    At the hospital, Joe tells Avery he won't fight the doctor on going to the Chicago facility. Avery offers to go with him - her support could make a difference. Joe asks, "How's your fiance going to feel about this?" Avery steps out and calls Dylan about it. Dylan gets that she needs to help Joe. Avery tells Joe that Dylan's okay with her going.

    At Sharon's place, Dylan tells Sharon that Avery's going to Chicago whether he likes it or not. Sharon urges him to go tell her how he really feels. Later, Avery arrives and spars verbally with Sharon. Avery says she was proud to defend her when she was accused of murder before, but she's gotten to know her better since then. Sharon calls her a hypocrite. Avery admits she doesn't think Sharon's capable of double-murder, but she also didn't think she'd burn down the Newman ranch. Sharon tells her Dylan's not okay with her going with Joe and wonders if it's Joe she really wants. They argue heatedly. Michael enters and tries to break it up but he collapses.

    At the hospital, Dr. Shelby tells Avery and Joe that Joe's nervous system has severe damage - he will be transferred to a therapeutic clinic. Joe sneers that's to teach him to adapt to life in a wheelchair. Shelby exits. Joe tells Avery to go. In the corridor, Shelby compares notes with Leslie, who is preparing to go up against ADA Mobley. In Joe's room, he tells Avery he doesn't want her pity. Avery talks about options, but he hollers at her to leave. Dylan appears. Joe tells him to come in and claim his prize. "You win!" Joe keeps up the anger until Dylan takes Avery out. After, Shelby talks to a hostile Joe about his attitude making a difference. Joe says the life he could have had is gone for good.

    At Crimson Lights, Avery and Dylan discuss their gut instincts. He can't turn away from Sharon and Avery can't walk away from Joe.

    Avery returns to the hospital where Shelby tells her the right person can make all the difference to Joe's recovery. She goes in and makes Joe eat.

    At the hospital, Joe watches Avery awaken in the chair. There's still no feeling in his legs. "That hasn't changed, but everything else has." The doctor enters. Joe is eager to get into therapy. Avery cautions him to be patient. Joe tries to get up. Avery leans in close to calm him as Dylan arrives. Dylan brings her into the hall and asks her to represent Sharon. Avery argues - it's not a good time. Dylan says, "Because of Joe." Michael appears as Dylan tells Avery she's not Joe's nurse. Beeping is heard. Avery finds Joe on the floor. Back in bed, Joe admits to Avery that he's afraid. She'll hang on for him if he can't. They discuss her turning down Sharon's case. Avery isn't so sure she's innocent. In the hall, Dylan frets to Michael. He asks if he'll take Sharon on. Later, Avery and Joe play Hangman. He does the word 'angel' and looks at her adoringly.

    At the hospital, Dylan watches Avery tell Joe that she'll find a way to make this up to him. He gets a call from Sharon, who is saying goodbye. She hangs up. Paul arrives as Dylan leaves her a voicemail. He quizzes Dylan about Sharon and mentions Joe's alleged accident. In Joe's room, Avery talks about things she would have done differently. He codes. Dr. Shelby rushes in. Avery won't leave. He barks at her to get out of the way. Avery joins Dylan and Paul, frantic about Joe.

    At the hospital, Paul gets a call from Noah, who says some things came up and his mother took off. Paul leaves and Shelby tells Avery she can see Joe, who had a reaction to the anesthesia. She goes in and says his name. He moves his thumb on her finger and opens his eyes. Avery fills him in on what happened. Joe says he'll tell Paul he lost his footing - he promises not to let her take the fall for this. Dr. Shelby enters to check Joe. He says there is swelling around the spinal cord and leaves. Joe tells Avery he can't feel his legs. "Am I paralyzed?" Avery admits it's possible. He vows to walk again.

    At the Club, Lily hears Avery scream after Joe went over the terrace wall. They look down. Avery runs and tells Lily to call an ambulance. Outside, Avery stands by Joe's body. "I'm so sorry." Joe is strapped onto a stretcher and Paul insists on taking Avery's statement. In the suite, Avery explains about their celebration. She says Joe kissed her. "It was unexpected." Paul asks, "Was it?" Avery says she pushed him away and he fell. Paul confirms they were alone when it happened.

    At the hospital, Avery has flashbacks to her interactions with Joe outside his room. Dr. Barton Shelby emerges. Joe is being prepped for surgery. Avery learns he may not be able to walk again and that they are just trying to keep him alive right now. In Michael's room, Cane tells him he knows what it's like to be in Lauren's place. Michael says he doesn't want her life to be smaller because of this - he can't talk to her about these things. She appears. Michael's being released. In the hall they encounter Avery and she tells them Joe fell and is in surgery. In a moment alone, she confides in Michael that she pushed him. Michael's concerned that she told Paul. He questions her going to Joe's suite.
