We first met Devon Hamilton in 2004 while he was helping to build Victor Newman's Rec Center. Growing up in and out of foster homes, Devon's jagged attitude toward the Walnut Grove kids was at an all-time high! At first when Devon met Lily Winters, he acted as though he too was rich and attended a private school on the other side of town. However, after Lily realized the truth, Devon began to warm up to her by filling Lily in on his 'real' life.
After Lily found out that Devon was going to be kicked out of his current foster home, she persuaded her mother Dru - who had also grown up on the streets - to get involved. While Dru's husband Neil wasn't too keen on the idea, Dru and Lily believed in Devon and took him into their home on a temporary foster basis.
In time, Devon told them about his childhood, growing up with a mother on crack and a father who left him as a boy. With the help of the Winters, he learned to read, write and handle all the expectations of a normal everyday life. After Dru started to go through the channels to make Devon's stay permanent, his social worker found out that Neil wasn't on board and scheduled to have Devon sent to a boy's home. Not wanting to go, Devon ran away and was later found sleeping at the Rec Center by Victor Newman. Victor stayed there with Devon until Neil gave in and arrangements were made for the Winters to be his permanent foster parents.
Everything seemed to be going well for Devon until no one remembered his seventeenth birthday. Remembering back to when he was a kid, Devon skipped school and went to the zoo. After he hadn't shown up at home that night, Lily's friend Sierra told the Winters about it being Devon's birthday and his mention that his grandma used to take him to the zoo. Darkness had fallen at the zoo and Devon found that he had wandered into a lion's exhibit and was trapped! Luckily, Lily's Uncle Malcolm was able to save him and pulled him out in time.
However, after Devon went with Lily to get the Winters car, Lily lost control and hit Neil! Badly hurt and needing surgery, Devon was encompassed with deep guilt and blamed himself for the accident. In the end, Neil was fine and Devon was able to let go of his guilt.
Feeling grateful for his new life, Devon sought out his mother and found Yolanda strung out on crack. He tried his best to help her start a new life, even convinced the Winters to take her in for a bit, but in the end, no matter what Devon did or who he had become, was enough to tear his mother away from drugs.
After starting college, Devon came down with meningitis and lost his hearing. With the Winters support and his will to learn to make the best of it, Devon successful underwent surgery for cochlear implants and by the miracle of science is now able to hear! During the ordeal, the Winters made him their son by legally adopting Devon!
However, in December of 2006, Devon faced his most difficult test yet when he became the prime suspect in the Carmen Mesta murder!
Devon had to deal with the news that the daughter his Aunt Tyra has been raising as her own, is actually his half-sister - her mother is Yolanda as well. Devon helped his new sibling, Ana, deal with the truth about her parentage, and they collaborated on music together. Soon, Devon had another shock - Tyra wasn't his blood relation. He ended up cheating on Roxy with her, which also hurt Neil, who was dating her. Devon eventually reunited with Roxy, and is currently pursuing a career in music, having signed a contract with McCall Unlimited to work on an album with Noah Newman.

At the Club, Neil apologizes to Gwen, now that they realize she was used too. Neil says Hilary also used Devon. Hilary and Devon appear on the stairs. Devon takes Neil aside. He says it's not what it looked like with Hilary and he doesn't want to take steps back. Neil says he'll be working closely with Gwen - and Hilary - at Jabot.
At Crimson Lights, Hilary asks Devon, "Do you still love me?" He wonders why it matters. She can't lose him forever. Devon would have given anything to hear her say that after the plane crash - she's changing her story again. Hilary says she was trying to fix things. Devon can't ignore that she slept with Mobley. Hilary tries to explain herself. She wonders if there's some small chance they could find their way back to each other. Devon says the act she put on worked like a charm. At the Club, Lily and Cane kiss. They talk about dinner together later. Jill and Colin appear. Jill muses that Lauren is working Cane to the bone. They discuss the hectic retail business. Jill wonders if it's enough for Cane, who says he couldn't be happier. Lauren and Michael arrive. Lauren asks Cane about a dinner meeting. Cane has plans with Lily. Michael thinks he should be there. Lily agrees. At their table, Lauren complains that Cane wants to spend time with his wife - unlike Michael. She says being Sharon's guardian has allowed him to avoid her and his oncologist. She urges him to reschedule his appointment. "You look like hell, Michael." She's sure he's holding something back. Michael snaps, "I have a big case!" Colin and Jill look over as he yells at Lauren. Cane interrupts. Lauren tells him they should work and stalks off. Jill joins Michael to question him about his treatment of Lauren. She wants to know why he's pushing her away. He uses the case as an excuse. Jill wants to cut through the bull. "What is going through that head of yours?" He says he needs space to come to terms with what he's going through. Jill understands but questions why he can't explain that to Lauren. Michael says he owes her an apology. Colin joins Lily at the bar. He thinks she's upset about Cane canceling plans. He warns her not to let anyone interfere while they're getting back on solid ground. They discuss Lauren, who has cheated before and is out of sync with Michael. "Keep a close eye on your husband," he advises. Colin rejoins Jill and they discuss Cane and Lauren. They wonder if Michael is pushing her into Cane's arms. Jill says that would be crazy. Upstairs, Devon opens his door to Hilary who didn't like how they parted - she won't let things end like that. Devon says they can't go back. She wants to at least be friends; he's the love of her life.
