We first met Devon Hamilton in 2004 while he was helping to build Victor Newman's Rec Center. Growing up in and out of foster homes, Devon's jagged attitude toward the Walnut Grove kids was at an all-time high! At first when Devon met Lily Winters, he acted as though he too was rich and attended a private school on the other side of town. However, after Lily realized the truth, Devon began to warm up to her by filling Lily in on his 'real' life.
After Lily found out that Devon was going to be kicked out of his current foster home, she persuaded her mother Dru - who had also grown up on the streets - to get involved. While Dru's husband Neil wasn't too keen on the idea, Dru and Lily believed in Devon and took him into their home on a temporary foster basis.
In time, Devon told them about his childhood, growing up with a mother on crack and a father who left him as a boy. With the help of the Winters, he learned to read, write and handle all the expectations of a normal everyday life. After Dru started to go through the channels to make Devon's stay permanent, his social worker found out that Neil wasn't on board and scheduled to have Devon sent to a boy's home. Not wanting to go, Devon ran away and was later found sleeping at the Rec Center by Victor Newman. Victor stayed there with Devon until Neil gave in and arrangements were made for the Winters to be his permanent foster parents.
Everything seemed to be going well for Devon until no one remembered his seventeenth birthday. Remembering back to when he was a kid, Devon skipped school and went to the zoo. After he hadn't shown up at home that night, Lily's friend Sierra told the Winters about it being Devon's birthday and his mention that his grandma used to take him to the zoo. Darkness had fallen at the zoo and Devon found that he had wandered into a lion's exhibit and was trapped! Luckily, Lily's Uncle Malcolm was able to save him and pulled him out in time.
However, after Devon went with Lily to get the Winters car, Lily lost control and hit Neil! Badly hurt and needing surgery, Devon was encompassed with deep guilt and blamed himself for the accident. In the end, Neil was fine and Devon was able to let go of his guilt.
Feeling grateful for his new life, Devon sought out his mother and found Yolanda strung out on crack. He tried his best to help her start a new life, even convinced the Winters to take her in for a bit, but in the end, no matter what Devon did or who he had become, was enough to tear his mother away from drugs.
After starting college, Devon came down with meningitis and lost his hearing. With the Winters support and his will to learn to make the best of it, Devon successful underwent surgery for cochlear implants and by the miracle of science is now able to hear! During the ordeal, the Winters made him their son by legally adopting Devon!
However, in December of 2006, Devon faced his most difficult test yet when he became the prime suspect in the Carmen Mesta murder!
Devon had to deal with the news that the daughter his Aunt Tyra has been raising as her own, is actually his half-sister - her mother is Yolanda as well. Devon helped his new sibling, Ana, deal with the truth about her parentage, and they collaborated on music together. Soon, Devon had another shock - Tyra wasn't his blood relation. He ended up cheating on Roxy with her, which also hurt Neil, who was dating her. Devon eventually reunited with Roxy, and is currently pursuing a career in music, having signed a contract with McCall Unlimited to work on an album with Noah Newman.

At Jabot, Jack commends Hilary for her work in New York. She knows he sent her because Neil asked him to. Jack hopes she got perspective. Kelly bursts in. She demands that he choose. Hilary goes. Kelly and Jack talk about him introducing her to Phyllis as a friend. Kelly says there won't be a right time and Phyllis needs to know. Jack needs to figure out how. Kelly can't do this anymore. She demands he make a choice now. "Do you want to be with Phyllis, or do you want to be with me." Jack kisses her and pulls her to the sofa. Avery enters. Kelly kisses Jack and leaves. Avery insists he tell Phyllis about Kelly. She warns Phyllis is also gunning for Nick and Sharon's relationship. By the elevator, Devon stops Hilary and asks if she's pregnant. Hilary tells him there is no baby. They talk about being together. It's not possible because of Neil getting hurt. Devon suggests a compromise - they don't tell Neil, and they don't stop seeing each other. Hilary reminds him Cane knows. Devon says they'll have to convince him they're no longer involved.
At the Club, Cane asks why Lily's distracted. She tells him she thinks Hilary's pregnant. Neil appears. "Hilary's pregnant?" Cane warns this is how rumors start. Neil and Lily enthuse about Moses being a big brother. Cane blurts, "You can't have a baby with Hilary." They gape at him. He says he meant now might not be the best time - Neil recently asked Hilary for a divorce. Neil thanks Cane for his concern, but he sees things differently now. After, Lily worries to Neil that she spilled the beans about the pregnancy. Neil says Hil can still have her moment. "But I'll need your help." By the door, Cane stops Devon, who assures him Hilary's not pregnant - he just saw her, but won't see her again. Cane is skeptical. Devon swears he'll keep his distance. Cane warns next time, he'll tell Neil everything. Later, Kelly arrives and talks to Lily about confronting Jack. She beams. "What he and Phyllis had is in the past."
At the Club, Lily tells Devon that Hilary and Neil should be there soon. Devon makes an excuse. Lily wonders why he's avoiding them. They appear. Lily greets Neil and Hilary says she was hugely surprised when he showed up in New York. Lily and Neil step away. Hilary gives Devon his phone. Devon tells her their time together were the best days of his life. Neil tells Lily how much he loves Hilary. Lily's convinced she's good for him. She asks Hilary to join her for lunch. Neil joins Devon, who blows off his invitation to go for food. Neil talks about putting the family back together. Devon watches Hilary and Lily, who are chatting. Lily goes on about how great New York must have been for her and Neil. Hilary excuses herself. Lily goes over to Devon and Neil and asks what's wrong with Hilary. She reappears and says she needed fresh air. Lily acknowledges that Hilary's changed. Hilary and Neil leave. Devon tells Lily that was nice. Lily muses about Hilary running off to the bathroom during lunch and thinks she's pregnant.
