Week of May 13 – 17:
Well, it’s May Sweeps and the only storyline truly resonating at this point is Michael and Lauren’s. Thoughts on the week:
Stealing for kicks.
The Chloe/Kevin storyline continues to leave most viewers’ shaking their heads. It’s nearly impossible to relate to them anymore. For viewers, they’ve been basically acting out-of-character because they’ve lived and learned too much to be behaving like such whackjobs.
Chelsea seems to be falling for Dylan and has now decided to continue her lie on a permanent basis. Too bad Victoria appears to know the truth.
Be careful what you wish for... Many were desperate for Billy to get a storyline, and now he has one – he’s in screw-up mode again. Here’s hoping there’s a twist coming with Billy’s story so that it’s not as predictable as it’s looking – and so he’s not simply written like another Jack, who goes through life repeating the same mistakes over and over. Speaking of which…
Jack spent this week trying to convince Traci and John that everything with Phyllis was going swimmingly, so, of course, on Friday she announced she was moving out. Everyone else can see that Jack has set himself up in the same old situation again, yet he refuses to acknowledge it. Jack’s issues definitely play a role in his relationship failures – like how he stubbornly pushes for things to move full speed ahead and won’t listen to the other person.
Cane and Lily were out together again this week, although they kept getting interrupted. It was tough not to feel for Devon - feeling torn between Neil and Tucker's enticing offer. Neil didn't help with his little speech either! In other news, someone's taking photos of the Rogans and Neil. Hmm. Could this be Rose or someone else? Any theories?
It looks like Summer didn’t learn much from using Jamie to get back at Ronan, since she’s now using Fen to try to snag Kyle. One couldn’t help but feel for Fen getting sucked in. As for the rest of the equation, NuKyle continues to exist in a vacuum, not really connecting with anyone, including Summer.
Despite all Nick’s posturing about 'being sure' and 'taking it slow' he was clearly ready to put the ring back on Avery’s finger this week. After Summer showed up and confided that she wants Kyle to be her 'first', Nick had bigger fish to fry. It turns out the DNA test on Summer was inconclusive, and for reasons unknown to anyone but Nick, he elected not to follow up and re-submit the DNA to run the test again. Sigh... Here’s what could happen – Nick will agonize over this and stretch it out while Summer and Kyle fall in love. He’ll finally be forced to blurt out that they might be half-siblings, everyone’s head will blow up, and then the DNA test will prove that Nick’s her father after all. Who do you think is Summer’s father? Let Soaps.com know by voting in our Y&R Summer’s Paternity poll.
Leap of faith.
The bit with Adam and Victoria squaring off over the phony P.I. was good stuff, but the rest of the Newman story was super irritating this week. Why would Adam cave to Victor’s demand to cut Sharon out of his life when only three minutes beforehand, he’d told Victor to take a walk if he wasn’t on board with the funding? Furthermore, hurting Sharon when she hadn’t hurt him first is totally not Adam’s M.O. When he hurts someone, it’s because he’s lashing out impulsively in retaliation. It doesn’t make sense that he’d throw her over to get Victor’s approval – Adam was prepared to keep her on at Newman whether Victor liked it or not. Here's hoping this is part of a scheme against Victor instead. After all, Adam once told someone over the phone that Victor would never have Newman Enterprises again. Now he's cooking up funding deals over the phone - wonder if it's the same person, and if so, who it is?
It won’t work.
The progression of Michael and Lauren’s journey following the reveal about Carmine has been dramatic and emotional – such good soap opera! The touching scene where Michael told Lauren he would try to forgive her really got to me. It looks like it’s not going to be easy, however…
