We first met Devon Hamilton in 2004 while he was helping to build Victor Newman's Rec Center. Growing up in and out of foster homes, Devon's jagged attitude toward the Walnut Grove kids was at an all-time high! At first when Devon met Lily Winters, he acted as though he too was rich and attended a private school on the other side of town. However, after Lily realized the truth, Devon began to warm up to her by filling Lily in on his 'real' life.
After Lily found out that Devon was going to be kicked out of his current foster home, she persuaded her mother Dru - who had also grown up on the streets - to get involved. While Dru's husband Neil wasn't too keen on the idea, Dru and Lily believed in Devon and took him into their home on a temporary foster basis.
In time, Devon told them about his childhood, growing up with a mother on crack and a father who left him as a boy. With the help of the Winters, he learned to read, write and handle all the expectations of a normal everyday life. After Dru started to go through the channels to make Devon's stay permanent, his social worker found out that Neil wasn't on board and scheduled to have Devon sent to a boy's home. Not wanting to go, Devon ran away and was later found sleeping at the Rec Center by Victor Newman. Victor stayed there with Devon until Neil gave in and arrangements were made for the Winters to be his permanent foster parents.
Everything seemed to be going well for Devon until no one remembered his seventeenth birthday. Remembering back to when he was a kid, Devon skipped school and went to the zoo. After he hadn't shown up at home that night, Lily's friend Sierra told the Winters about it being Devon's birthday and his mention that his grandma used to take him to the zoo. Darkness had fallen at the zoo and Devon found that he had wandered into a lion's exhibit and was trapped! Luckily, Lily's Uncle Malcolm was able to save him and pulled him out in time.
However, after Devon went with Lily to get the Winters car, Lily lost control and hit Neil! Badly hurt and needing surgery, Devon was encompassed with deep guilt and blamed himself for the accident. In the end, Neil was fine and Devon was able to let go of his guilt.
Feeling grateful for his new life, Devon sought out his mother and found Yolanda strung out on crack. He tried his best to help her start a new life, even convinced the Winters to take her in for a bit, but in the end, no matter what Devon did or who he had become, was enough to tear his mother away from drugs.
After starting college, Devon came down with meningitis and lost his hearing. With the Winters support and his will to learn to make the best of it, Devon successful underwent surgery for cochlear implants and by the miracle of science is now able to hear! During the ordeal, the Winters made him their son by legally adopting Devon!
However, in December of 2006, Devon faced his most difficult test yet when he became the prime suspect in the Carmen Mesta murder!
Devon had to deal with the news that the daughter his Aunt Tyra has been raising as her own, is actually his half-sister - her mother is Yolanda as well. Devon helped his new sibling, Ana, deal with the truth about her parentage, and they collaborated on music together. Soon, Devon had another shock - Tyra wasn't his blood relation. He ended up cheating on Roxy with her, which also hurt Neil, who was dating her. Devon eventually reunited with Roxy, and is currently pursuing a career in music, having signed a contract with McCall Unlimited to work on an album with Noah Newman.

At the Club, Ben confronts Kelly about being back at work so soon. They discuss Jack and Phyllis. Paul arrives and asks for a moment with Kelly. He knows about the poisoning from the hospital and won't let this go. He questions her. Kelly says it's her word against Phyllis'. Paul wonders why she's not afraid. Kelly says she's afraid for Phyllis...and for Jack. Nearby, Jill wants to know where Colin got all the cash. Cane, Devon and Lily join the conversation. Devon prompts Colin to tell everyone where he got the money. Colin says the deal is delicate as they all press him. Lily still wants to know how Devon's money is tied up. Devon says his money is committed to another venture. Jill heads off to see Victor. Cane corners Devon and asks if he gave Colin his money. "Does he know about you and Hilary?" Devon says there's nothing to know. Cane approaches Colin and wants answers. Colin swears the deal is legitimate. He tells Cane he deserves Chancellor and he's going to have it.
At home, Neil tells Hilary he's hurt that she's crying. "Talk to me. What is it that I don't know?" She assures him it's not about having a baby - she feels bad about going to the spa. Neil asks her not to coddle him. He tells her about the vision restoration trial - it's a long shot. Hilary is excited. Neil doesn't want her hopes up, but admits he saw something. Hilary hugs him. He tells her he wants to go to his appointment alone. Later, Devon arrives and Hilary fills him in on Neil's news. They talk about being able to tell him the truth. Hilary worries Neil already senses something deep down. They agree to face him and the consequences together. Devon can't wait to let the world know he loves her. They are embracing when Neil returns. Devon tells him he knows about the new program. Neil goes on about trust and having one hell of a life with Hilary.
In Chicago, while Hilary gets ready to go on the town, Devon reads a cryptic text from Colin. He tells Hilary something came up. She gets him to show her the text. They decide to call him together.
In the park, Joe pays off his goon for calling Dylan and tells him, "You know what's next." Later, Colin meets Devon, who reminds him they're family. He warns if he drops this bomb, they'll shoot the messenger and he'll never be allowed around his grandkids again. Colin won't be deterred. Devon asks him to leave them in peace. Colin says he's on their side; he kept their secret. Devon snaps that he'd give away all his money if Neil could be protected. Colin still wants the money.
Avery bursts into Joe's suite. "This has gone far enough. We're going to settle this right now or someone's going to get killed." Avery asks what he wants. Joe says she knows. Avery says he can't have her; her heart is with Dylan. Joe wants one night. Dylan bursts in looking homicidal. Downstairs, Cane asks Devon if he's truly done with Hilary because Neil was about to go surprise her. Devon is cut off by Lily, who wonders if Cane asked him the big question. "Are you going to give us the money to buy Chancellor?" Devon stammers that his money's tied up. Nearby, Colin reveals a platter of cash to Jill.
