We first met Devon Hamilton in 2004 while he was helping to build Victor Newman's Rec Center. Growing up in and out of foster homes, Devon's jagged attitude toward the Walnut Grove kids was at an all-time high! At first when Devon met Lily Winters, he acted as though he too was rich and attended a private school on the other side of town. However, after Lily realized the truth, Devon began to warm up to her by filling Lily in on his 'real' life.
After Lily found out that Devon was going to be kicked out of his current foster home, she persuaded her mother Dru - who had also grown up on the streets - to get involved. While Dru's husband Neil wasn't too keen on the idea, Dru and Lily believed in Devon and took him into their home on a temporary foster basis.
In time, Devon told them about his childhood, growing up with a mother on crack and a father who left him as a boy. With the help of the Winters, he learned to read, write and handle all the expectations of a normal everyday life. After Dru started to go through the channels to make Devon's stay permanent, his social worker found out that Neil wasn't on board and scheduled to have Devon sent to a boy's home. Not wanting to go, Devon ran away and was later found sleeping at the Rec Center by Victor Newman. Victor stayed there with Devon until Neil gave in and arrangements were made for the Winters to be his permanent foster parents.
Everything seemed to be going well for Devon until no one remembered his seventeenth birthday. Remembering back to when he was a kid, Devon skipped school and went to the zoo. After he hadn't shown up at home that night, Lily's friend Sierra told the Winters about it being Devon's birthday and his mention that his grandma used to take him to the zoo. Darkness had fallen at the zoo and Devon found that he had wandered into a lion's exhibit and was trapped! Luckily, Lily's Uncle Malcolm was able to save him and pulled him out in time.
However, after Devon went with Lily to get the Winters car, Lily lost control and hit Neil! Badly hurt and needing surgery, Devon was encompassed with deep guilt and blamed himself for the accident. In the end, Neil was fine and Devon was able to let go of his guilt.
Feeling grateful for his new life, Devon sought out his mother and found Yolanda strung out on crack. He tried his best to help her start a new life, even convinced the Winters to take her in for a bit, but in the end, no matter what Devon did or who he had become, was enough to tear his mother away from drugs.
After starting college, Devon came down with meningitis and lost his hearing. With the Winters support and his will to learn to make the best of it, Devon successful underwent surgery for cochlear implants and by the miracle of science is now able to hear! During the ordeal, the Winters made him their son by legally adopting Devon!
However, in December of 2006, Devon faced his most difficult test yet when he became the prime suspect in the Carmen Mesta murder!
Devon had to deal with the news that the daughter his Aunt Tyra has been raising as her own, is actually his half-sister - her mother is Yolanda as well. Devon helped his new sibling, Ana, deal with the truth about her parentage, and they collaborated on music together. Soon, Devon had another shock - Tyra wasn't his blood relation. He ended up cheating on Roxy with her, which also hurt Neil, who was dating her. Devon eventually reunited with Roxy, and is currently pursuing a career in music, having signed a contract with McCall Unlimited to work on an album with Noah Newman.

At Ian's suite, Mariah tears up saying that she's leaving town. Ian comforts her. They talk about her situation with Sharon and Nick. Ian tells her there's a reason she fit into that household so well. He declares it's time she knew the truth. Mariah says something about how Nick looked at her. Ian asks what she did. She tells him. He winces. Mariah goes on about hating Sharon. Ian thinks things can still work out. He believes Sharon loves her. He makes a heartfelt speech about how much Mariah has meant to him. In the dining room, Cane comments on Devon staring at his drink. He invites him to a family dinner. Devon's not up for it. Cane walks off and Hilary appears. She tells Devon she's there to see him. She prays every night Neil gets his sight back. They talk about how they'll manage over time if he never does. Devon almost wants to run, but he can't. Hilary says it was a dream, and now they're awake.
At Neil's place, he feels his way around and insists to Lily that he doesn't need help. There's a knock. Neil feels his way over. Jack and Kelly blow in. Jack goes on about work. Neil finally hollers that he can't see anything. Jack is stunned that no one told him. Neil is sure this is temporary. Jack agrees to keep him up to speed on work. Hilary and Devon enter. Neil thanks Devon for being a good son and giving Hilary a ride. Jack and Kelly accept an invitation to stay for dinner. Neil and Lily argue over his plan to keep the house he bought. He knocks the salad over and tensions run high. Kelly takes Lily for a walk to de-stress. Jack talks to Hilary about when he was told he'd never walk again. He urges her not to take Neil's frustration personally. Jack reassures Neil who explains that his other senses are picking up things - he can almost hear what people are thinking. Jack goes and Neil asks Devon and Hilary, "What's cooking with you two, huh?" Devon takes a call from Jill about Katherine's ceremony. Neil thinks they should go. Devon reminds him they've been keeping the news about his condition within the family. What does he want to do?
At Neil's apartment, Lily complains to Cane that the place is a deathtrap. Lily says she warned him Hilary would ruin his life and now she has. Outside, Neil, Devon and Hilary arrive. Neil talks about belonging at home in bed beside his wife. Hilary and Devon exchange a look. Once inside, Neil seems overwhelmed by everything. He wants to get his own glass of water and crashes into a table. He yells at Lily for moving it. He hollers about being treated like a child or an invalid. Cane straightens him out and they leave. Neil goes to the kitchen and Hilary and Devon whisper about their predicament. She has to be there for her husband. "I"m sorry, Devon." Devon goes. Neil rejoins Hilary and feels bad about his behavior. Hilary reassures him. They embrace and Hilary looks at a family photo.
At the Club, Ben tells Kelly he terminated his residency at the hospital today. They talk about Vikki's miscarriage scare. She wonders why he's not with her. He says she's with Billy now. Kelly gives him a pep talk about Victoria and urges him to fight for her. He deserves happiness. Up at the Dive Bar, Cane tells Lily to give Neil time to deal with his struggle. She worries he'll drink and is concerned about Hilary hurting him. By the Club bar, Nikki spots Devon and asks him to keep mum about her being at that bar the other night. Victor overhears part of the conversation and wonders what she's talking about. Devon covers by discussing Neil. Victor thinks Nikki seems anxious and reassures her.
