I would not miss Victor at all. He has become one dimensional, doing the same thing over and over. He is boring and old and tiresome. New blood might revive the show; Victor will not and cannot help the show anymore. |

Victor Newman is a fiction character. I would hate to see Eric Braden loose his job. He is Y&R! Without his character on the show, there would be a huge void and the show would not have the same meaning to it. Eric Braden has made Victor Newman the Sean Connery of daytime! I saw this lady at the Emmy awards that went crazy when she met Eric Braden that evening. Women adore Victor and most women, like my mother, watch this show just to see Victor Newman! Gold Lief - You are so right. The ONLY reason my mother watches YR is Eric Braeden, her "handsome German." She has adored him since he starred "Rat Patrol" in the mid-60's. My late Daddy used to tell her "Your Handsome German is coming on" every week when the show aired. I don't think Sony or the Exec's at YR are dumb enough to let EB go. The show would not be the same without him. So, I'm taking this rumor with a HUGE grain of salt. I won't believe EB has been let go until I hear and/or see an official announcement from Sony and YR. Sony wanted to let him go before but MAB refused to go along. JFP was brought to Y&R to clean house and EB was at the top of list. If this show looses Eric Braden, they just as soon cancel it. Surely, they must know that. The age group that he brings to the show is not going anywhere, they are loyal fans. Y&R can't afford to loose that age group. If they are going to make the show younger, they will be cancelled before the end of next year. That age group is busy and don't have time to watch daytime soaps. The people who watch to see Eric Braden are loyal, long time fans, they stay. If they go, this show is over. I totally agree, Gold Lief. As I said, EB is the ONLY reason my mother watches the show; and, I'm sure there are tons of folks who only watch because of him as well. Kind of makes me wonder if Sony is going to get rid of YR the way ABC/Disney got rid AMC and OLTL, and that's the reason MAB, SH and HS were let go. Could the new regime have been put there to make sure YR falters even more so that it will end up being cancelled? Hate to say it, but I haven't had a good feeling since MAB and her crew were fired. Guess we'll find out if this rumor about EB is true soon enough. I really hope it's not. I always knew the reason my g/mother, mom and aunts watch this show was for EB, Victor Newman. I have come to fall in love with the man myself. I hate the new regime, they do nothing for me, they all come off like a bunch of spoiled brats. Even my g/father who thinks soaps are garbage, loves EB or the mustash like he loves to call him. His brilliance and his business sence is on canning. The only thing that go me mad was him being paired with SC. Thanks to MAB madness. |

Victor has certainly served his purpose for many years.. but like all good things.... they have to come to an end. I don't think he needs to be gone completely.. but instead be around to guide the 2nd generation.. but his romantic days are long over.. |

From what I have read and seen interviews about EB, he will not settle for less money .. he wants the big bucks.. so if it gets down to budget cuts.. he will walk.. He will leave a huge hole. But I agree, I have missed John Abott immensely.. but the show has gone on. Maybe they need to recast Tucker with a more powerful, strong actor.. who could be the cunning, ruthless billionaire.. The show needs a Victor Newman type.. EB is not the ONLY actor who can play that part.. for the first bolded part of your post, should they want to get rid of the current actor who plays tucker, i would ASSUME that maybe JFP would bring in kale brown as the new tucker as he is a FOJ. he is also the right age as he was also born in 1950, same as stephen nichols i think.. as to who they could recast victor with? have no idea. maybe they could just pull him out for the odd wedding, graduation, christmas party etc..
