lost their way. Their finger is nowhere near the fading pulse of their viewers.

Congratulations to Doug Davidson on Paul's great scene at Ricky's gravesite. I would like to see Paul more often.
Shame on TPTB for changing Ricky's headstone.

Far too many new characters that no one cares about. It should be done one at a time and well-spaced when it needs to be done.

Billy MIller is a great actor and he shines in a scene no matter what is going on. I totally think Victor is behind this gambling thing. Not that Billy had to take the bait, but...

Nick is a weak, lilly-livered coward. That's all there is to say. He will be lucky to have one friend left in town after all this comes out. But then again, it might not even be true if Sharon tampered with the DNA results (or if the hair on Summer's brush wasn't actually her hair).

Adam was crushed when he saw that Chelsea was giving away the baby blanket her gave them for their baby. He is so not over her.

Lauren and Michael will probably bond over the threat from Carmine. It might even lead Michael to break the law which would be morally interesting for him. Christian LeBlanc is also a great actor.

I am glad Paul put the Ricky thing to rest. He accepts blame for his role in Ricky's amoral personality, but knows he did the right thing by saving the innocent.

Jill is going to turn out to be 100% right and Cane will have to eat a big piece of crow pie.

I admit to not watching the show much anymore due to "lack of interest" I tape it daily but only watch, maybe 10 minutes of it. I'm lost in the show. So many newbies and hard to keep up. Thank god for DVR's so I don't have to suffer through all the crap....:) BTW, I've been watching since the beginning and this has been the worst.

I was so bored this week. Nothing floated my boat no, not even a ripple. I am so ready to stop watching. I keep saying to myself that it will get better. When the new writers took over it was off to a pretty decent start and low and behold it crashed and burned. I will make my restless rant short and sweet. I need to see some excitement and I need it quick. Gone are the days of the cliffhangers that left us hanging on the edge of our seats not being able to wait until the next day or until the weekend would pass. The waiting to get home from work to see my favorite soap. I want that back. I feel I deserve it since I have been watching this show since it first debuted in 1973. I want the beautifully thought-out and well-written episodes again. The show always had a story to tell that dealt with everyday life but yet was so entertaining and noteworthy. The show is on a death wish if something does not change soon. I can barely watch it now. I find myself flipping the channel or doing something else when I am online watching. I am about to be so done. I stopped watching for awhile and came back after this team of writers came aboard. I want the show to come back to the entertaining magnum that I know it can be. Or I'm out and this time for good. I don't deserve this and I say this because I have invested over 40 years of my life and time watching it and as a loyal viewer I deserve better.

The only newbie I want to keep on the show is Alex (that is if he shaves). I'm so glad he & Abby are over. The nu-Abby just does nothing for the show, but the old Abby would definitely be hard to replace. Ditto for nu-Kyle. This week was very blah, maybe because of the holiday? Why don't we see more of Gloria? Victor was fun to watch this week, I love it when he gets together with Adam. Nick just standing there whil Avery tore into Phyliss was lame. It's frustrating that something always keep them from telling Jack the truth.

I hadn't thought about Victor being involved this time with Billy's return to gambling but anything is possible where Victor is concerned. The only thing is I'm really not up for this being the reveal, Victoria throwing a tantrum, vowing never to talk to her Daddy again; only to forgive him like two days later.

The Rose thing. Come on. And like you said, the whole thing is in a bubble. Why wouldn't the whole town know...especially Jack? And I thought Kevin was "on the case". *eye roll* My husband definitely thinks Carmine is going to bite it at some point. I wonder who will get him? The fake Lauren put him on a whole other creepy level that I don't like. He and Lauren were kinda hot at first!! So right about Noah could have called, too. Mason can just get jobs all over town for some reason! I really would like to see Alex with Chloe!! I think they had chemistry even when they weren't supposed to. As much as I love Billy, I hope he and Chloe don't get back together. Too much hugging today for my taste. Glad they wrapped up the Delia thing fast. Nick is really not acting himself! Why won't they just TELL JACK? NuKyle needs to leave town. Ick. I so miss the old sophisticated hot Kyle! Clovin. That's a good one! Hehe! Here's hoping to a better next week!!
