    Jeff's a jerk. (
    Restless Rant
    Week of April 2 – 6:

"Y&R" was pretty good this week – but not sensational. The business-oriented stories have their intriguing moments, but aren’t so thrilling when played so heavily. More 'warm fuzzy' moments or romantic interludes would have balanced things out. Also, disjointed storytelling seems to be featuring again, with characters/storylines abruptly going missing in action for multiple days or longer.

    Don’t forget we’re still married...
As much as Jeffrey may belong with his 'Honey Bunny', and delivers some of the best one-liners on the show, he’s also capable of being a huge jerk. We were hit over the head with that fact this week, when he refused to acknowledge Chelsea as his daughter, and when we learned he is married to Anita! While I relish Gloria’s reaction to this news, I also feel protective of her this time around. This storyline could prove to be a far-fetched disaster, or be quite entertaining. Waiting to see...

    Beauty of Nature.
The story of Genevieve and her company has taken some interesting turns, and made for some excellent scenes. The problem is, many viewers simply don’t care much who ends up with Beauty of Nature. I’m not sure who will wind up with the company, but my guess is that Jack has blown it by sounding off to Nikki. Things never seem to go his way – I’d think twice about the risky surgery if I were him! Victor will probably come out on top as usual, and will put Nicholas and Sharon in charge. Who do you think should own Beauty of Nature? Vote in’s Beauty of Nature poll.

    Old Chloe, Meet Old Victoria.
The friendship between Chloe and Victoria, though unexpected, continues to work. I wish Victoria had told Chloe she and Kevin are better as friends before she married him, but hey, we can’t have it all. It was entertaining watching Chloe and Victoria decide how to deal with Carmine, who shared more electricity with Chloe inside of 10 seconds than she and her husband ever have. I'm fine with Carmine sticking around. Victoria, meanwhile, has just been all over the place. She’s gone from nearly declining to work with Gen because of not wanting to compete with Victor, to deciding to buy the company out from under him within a couple of weeks. She hates the way Victor controls people, yet she's shown signs of the same behavior toward Chelsea - to the point where Chelsea lashed out and left. Victoria is disgusted with her father for blatantly and unapologetically trying to destroy her relationship more than once, and yet she runs straight to him asking for help! It's tough to get a handle on where she's coming from!

    Baby's coming! (
It was nice to see some realism injected into Harmony’s storyline with her finally having a craving for the pipe, but her run-in with Sarge was puzzling. She needed to talk and he listened - so what if he isn’t in AA himself? He was lending a supportive ear, which is what she needed, so her anger just seemed a bit trumped up. As for Harmony’s close moment with Neil with the poetry quote, it felt contrived. I just don’t see these two together.

    Forgive and not forget.
Devon and Katherine ‘making up’ after she revealed she was trying to learn sign language was very genuine and heart-warming. Also, Devon needed to be told that she doesn’t have all the time in the world to wait for him to come around – I’m glad she put that out there.

    Second Time Around Club.
Poor Lily and Cane got stuck looking at Gloria’s honeymoon photos while trying to have a romantic evening together! It was a nice bit of comic relief, especially after their run-in with Genevieve earlier. I totally get why Cane is leery of her – she’s not been a proper mother to him most of his life, she’s a bit of a wing nut, and, she’s still keeping secrets as evidenced by her hidden past relationship with Tucker. What’s that all about? Hmm.

    Court order.
The Lucy issue inched forward this week with Daniel gaining some ground, and Phyllis getting to hold her again. Lucy must be such a confused child! I wish they would settle her with someone once and for all.

    Oh, baby.
It was an interesting week for Adam, beginning with Victor’s definitely suspicious visit to the Club. There must be something coming up that Victor plans to use him for – perhaps to help get back Beauty of Nature? Later, Adam found himself mixed up in Victoria and Chelsea's drama after returning her phone, and wound up getting a whole lot more than he bargained for when he had to pull Chelsea from the freezing pond and she announced the impending birth of her child! All I could think about was Brad when Chelsea was in the pond – they need to fill that thing in!

I'm glad you could come up with a few positives for the shows this week. I found it one of the most boring weeks I ever tried to watch. I'm not interested in any s/ls except Chelsea and Adam's budding friendship. Otherwise this week was a complete snooze-fest! As usual, the corporate s/ls are too drawn-out and get boring day after day! I miss Billy!

I can always find positives - even if it's just the acting and not the material there's always something, lol.

Gen--a wing nut? That is flattering. I still do not know what to make of this woman. I haven't a clue as to what the writers are doing with her. She is taking BON all over the place; she is the new Phyllis--in everybody's business or storyline somehow. First, attempting to kill Colin b/c he made her crazy. Next stop, the Jack Abbott connection, then TGVN and now there is a hinting of a past connection to Tucker. Colin in returning, so I am waiting to see where Gen lands or if she lands at all.

I was glad to finally get a hot glimpse of Cane and Lily together this in today's US episode.

There needs to be some human interest stories in all of this corporate/business wheeling & dealing. It is too stark and bare-boned to enjoy.

Candace, finding positives in Y&R to report puts you in the ranks of sainthood. Thanks for keeping the faith.

I like Adam and Chelsea as they are both excellent actors. they can be Bonnie & Clyde together or support each other on their road to redemption.

Genevieve and Tucker: Okay, Ashley isn't going to like that one. Especially since he should have disclosed this around the time it came out about Diane too

Posted by Candace at Friday, April 06 2012 01:24 PM

Agree! Ashley's already sour - she's really not going to like that Tucker's hiding a past with Genevieve!

Guess I must be in the minority because I HATE Chloe and Victoria's random friendship. Since hooking up with Kevin and becoming friends with Victoria Chloe is almost as watered down as Billy Newman is. Almost. I miss the old Chloe I knew and loved. Of course I also miss the old Billy. Just another reason why I have stopped tuning in.

And I am so tired of Beauty of Nature. Jabot needs to send Ashley back into the lab to create something new. Dust off that Glow by Jabot ad that is almost 20 years old. Heck, create a RIVAL brand! This endless circle for Beauty of Nature is old and tired.

If these people are to be smart businessmen, they would not be purchasing BON. Jack's offer was way over market value and Gen bought it for more. Now she is selling it to the highest bidder for more than she paid for it. I doubt this business is the gold mine everything thinks. If someone bought it, how many years would it take to pay off the exaggerated price and make a profit?

It was nice to see some realism injected into Harmony’s storyline with her finally having a craving for the pipe, but her run-in with Sarge was puzzling. Candace; I agree about Y&R finally showing some realism with Harmony's addiction. But there are a few things you should know. Unless it's an open meeting, Sarge shouldn't be at that meeting. Was he there to support someone? Did everyone at the meeting know that, cause if it was a closed meeting, they would have sent him across the hall to the Alanon meeting next door!!! If it's an open meeting, than that's another story. Maybe Harmony should have asked him about his addiction first, but remember, she was having cravings? There is no way Sarge can understand her addiction, and what she is going through, unless he's an addict/drunk himself. The second part of AA is Anonymous! If he doesn't understand, because he's not an addict, then what's to keep him from talking about what she told him in confidence? He could be lying to her? Maybe he's afraid she will tell someone he was at a meeting too and that he is also an addict. Jack comes to mind here. Nikki does this all the time, but we know what a big mouth she is and how she is always butting into everyone's business!!! She talks about who she has seen in meetings! Only another addict/alcoholic can understand what another addict/alcoholic is going through, because they have been there themselves. I love the scenes between Nikki and Catherine when they talk about their Alcoholism! But I do agree, Harmony didn't need to get that angry about it. But remember she was craving a fix? Harmony needs more phone numbers from other members of her AA/NA meetings. There's a lot of others she should be calling. Who's her sponsor? Catherine? I wish that Y&R would get more real about AA/NA!!! At least they talk about it! I don't know too many shows that do....but, maybe they are trying to protect AA and what it's really all about! Seems to me that one of the writers could be having some of the same issues?

Oh and I love that Neil and Harmony may get together!!! I'm so tired of Sofia....She just isn't right for Neil!!! She would have been great with Malcolm!

So sick of Jack/Nikki, Nick/Phyllis/Sharon. Bring on some new characters and get rid of these old story lines!!!

I hate it when the same characters go through the same old all the time. I have no idea why they made Jeff such a jerk after getting his "hunny bunny" back. Why not step up, so you have a kid, your not 16, deal with it. Why does gloria have to have all the idiots all the time. Give the woman a break and I think Jeff could be a great character, they could be hte foundation the one solid thing there where people go to "get away or even advice", why keep screwing with the same characters.
I hate Victor's attitude and I hate even more that victoria runs to him, why confront a man that will never admit he is wrong. Does she like being yelled at like a child all the time. Oh it gets on my nerves.
I have to disagree with a poster, I would love to see a friendship with Chelsea and Adam. They need each other cause they can be real and not put on fake faces, they can be real with each other and no matter what a bad person you are, we all need someone. I love the two of them together, keep it coming.
Wow, am I the only one who will comment on a Jack and Nikki reunion? Does anyone see it? These people are all nuts, bouncing around, not talking, talking, caring more then anything in the world for someone you hated last week. YIKES!
anyway, great rant as always Candace, I hope the show picks up a bit and ends some storylines and gets NEW ideas for storyline.
I am afraid of what will happen to Y & R, soap opera land is coming to an end because the viewers are smarter and don't buy into the crap they dish. They better pick it up a bit or who knows what will happen!
