TWO HOURS EARLIER...
Jill, Cane, Chloe, Esther, and Murphy chat with Mitchell Sherman's son in the mansion living room. Murphy says Katherine made changes to her will the day she came back from the hospital. Murphy says Katherine gave everyone what they deserved. Jill re-reads her letter. Murphy assures her she had a very special place in Katherine's heart. Jill imagines sipping a martini wearing Kay's diamonds and furs. Lily, Kevin, and Devon arrive. Jill tells Esther she hopes she's not expecting a windfall. Esther imagines Jill is the maid getting her another martini. Devon imagines getting Katherine's record collection. Kevin imagines inheriting everything and Chloe begging him to take her back.
Victor arrives at the Chancellor mansion and tells Jill this was too painful for Nikki. Sherman begins the will reading. Murphy inherits her classic car collection, a quarter of the estate, her country house, and the fishing pole she couldn't figure out. Esther receives a monthly stipend of $20,000 as long as she stays on at the mansion. Cane is to continue as sole CEO of Chancellor Industries. Jill is put out. Cane reassures her. Jill imagines Cane calling her an old dinosaur. She asks Sherman who owns the company. Sherman says Katherine wishes the fate of her company to remain private for now. Victor gets her collection of first edition books, and must read them. Tucker is given the record collection. Brock, Mac, Phillip III, Phillip IV, and Nina share one quarter of the estate equally, and Nikki inherits her writings. Chloe receives her couture gowns, and Delia is provided with an education fund of $500,000. Katherine leaves Kevin a wooden box containing a skeleton key so no door can hold him in again and so he can unlock the secret to his happiness. The remainder of Katherine's fortune, $2,475,000,000, is bequeathed to Devon. Jill is left Katherine's half of the house, but she can never sell it. She also leaves Jill her most prized and valuable possession. Sherman hands Jill a music box. After everyone's gone, Jill asks Esther to leave her alone. She sighs, "How could you?" Esther stops her from throwing the music box at Katherine's picture. She assures her Katherine loved her. She encourages Jill to figure out the message in the music box. Once alone, Jill sees the date of Katherine's 12th birthday is on the bottom, and the music box is in the drawing. "What does this all mean?"
At Katherine's memorial service in the park, Jill composes herself after breaking down and tells those in attendance the story of how she and Katherine met and became friends. She explains about the history between her, Katherine, and Phillip. She thought that was the end of her relationship with Katherine...but it was just the beginning. Jill says she never imagined the impact Katherine would have on her life. She marvels that they made their peace with each other...but it didn't happen overnight. Jill then reflects on how the six years they believed they were mother and daughter beautifully redefined their relationship. Others think back on Katherine and Jill's love/hate relationship. Jill says they were destined to have their lives entwined - she doesn't know what kind of universal joke that was... She recalls the last night she saw her going up the stairs. Jill says Katherine will always be with her. "None of our lives will ever be the same without you." Murphy takes the podium with an urn. He says Katherine wants everyone to participate in remembering her. Paul fondles a letter from Katherine. Christine asks if he'll open it. Father Todd reads a poem and then places the urn on a table. Each person lays a rose beside the urn and says their last words to Katherine. Chloe then reads a poem that Delia wrote for Katherine about being free. Murphy tells them there is one more surprise - today is the dedication of Chancellor Park, Katherine's place for now and for always.
As the reception begins, Paul steps away and reads his letter from Katherine. He looks up and smiles. Jack and Victor have a civil, but brief, exchange. Devon tells Neil and Lily that today has hit him harder than he expected. Nick suggests to Avery that the park would be the perfect spot for them to get married. She agrees and they kiss. Billy and Victoria appear. Avery tells Vikki they've found the location for the wedding. Paul gets two glasses of champagne and joins Christine. He says he just read Katherine's letter. Father Todd joins them. Paul asks Todd to read the letter to Christine. In it, Katherine urges Paul to marry Christine now. Paul gets down on one knee and proposes. She accepts. Everyone applauds. Danny wishes them all the happiness in the world. Jill congratulates them. "We should turn this memorial into a wedding!" Father Todd agrees with her. Everyone claps again - even Nina. Preparations begin. Christine borrows Gina's bracelet. Lily gives Chris a new pen with blue ink. Victoria supplies an antique handkerchief for the 'something old'. Michael arranges to get a marriage certificate and Paul asks him to be his best man. They embrace. Nina approaches Chris and with a nod lets her know she'll stand up for her. Everyone takes their places and the ceremony gets underway. Paul and Chris exchange personal vows in which they agree they are soul mates. Todd pronounces them husband and wife. They kiss.
Later, Paul and Christine receive congratulations and Todd tells Paul he has to get back to Michigan. He says Katherine would have loved all of this. They embrace. Todd leaves Paul with his bible. Everyone gradually makes their way out. Jill tells Lauren she doesn't want to leave the park. Lauren goes. Jill joins Nikki, who is sitting alone on a bench. They talk about how it was exquisite. They talk about what's next. Jill says Katherine left her an epic quest - she doesn't know what she's supposed to find. Nikki says she also left her a quest; she knows exactly what she's supposed to find, but isn't sure she's ready.
At the Chancellor house, Delia is excited to see Kevin arrive with Chloe. They hug. In the living room, Cane asks Murphy how he's doing. He says he was touched by all the love shown today. Devon asks if there is anything else Katherine had planned. Murphy says the reading of the will.
At the Chancellor estate, Jill tells a photo of Katherine, "I hope today makes you happy." Vikki and Billy arrive. Jill explains that Mackenzie isn't coming - she said she had personal issues going on. Chloe and Delia come down the stairs. Victoria compliments Delia on her invitations. Murphy is there. Billy asks why the memorial is at a park. Murphy says they'll find out later. Jill muses that she wanted a party. "Let's give the old girl what she asked for."
At the Chancellor estate, the gathered group continues to try to understand what's going on with the postcards. Victor muses that it seems like a dream vacation, which gives Jill an idea. Kevin joins them. Jill doesn't want to share her theory, she says Katherine will shed light on all of this. The lights suddenly come on. Jill says the places on the postcards are places Katherine wanted to visit before she died. Upset, Jill says Katherine's been closing out her bucket list. They debate if this means something ominous is happening. Murphy arrives. He asks where Neil is, and Lily says he's in London. Victor asks where Katherine is. Murphy says his wife won't be joining them. He talks about the trip being exhilarating and everything Katherine had hoped it would be. Jill asks where is she now? Murphy says he's getting to that. He describes all of the things Katherine did and how they spent time with Tucker in Hong Kong. Murphy then tells them that when the journey was over, Katherine died in her sleep in their hotel room that last night. Crying ensues. Murphy says she died with a smile on her face, adding that he's reached out to the family members who aren't in town and let them know what happened. Murphy explains that she knew she didn't have much time and decided to make the most of it. Jill hollers that she was selfish to the end. "How could you do this to us! To me..." They realize Katherine didn't want them all fretting over her, but Jill is still angry. She rails that Katherine robbed them of the chance to say goodbye. Murphy says that's not true - he'll let Katherine tell them herself. He produces a letter that Nikki is meant to read out. It says they should stop shedding tears, and that they will have a doozy of a party in her honor. Murphy says they must now take Katherine on her final journey. Murphy tells them to think about love when they think about Katherine; to think about life, not death. Champagne is passed around. They each flash to a memory of Katherine. Jill downs her entire glass and cries. They toast. "To Katherine."
At the Chancellor Mansion, Jill reflects on Katherine finally coming home. Thunder rumbles. Later, Jill welcomes Cane and Lily, who said they received an invitation. They chat about not hearing from Murphy and Katherine until now. Jill says it's unlike her to have avoided her messages. Esther appears. She has a postcard too. Jill wonders what is going on. Jill leaves a message on Katherine's phone. Chloe joins them. All of their postcards are from different global locations. Victor and Nikki arrive, along with Devon. They all speculate. Jill gets a call from Katherine's cellphone, but can't hear anything. Jill gets a chill, but no one else feels it. The power goes out. Jill gets another call - it's Murphy, who asks them to wait until he arrives. Victor asks, "What about Katherine?" They are puzzled. Jill asks to see the postcards. Victor says it seems like a dream trip. Jill gasps, "That's it! That's what this is about..."
Cane gets Katherine home and tells her to close her eyes. She opens them to Murphy, Esther, Chloe, and Kevin shouting, "Surprise!" Murphy wishes her a happy anniversary. Jill comes in complaining that she went to the hospital but Cane already picked her up. Jill wishes them a happy anniversary and they all have a toast. Katherine admits she was wrong - it was better to go through this with family. She doesn't know how she would have managed without Cane. Jill says she could have leaned on any one of them. Kay thanks Cane for stepping in at Chancellor. Jill downs her glass in one. Later, Murphy tells Kay he could marry her all over again - but without the drama. "If I lost ya'..." Kay says she plans to be there for quite a while. At the door, Jill tells Cane she loves him, but this really hurts her. Cane says it's Katherine's decision. "Work with me." Jill goes to talk to Kay. They discuss her decision. Katherine explains that Jill is fiercely confident - it's a double-edged sword. She needs someone more conservative, like she is, in that chair. Jill lets her know she'll work with Cane and urges her to rest. Katherine heads upstairs. Jill asks if she wants help. Katherine says she can manage. "Good night."
In the hospital, Lily is with Devon and they enter Katherine's room. She's out of surgery but not responding to Murphy and Jill. Devon tells Katherine everyone is there to say they love her, and want her to wake up. In the corridor, Lily and Cane discuss Katherine. Cane urges her to go to work. They embrace. Cane sees Murphy is agitated over Kay not waking up. He goes to call for a doctor and Jill asks him about a curious development at Chancellor. Cane tells her Katherine asked him to take over if she was incapacitated. Jill is angry. Devon hollers, "She's waking up." They go in. Katherine speaks weakly. Jill snaps, "Oh please." Kay asks, "You really want a piece of me?" They all laugh.
Katherine is complaining loudly to Cane in her hospital room when Jill and Murphy appear. She wonders how they found out. Cane grins. Jill says they just did, and tells Katherine to stop glaring at Cane for being loving. Murphy complains, "What if something had happened? I'm your husband." Katherine decides that Cane was right to tell them. She asks them to call Esther, Nina, Brock, and Devon. Murphy and Jill step out. Jill spots Nikki with Dr. Costner. Jill starts ranting - she thinks Nikki knew about Katherine before her. Realizing she's wrong, she tells Nikki what's happening. In her room, Katherine tells Cane if she ends up incapacitated she wants him to run Chancellor. He asks about Neil and Jill. Katherine needs him. He agrees. Later, Nikki visits Katherine. The others return - it's time for Katherine to go to the OR. They all say they love her. Katherine is wheeled out, yelling, "I love all of you!"
