We first met Devon Hamilton in 2004 while he was helping to build Victor Newman's Rec Center. Growing up in and out of foster homes, Devon's jagged attitude toward the Walnut Grove kids was at an all-time high! At first when Devon met Lily Winters, he acted as though he too was rich and attended a private school on the other side of town. However, after Lily realized the truth, Devon began to warm up to her by filling Lily in on his 'real' life.
After Lily found out that Devon was going to be kicked out of his current foster home, she persuaded her mother Dru - who had also grown up on the streets - to get involved. While Dru's husband Neil wasn't too keen on the idea, Dru and Lily believed in Devon and took him into their home on a temporary foster basis.
In time, Devon told them about his childhood, growing up with a mother on crack and a father who left him as a boy. With the help of the Winters, he learned to read, write and handle all the expectations of a normal everyday life. After Dru started to go through the channels to make Devon's stay permanent, his social worker found out that Neil wasn't on board and scheduled to have Devon sent to a boy's home. Not wanting to go, Devon ran away and was later found sleeping at the Rec Center by Victor Newman. Victor stayed there with Devon until Neil gave in and arrangements were made for the Winters to be his permanent foster parents.
Everything seemed to be going well for Devon until no one remembered his seventeenth birthday. Remembering back to when he was a kid, Devon skipped school and went to the zoo. After he hadn't shown up at home that night, Lily's friend Sierra told the Winters about it being Devon's birthday and his mention that his grandma used to take him to the zoo. Darkness had fallen at the zoo and Devon found that he had wandered into a lion's exhibit and was trapped! Luckily, Lily's Uncle Malcolm was able to save him and pulled him out in time.
However, after Devon went with Lily to get the Winters car, Lily lost control and hit Neil! Badly hurt and needing surgery, Devon was encompassed with deep guilt and blamed himself for the accident. In the end, Neil was fine and Devon was able to let go of his guilt.
Feeling grateful for his new life, Devon sought out his mother and found Yolanda strung out on crack. He tried his best to help her start a new life, even convinced the Winters to take her in for a bit, but in the end, no matter what Devon did or who he had become, was enough to tear his mother away from drugs.
After starting college, Devon came down with meningitis and lost his hearing. With the Winters support and his will to learn to make the best of it, Devon successful underwent surgery for cochlear implants and by the miracle of science is now able to hear! During the ordeal, the Winters made him their son by legally adopting Devon!
However, in December of 2006, Devon faced his most difficult test yet when he became the prime suspect in the Carmen Mesta murder!
Devon had to deal with the news that the daughter his Aunt Tyra has been raising as her own, is actually his half-sister - her mother is Yolanda as well. Devon helped his new sibling, Ana, deal with the truth about her parentage, and they collaborated on music together. Soon, Devon had another shock - Tyra wasn't his blood relation. He ended up cheating on Roxy with her, which also hurt Neil, who was dating her. Devon eventually reunited with Roxy, and is currently pursuing a career in music, having signed a contract with McCall Unlimited to work on an album with Noah Newman.

At the Club, Devon and Hilary cross paths in the corridor. He grabs her but she wants him to let go - they had an agreement. Hilary says if Neil's blindness is permanent, they'll never be together. Devon strokes her cheek and they kiss. Hilary slaps him and they kiss more as Devon pulls her into a suite. They undress and make love. After, they bask in the afterglow and kiss. Hilary gets a message from Neil, who needs her at home. At the Dive Bar, Billy runs into Chelsea. She says there's something they need to talk about. Billy teases her about their phone call the other night. A shirtless guy stops by the table. Chelsea tells him she'll meet him in the suite. When Billy acts jealous, Chelsea admits he's her new assistant. Billy feels foolish and worries about things getting weird between them. Chelsea insists she has her head on straight when it comes to him. Her assistant calls her away. Later, Chelsea returns. Billy grumbles about 'what's-his-abs'. Chelsea tells Billy they are both single - she votes for trying this out. Billy agrees that he wants to see where this is going to go. They kiss as Victoria appears. Downstairs, Lily spots Devon and tells him Neil is finally ready to accept help. Devon knows exactly what he has to do.
At the Club, Lily tells Devon she's hopeful Malcolm will get through to Neil. Devon feels that no one will succeed until Neil's ready.
At the Club, Sharon and Hilary discuss Mariah and then talk about Neil refusing to accept help. Hilary mentions Malcolm's arrival. Sharon says they have a history, but family's family. She encourages Hilary to take time for herself and have a life. Hilary looks over at Devon as she says Neil is her life now. Devon joins them and they discuss Malcolm helping Neil. Lily appears. She asks Devon to listen and thanks Hilary. Lily tells Hilary she believed all she was capable of was hurting people, but it's obvious she loves Neil and she's glad he has her to count on.
At Neil's place, he wonders if Malcolm plans to wrestle him to the floor to get him to admit he's scared. Malcolm doesn't want to wrestle a blind man. He says part of being strong is not being afraid to admit you're scared. Neil talks about the black hole he's living in and the things he's worried about. Malcolm urges him to say it. Neil cries. "I'm scared." He sobs about being afraid he'll never see again. Malcolm says he has a long road ahead, he needs to face it head on. Neil thinks he can beat this with Malcolm and a whole lot of other people supporting him. They embrace. Later, Malcolm and Neil are listening to jazz when Hilary, Lily, and Devon arrive. Neil apologizes for pushing them away. He thanks Malcolm, who hugs Hilary and then Lily. He asks Devon about Hilary. He says she's a great woman who wants to do right by Neil. Malcolm encourages them to help Neil and says his goodbyes. "Love you."
