Nervous to eat her cupcakes. (CBS)
    Restless Rant
    Week of October 22 – 26:

As viewers continue to adjust to the new writing team at "Y&R," there are a few questionable things going on and dangling threads that are irksome, but overall it’s quite good. Many of the characters seem better defined, the camera work is more interesting, and the scenes have been tightened up – love the brisk pace too! Let’s take a look at the week:

    Family feud.
Phyllis appears to be entering a different phase, as yet another marriage to Nick ends, she’s estranged from her daughter, and her sister seems on the verge of betraying her. Phyllis may deserve whatever heartache she gets on a karmic level, but it’s hard to be okay with Avery being the one to kick her in the teeth. When Avery was with Nick previously, she hadn’t reconnected with Phyllis on any level, but now it’s a different story. Also, Avery parted ways with Nick before because she was certain he’d never really be over Phyllis. Hmm. Aside from the ick factor, Avery and Nick do share chemistry, and Avery’s er, daydreams, were pretty hot. Phyllis should probably go ahead and indulge in Ronan. One thing I found incongruous is how Phyllis rages at rival Christine, but when faced with the idea of Nick/Avery, she calmly asks, "So, are you going to do this thing with my sister?" Huh? As for NuSummer, it's like watching a random teenager in scenes with Phyllis and Nick. I don't yet feel like 'this is Phyllis and her daughter' - probably the result of the rapid aging followed by the sudden casting change. Summer and Avery connected this week - makes you wonder how Avery will fare if she starts boinking Dad. Summer also lifted that boy's wallet - could he be Ronan's son? Pretty out-of-the-blue if he is...

    Mystery woman.
Gah. Thankfully this storyline didn’t get a lot of screen time this week. It’s obviously Genevieve’s exit story, so we have to bear with it, I just hope it will spell the end of the Atkinson nonsense as opposed to kicking off another chapter of it. In other news, we're to believe that Cane didn't get promoted because of Jack's history with Genevieve? Jack hired Cane as his right-hand man long after Gen had betrayed him - so color me confused.

    Juggling. (CBS)
    Out of retirement.
I love the idea of Katherine coming out of retirement. So much so, that I was able to overlook how weird it seemed that Neil would want to leave such a great post to go work for Jack. Also strange is how Neil’s personal life has dissolved into thin air.

    Ranch re-do.
Those scenes with Victor surveying the charred remains of his home really tugged at the heartstrings. I got a kick out of the flashbacks of Victor and Nikki too.

    The fight for Newman.
I actually admired Nick (this doesn't happen everyday) for bowing out of the drama of ‘fighting for the company’, but continued to dislike Victoria’s sudden mania for all things Newman. Why would she be willing to have Billy compromise himself to impress Victor? It's beyond comprehension. What about all the hideous things Victor has done to them? Why would she even want to pass his legacy on to Johnny? What do you think about Victoria asking this of Billy? Let us know by voting in's Y&R Vikki’s Request poll.

    I set the fire.
As much as I enjoy Adam being back in dicey territory as a character, deciding to bring Sharon to live on his property probably wasn’t his brightest moment. As Sharon’s downward spiral continues, it’s only a matter of time before Chelsea discovers her – especially if she keeps showing up in the house! Looking forward to seeing how Adam juggles all of this...

    Crimson Lights chaos.
The showdown with Phyllis and Christine was pretty entertaining. It looks like Chris will ride off to California now and save the day for Paul. I’m glad about that, since Paul needs to be out of jeopardy and into a hot romance or something. I love Nina, but she and Paul are like brother and sister. Paul and Christine? Just no.

    hey,Candace !!!!!

I liked Phyllis but, she's been so all over the place that she acts like Sharon. both are crazy as a bug!!!

why would Adam want crazy tailed Sharon after she was being so stupid acting like she was a big shot with Tucker.

I just wish the case with Paul would come to an end and that they would get him a successful woman to be with. OH YEAH there isn't one on here except Mrs. C and that won't work. Nina? no way!! Christine? no way she is too mancho and whinney.

it is still the same ole stuff unfinished story lines and missing character's too.

it's so cotton pickin aggravating that you just sit back and wait to see what looney story will they think up next!!

I have to admit and hate to say that I cannot stand the Nusummer or her behaviour. I get she would be a spoiled rich kid but she is certainly make Abby seem to be the perfect child all of a sudden. She is so upset with Phyllis for doing whta Nick has always done. Remember your step sister Faith? Now the heck do you think that happened you spoiled little princess.
The neil thing was weird and I am not understanding that at all. I am trying to be patient with the writers so I hope things come to conclusions soon.
Totally Agree about Jack and Cane, just strange.
I agree that the chemistry with Nick and Avery is there, I hope they go for it.
I also agree with the chemistry of Paul and Nina and I was trying to figure out who would be a good match for him.
I personally don't like any scene that has Phyllis and Christine in it together. Enough already.
I hate to see Adam and Chelsea going through this, I hate that this romance is going to end because of Sharon. that one for sure pains me but hey, it is a soap!

I HATE the re-hookup of Sharon and Adam. This isn't rebuilding her, it's tearing her down! She is yet under the control of another Newman. I do think the hairstyles are better and love Avery's light filled apartment.

You make some great points as usual Candace.

I'm wondering what happened to the stock that Abby bought. It was nice to see her and Carmine this week - unfortunately it was probably the last time. I don't like losing core characters like Abby - hope they bring her back soon.

Not sure about the new writers yet - will have to wait and see where they go with their storylines.

Like I mentioned before, here's hoping the Newman Ranch has a new look instead of the old drab out-of-date colors. Bring some light and colors into the home that represent a new beginning for Nicki and Victor.

    An uneven week.
Started out fast paced and hot, hitting stride mid-week with Avery's sizzling daydreams, but things fizzled by a fast-forward through Thursday, and the most non-cliffhangery Friday in a long, long time. Yes, we get it, Nick likes Avery's cupcakes. That's it? End of a Friday show? What a disappointment.

Great scene of Nikki and Victor at the ranch (perfectly enhanced by the playing of Nadia's theme).
Christine may need to be rescued if Isabella is lurking in CA.
Avery's fantasies were hot! I kept waiting for her to spread cupcake frosting all over Nick and lick it off!
Nusummer...not least creepy Fenmore was not around.

I think Jack is going to be dependent on pain pills, & this is going to interfer with him running the companies, he is going to lose everything, victor will get his company back & Jack's company too, sharon is going down too, adam needs to lose chelse, but at least sharon recornize her part in it all & wants adam to do the right thing, but she will be dependent on adam she want let go, for she'll need him to tell more lie, trying to get out of burning the house down. Something will lead them to sharon being there, hope chelse finds sharon on the property & put 2&2 together.

Please Victoria has ALWAYS been obsessed with Newman. It was a problem in her marriage to JT when she put it above him and Reed. So I am not surprised. My biggest issue with that mess is that BILLY is willing to spy on his own brother. Billy needs to reclaim his manhood ASAP. It's quite pathetic and sad watching him be Victoria's wimp.
