Week of January 14 – 18:
As with last week, the most interesting storylines involved Jack and those embroiled in the drama surrounding Newman Enterprises. Jamie's continued inability to catch a break definitely tugged at the heartstrings too. This week's thoughts:
It might be kinda’ hot.
Noah is very hot. Noah and Adriana have had some hot scenes. The problem is that few can see why Noah would be so irresistibly attracted to her. I’m often drawn to underdogs/edgier characters, but so far Adriana hasn’t twigged anything like that, nor has her story been of much interest beyond briefly wondering what her true connection to Alex might be. By the way, couldn't believe poor Summer was upstairs sick while Noah and Adriana were getting it on!
I have to say it was satisfying seeing Lily give Tyler attitude - his endless stream of rhetoric was definitely getting annoying. Lily set up a trail of clues for Cane that led to a romantic rendezvous in the honeymoon suite at the Club. Thankfully, someone at Y&R seems to be starting to recall how to pen a passionate scene, as we were privy to some interaction beyond ‘going up the stairs’ and ‘clutching blankets to chests in the afterglow’. There may be hope. Some viewers are concerned that for Lily and Cane this interlude may have been their one last hurrah before things begin to crumble. Probably a good bet.
What’s up with Leslie and Tyler whispering about covering their tracks and worrying about people running background checks? It’s pretty unbelievable to think that Leslie would be involved in anything sordid – after all she worked for Vance Abrams for eons. Wouldn’t he have had her checked out? In any case, I haven’t decided how I feel about them being potentially shady or on the run. What I do know is that Leslie and Neil have solid chemistry – love it.
I refuse to believe that Nick Newman wouldn’t have had his bar properly re-wired and have had a huge crowd at his grand opening. He’s a lot of things, but not incompetent. It’s irksome that they’re making him seem like an insecure airhead so that Avery has to ride to the rescue. Her pep talks are repetitive and annoying - she needs to be a girlfriend, not his mother/assistant/nursemaid...
Even though Devon’s still being his typical uptight self, Tucker has made headway with Katherine this week. Most of the time, I’ve enjoyed the story of their struggle to build a working relationship. Missed Jill this week, however it was awesome to see Murphy finally.
Up on the rooftop.
Looks like trouble ahead in the Lauren/Michael union, thanks to their dastardly offspring. I still don’t get why Fen would be like Kevin or Michael in the old days, since their issues came from living in an abusive environment and Fen didn’t, but that seems to be the gist of the storyline. In any case, those evil smirky expressions Fen gets on his face are a bit too ‘mustache-twirling villain’ for my taste, but it all works somehow to make us want to smack this kid and throw our arms around poor Jamie and protect him. I suspect that Fen is only indirectly responsible for Jamie’s fall, and that his ‘lesson learned’ will come in having a hard time proving it because of his despicable behavior leading up to the incident.
It's been another pretty satisfying week in the Jack storyline. I loved that he caught Victor's man snooping in the cabin and got the 411 on The Black Knight's plan, even if it was a bit too easy. Also interesting is Jack's complete turnaround from being totally selfish (even before the pills) to completely unselfish and all about truth and justice. That said, he must also see the writing on the wall where Victor and Newman is concerned. Notably, if Jack confesses, that takes away Victor's leverage (big miscalculation on his part), and Billy and Adam will continue to reign at Newman for now - which makes for entertaining viewing as the two butt heads. Speaking of Newman Enterprises - so weird that Victor shows up and conducts business and press conferences whenever he likes! Honorable mention in this whole storyline this week was Victoria finally walking in while Victor was doing his usual song and dance on Billy and taking Billy's side. Nice!
