Morning all, another day, another ouch.

Things are going ok here, I am managing the horses by myself, and I have them back on two feeds a day. With one horse I have to lift the bucket through the fence to empty it...which hurts me, but when the horse dives into the food and then shoves her mouth at me for a very 'mashy' kiss...it makes it all worth while.

Blue....Grammapam is threatening to boot me up the bum!

Well be careful my tough little buddy. I don't know how you do it.I am resting up just from having to clean & cook. At least the frig is full so I didnt have to cook tonight. I will tell Pammie no boots to the posterior for at least a week.

    You are a wonder woman.

Not me. I am just a whiney old bag. Look at Wombat. They cugt out half her lung & she is back toting buckets of feed 4 days later!
I did saw a big broken limb off a pecan tree with a ruptured disk so I could get the car out of the drive, though. I stood ramrod straight & used just the muscle in my arm to saw. When I got tired I would rest for a minute, then switch hands for a while. Big hand saw.(I was the one with the ruptured disk, not the pecan tree.lol)
Sorry for mistakes. Having to use laptop & it is miserable. Good night all.

Good morning all. I bought some pink marking tape.I am going to write the daylily crosses I plan to make today on pieces of the tape with indelible marker & tie them around the scapes of the blossoms I pollinate. If I watch closely, maybe I can harvest them into into individual little envelopes. As soon as they dry & get a bit of chilling, I am going to start them in little peat pots with markers in each pot. Maybe for the first tme ever, I will actually know what the results of my efforts are so I can try the prettiest crosses again. I have tried other methods but they never worked. One year I had a bunch of labeled cups & jars with the seeds soaking in water with a little peroxide to help them sprout. As soon as they have roots, you plant them in little pots. I had them sitting in the bathtub in the master bedroom in my house b/c it has a big skylight. One of my daughter's cats got in there & turned over every single one of the cups & jars. I went over there & seeds, some of them half sprouted, were lying all over the surface of the tub. My yield that year was very small & very anonymous. I do better when I just seed them directly into the garden with the beans to shade them & protect them from weeds & being stepped on by garden kritters. Most of the seeds perish but I usually have over 100 daylily plants per row & it takes over 2 years to get the first bloom but it is so exciting to see what I get. My first big crop bloomed
the year I was getting radiation at Duke. I had taken a hotel room near the hospital but I just could not stand missing the first bloom on so many daylilies that week so I gave up the room & commuted the 80 or so miles per day & had my morning session at Duke, then ate lunch & went to the genealogical library & made notes on ancestors until time for the afternoon session. It was not painful but it was very uncomfortable. They had made a foam cast of my body to keep me postitioned the same & I had to lie in that plastic cast, still as a mouse for about an hour while they rotated the table from one position to the next to zap me. It was July & so hot & I always got leg cramps & I always needed to pee before they finished & they would not even let me talk. I just had to lie there & sweat.
But, I got to see the rest of those lilies & I was thrilled with most of them. A few are not keepers but here it is 4 years later & I have not removed them yet. There are a lot of lavenders & pinks in there & some of them have very pretty, glittery edges. Most of them have eyes zones & there are a lot of very tall ones. One is a yellow & white spider that must be 10-14 inches across if the petals were lightly stretched out. There are some short ones too, about ankle high. I should at least weed them out. It is so hard for a mother to choose between her children though. Maybe I could move the short ones to the border out front, at least the terribly pretty ones. Some of the early color break thrus were very short & they were bred so extensively that a lot of modern daylilies have that short gene. I am breeding mine to be waist high at least & would be glad if they were even taller. When Brian Mahieu was doing a lot of breeding, he had some that were over 7 feet tall.
Left you some coffee & scones.

Blue, I always love your stories!!! I am waiting to see which daylilies I have left. The dogs ruined most of the signs so I have no idea anymore which ones I have.
If I do get a "Burning Embers" I will email you a pic. That one I do remember!

Mars got his first call yesterday for donating blood. We charged off to the vet as a dog was badly injured and needed a transfusion. Unfortunately, the poor guy didn't make it. Mars was still heavily sedated when I went back to pick him up and was crashing around in the waiting room like a tranquilized moose. He's back to his normal self this morning but he was pretty out of it most of the evening.

I'm off to visit my mother again. The paperwork is now done and we are simply waiting for the call. She's getting bored sitting in her hospital room so it will be great to get her into a home where she can get involved in a few activities. She looks very good though and never ceases to amaze me.

Another hot one today. We have high humidity and heat warnings. Yuck...this kind of weather makes me feel so tired and out of sorts.

I know Wombat is a one woman wonder.
My oldest brother had the bottom lobe of his lung removed,he was not out feeding horses the following week, but he did live an extra 25 years.

I wish I could get to the FHL Blue,I have a lot to do.

I have set a goal for myself with my late husbands family roots.I want my children and grandchildren to know where and when their ancestors arrived in Canada.I have only 2 remaining with a question mark.Once I have that information the rest is up to them, the Loyalist have an interesting history.

I know where to find my own family history so they will be well armed, going forward.

I had fun with it last week. I found the pediatrician who saved my brother when he was 5. He is blood kin to us & his line (Sidbury) traces back to the 1700s in the same county as ours. I am up to 15,200 but feel too guilty to work on it this week, even tho a distant cousin sent me an autograph album from the late 1800's (online) that is so cool. The language was so stilted & emotional.
I have to get my house ready to have the walls repainted & the carpet stripped out & Mama & I have to go to her family reunion & they want pix from me by Friday!!

I am sooo glad your mom is doing so much better and that you have found such a nice place for her. If I get too old & sick to live at home, I hope I can live somewhere that (1) there is bridge & I can find a partner who is not too whacked out for us to win most of the hands and (2) there is garden space for us old geezers.
So Mars is a blood donor? Do dogs have blood types or is theirs universal?
