    Voice of reason? (CBS)
    Restless Rant
    Week of April 22 – 26:

There was plenty to enjoy as the week played out, however, definitely noticing a big focus on some non-core characters - what's up with that? A bit of a rant - viewers need to be able to count on certain things about characters they've invested in and have gotten to know - it's frustrating when that goes out the window for the sake of a plot. Case in point - Adam suddenly using Sharon and treating her coldly. What? Love them or hate them together, Adam's deep-rooted feelings for Sharon have become a fundamental part of what makes him tick. So much so, that it was what caused trouble between him and Chelsea in the first place - you can't have it all ways.

    Who’s the daddy?
What a mess Chelsea has gotten them all into! The timely baby gift and letter from Adam was a nice complication. Anyway, some viewers are still trying to get their minds around Chelsea being a fabulous designer and now here she is back to pulling cons – except that she doesn’t see it as that because there’s no money involved? Hmm. Dear Chelsea, when Anita’s being the voice of reason, that should be your first clue that you’re in big trouble! Dylan’s romantic gesture toward Chelsea on Friday was very sweet – there was definitely a zap between them. It made for smiles, but also made it so much worse what Dylan is going to go through when the truth comes out. Gah. Would you like to see Chelsea in a relationship with Dylan or go back to Adam? Vote in Soaps.com's Y&R Chelsea’s Options poll.

    Welcome to the 21st century.
Victor and Victoria’s sparring match at Newman over her return to work was pretty good stuff, especially her setting him straight on how women can have it all etc. The problem is figuring out Victoria's real motivations – only two weeks back she was all about staying home and devoting herself to having a baby. From the time she saw the headline about Sharon running the company it seemed obvious she was going to follow in Victor’s footsteps of always struggling for balance with family and the company. These issues sometimes drove Nikki back to her vice, and the same may prove to be true for Billy – though I’d love to see a twist here instead of the same old ‘Billy is a screw-up’ routine.

Should I sit on your lap?
One of the best scenes of the week was moody Adam’s face-off with Victor in the office. The one-liners, reluctant half-grins, and knowing chuckles felt super-satisfying.

    Secrets.
Gus’s secrets became mildly more intriguing this week, but I’d like to see Neil doing more than supporting every day. Where’s Devon, by the way?

    Toast to the beauties.
The friendship between Noah and Tyler is a promising development. Noah being a little off the rails is kind of cute – would like to see more! As for Tyler, it’s good that they’ve rounded him out a bit so he’s not just this flashy egomaniac making a play for a married woman.

    I’ve made a decision.
Wow, powerful stuff for our Lauren and Michael this week! Although aspects of this have been hard to stomach – the demonizing of Lauren, Michael’s agony – it’s also brilliant in that we feel so much because we’re so invested. As for Fen – he’s clearly on track to be Kevin 2.0 – I wouldn’t want to be in Summer’s high heels right now – her rejection was clearly a last straw of sorts for Fen. Speaking of Summer…

    Female flip-flopper. (CBS)
    Second chances.
It’s been an eventful week for Summer – managing to convince Phyllis to let her move into the same house as Kyle (using the magic word – Avery), and then landing a dream job from the person who miscarried because of her. How convenient that in a room full of models, Tyler twigged on Summer as the perfect candidate, and even more amazing, Chelsea, who formerly couldn’t stand to lay eyes on Summer, was feeling warm and fuzzy and giving out second chances! They’d all better watch out, though, because with Summer working there, Fen might try to burn the place down!

The good, the bad, and the disastrous
John visited Jack to tell him what he already knows – Phyllis' whole heart isn’t into being with him and it’s going to end badly. Still wondering if Phyllis will self-sabotage by bedding Kyle, thereby screwing up her relationships with both Summer and Jack.

    Spice from Istanbul.
The face-off between Phyllis and Avery was pretty heated. Boing, boing! Avery got in a few good digs too, but really doesn’t have much of a leg to stand on. Love to see Phyllis being feisty!

    Dare to be different.
Lily’s situation became more complex this week, as she appears to be wrestling with unexpected feelings where Tyler’s concerned, while Cane’s being more understanding than ever. The scene between her and Neil was good – it wasn’t realistic for him to be oblivious to what’s going on in the office.

    No strings attached.
Adam's certainly capable of mistreating people, but since Adam fell for Sharon, he has only lashed out at her when he felt hurt by her, so Friday's whole 'cold' thing seemed so off. Perhaps it's a set-up for Sharon to go on some kind of downward spiral again. It just seems they’re heading that direction what with showing her meds recently, and having Noah ask her if she’s been taking them.

    Flip-flop.
How ironic – Nick’s fallen for the female version of himself – the heartfelt flip-flopper! Nick’s getting a taste of his own medicine, for sure, and did he really tell Avery that he’s never been a jealous guy? Really Nick? Really! Anywho, it looks like Avery may try for a re-do with Dylan just to complicate his life even more.

    I love you all!
It was amazing and fantastic that Jill and Murphy finally showed up at Katherine’s bedside in the hospital. About time! What ensued were awesome scenes, although it was just a teeny bit questionable for Katherine to ask Cane to run Chancellor. Anyway, it is what it is, and the scene where Katherine was rolled out, shouting, "I love you all!" was so poignant, especially considering Jeanne Cooper’s health crisis in real life. So emotional!

Another week without Paul. I miss him. Doug Davidson is an amazing actor and he deserves to appear more often. Please writers, write for Paul.

The sparring between Adam & Victor was the best ever. You could tell they both were enjoying themselves immensly. This is going to be a good s/l.I can't understand Adam's coldness to Sharon either, could be just to show him as callus as Victor? I am really tired of hearing Avery trying to convince Nick that she really really loves him. Why should a guy who has always thought he's hot stuff be so insecure?

I'm not happy to see Chel's Mom back. She'll probably tell Adam the truth & complicate her life even more. It's so sweet the way Dylan is treating her, I wish it was his baby. Why should Billy apologize to Vicky for anything after she didn't talk it over with him before announcing that she was going back to Newman? I loved the scene of Kay being wheeled away sayiing I love you all! It looks like they just bring the dads back to GC to die or maybe not.

Michael's suffering is so real, he is a great actor. What will happen when he finds out that Lauren & Carmine have both left town? Carmine wouldn't let go of the singer (Devon's protegy)either. He is another guy who can't stand to think that anyone would reject him. So Lily is jealoous of Tyler's other interests after all her protesting that she & Tyler are just friends.

    Great rant this week Candace!!

Particularly loved the points on Victoria and Billy. Victoria to me has always been the one most likely to me to follow in Victor's footsteps ( she's been the golden child for a long time). I just wish someone would actually bring up to her that the last time she put this much of a priority into work, she lost her marriage to J.T and custody of her son.

Adam's coldness to Sharon does not make any sense. That was his redeeming quality, his undying love for Sharon. They are making him act so out of character. He was always a decisive man and not one to waffle and wallow.
Sharon deserves so much better. She has been through so much. I hope Adam comes to his senses and begs forgiveness and shows his love for Sharon

I have only a couple more comments: I really miss the old Abby, she added so much to the show. The new one is just another blonde, so much like the others. And the new Kyle - no no no - it's too much of a change! He looks more like a hippie than a priviliged Abbott. I think it's a really bad casting error.

It is amazing how a show has access to Paul/DD & Michael/CLeB and choose to push all the newbies, apparently their favs, who are good, but nothing compared to Paul, Michael, Lauren, Jill, Katherine, Billy, Victoria, Nick, Nikki, Neal, Devon, etc..
Why don't the writer's write the s/l's using the new actors lives AROUND these awesome vets?? NOT the other way around..
And I more thing.. How many homes does Adam need?? Why didn't Y&R put PAUL in Victor's penthouse!!!???
****4 YEARS of ADAM In comparison to 35 YEARS for PAUL!!!???
Paul and Michael are a good writer's DREAM!!! What's their problem/excuse?!!?
***** Why HIRE NEW actors, when you don't have time for the GREAT ACTORS you already have!!!!

Posted by zuzu61 at Saturday, April 27 2013 02:42 PM

YES!! ABBY/Marcy Rylan was another example of GREAT!!!! SO WHY???!!??

Posted by zuzu61 at Saturday, April 27 2013 02:48 PM

WHY can't Billy, Victoria & Nick & Avery be happy?? Finally!! Poor Nick finds a beautiful woman with some common sense and You bring in this one expression dude from her past and scew things up.
Victor, will you PLU-EEASE stop acting like a Jr. High School Jealous Girl and show Billy some respect?! I love you Victor, but since when was you record so squeaky clean?!? ha
