I'll start my post by agreeing totally with the OP that children should not be watching violence & sex. And I agree that soaps should be in that catagory, because they have always shown violence & sex on them. Most soaps come on during the daytime, and during that time, most children are in school during the school seasons. I remember when I was young, my mom would send me to play in my room or Nick Jr. would be on another tv for me to watch while her soaps were on. During the summer I might have caught a peice of something here & there, but mostly my mom didn't let me watch any of it until I got older.

That is where I differ with the OP. My mom was in charge of what I watched as a kid, not the network. The networks are going to assume that as a parent, you are keeping your kids away from them. I can't say whether I've seen or heard a warning before them, but from as young as I can remember, I've known that soaps are for adults.

I also honestly just don't find what happened Friday all that violent. It was actually some of the best I've seen! They've done way more violent stuff on pretty much every soap I've ever watched, & going back way longer than today! They did a demonic possesion on DAYS & did a s/l of a serial killer going around killing hookers. On Y&R, they've done everything from killing the guy in the garbage compactor, a guy torturing someone & feeding him rats, people being locked in boxes & tortured, they've had several rapes, Diane was bashed in the head with a rock...And what Adam did to Ashley with the miscarriage, well if you thought this was violent, I'm not even going to go into the details of that one!

I don't know what kind of stuff they did on AMC because I've never watched that one, but every soap I've ever watched for the last 20 years have had similar story lines to this. I'd say if you feel like it's too violent, Y&R might not be the soap for you, because this was kind of tame for a murder/death story to some of the ones they've done in the past. Hate to see that you didn't enjoy it though, because the acting for this story was by far some of the best we've had in a while!
