Quote Blue 501: Today was nice here too. I pollinated some of the last of the daylilies. Lots of pinks today, nearly all of them with "nice edges"(hooks, globules, metallic glitter). It was finally cool enough for me to make some labels so I can tell what they are when the pods are ripe. One of the pinks is really pale & delicate looking with a darker pink eye zone. Reminds me of an old fashioned embroidered baptiste handkerchief. I bred every tetraploid today with Darla Anita (a pink & gold with an extreme edge). I have not made anything different enough to market yet but most of my "babies" are very pretty!
Today is my husband's "second" birthday. TPTB misread his passport & made him a month younger. I forgot his first one so I am going to take him out to dinner. B/c of the difference in calendars (Gregorian vs Julian?) he also gets two Christmases,New Years, & Easters.

Hi Blue! Wow your hubby is sure a lucky fellow! Two of everything nice! I hope his birthday was very happy.Your flowers always sound so lovely.Wish we could do pictures on here,I would love to see them.Hope you have a wonderful blessed day.Talk later my friend!

Hi Pixie. I hope you had time for a blueberry muffin & a cup of coffee. I had the house to myself much of the morning. My daughter is pet sitting this week and she has the baby with her. When he is home I spend most of my time grabbing the remotes & keyboards. He is 17 months now & is pretty fast & wants to click every button & take things apart. He is either going to be a scientist or a demolition expert (lol). He is getting very leggy & toothy now & kind of cranky with molars & canines coming thru at the same time. Still so pretty though & charming & sweet when his mouth is not bothering him. My daughter gives him a little pediatric ibuprofen 2 or 3 times a day & it seems to help.
The daylilies are winding down now but a yellow UFO that is about 12 inches across is blooming out front. It's called "Look Here Mary!" & I will never forget it b/c when I set it out, it turned out there was a snake in the dirt it was in. I had been on the road for over an hour with a snake in the back seat. (Yikes) I am going to go feed it & pollinate it before the pollen all drys up.
    Have a nice afternoon everyone.

    OMG Blue 501!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't imagine it!!!!!!! How big/ long was that darn critter and what colors???????

I have been tryin to decide what to plant in my outdoors planters around my front doors and patios. I've been concerned about the plants attracting wildlife or insects; Never would I have considered a reptile may burrow its way inside a potted plant !!!!!!!!

So glad you are OK and none of the grandchildren were in the back seat....count our Blessings.

I think it was just a black snake.I only saw the tail disappearing as I set the clump of dirt with the daylily into the hole (with my bare hands). There is a time I would have freaked out but when my daughter was little, I had to pretend not to be afraid of snakes to keep her from teasing me with them. I did that by touching a couple of them (safely held by someone else. One was a red & black corn snake. Very pretty & behaved quite well). Nevertheless, I would have gone crazy if that snake (whatever he was) had crawled out of the dirt while I was speeding along the beltline and into my lap. My mother was dressing fish one time at a table in the back yard & thought a kitten was playing around her ankles & it was a Copperhead. She stayed very still until it crawled off her.

OMG! Blue your mom is a very strong woman. But thank the Lord she had the presence and strength to do that as copperheads are extremly poisonous.

I have never heard of anyone being killed by a Copperhead but they can make you really sick. One of my little cousins was bitten on the face & a finger (I think she picked it up) and ended up losing the finger. And yes, my Mama was tough. She was like a pioneer woman. She is 98 now and still hanging in there. She was born in 1915 & her mother was born in 1895 & sometimes got chased up a tree by long horned cattle when walking to school.

Welcome Terri and make yourself right at home.Lots of great posters in here and wonderful and interesting chit chat going on.Nice to have you here and do post often!!!

Thanks for the warm welcome PixiePower!

Your screen name reminds me of a favorite game at my local casino. You pull the reels and the images of pixie fairies in various colors appear. Game pays if you get three or more matching fairies in line left to right ; HOWEVER, if the pixie fairy shows up on any reel, then the pixie fairy changes all other fairies to the same color which could lead to bigger payouts.

It's a fun game. Would you like to share why you chose pixie power as your screen name? If so, I'm all ears - sipping my Peach flavored Go Girl! energy drink and nibbling on slices of a plum.

That sounds like fun. I have never been to a casino but used to play cards for money when I was in college. (and won at Blackjack but lost at poker b/c my face betrays a good hand). I was the reigning women's pin ball champion for a while too & won money at that but a girl called "Spot" took my crown. Younger & faster reflexes. lol.

Teri, that sounds like my kind of game.I think it would be fun and I would be hoping for that one pixie to show her cute little face lol There is really no story behind my name. At the time I had a little Pommy and her name was Pixie. And my then 5 year old grand-daughter loved Tinkerbell and anything to do with pixies and fairies.I have always loved them too and have lots of refrigerator magnets, dish towels, candles etc of them.I have all the Disney movies of Peter Pan and Tinkerbell too.So I just decided on Pixie.I added the power because they do have powers.lol So just a love for all things pixies I guess!

Next time I am "gaming" I will think of you and "PixiePower!!!" May the luck of the pixie fairies be with me - pull the reels - Game On!!!

Wow!!!!!! I have a pair of gardening gloves and many times I do not wear them when working outdoor - I think oh this task is simple, I do not see anything objectionable...this just goes to show that even though you don't see a critter, they can be where you least expect them to be...so glad you saw the tail and not the head....

I am intrigued by the old style english (ie: dirtie; buetie; queene; flowre; dauncing etc)used in this poem. 100 years from now, I wonder how people will view our "120 character" abbreviated online text/tweets or emails/posts etc...

I love English history and literature too. I have just a touch of an old English accent from growing up on the Carolina coast. Most people do not notice but a linguist once nailed me from across a room when he heard me talking. My father had it much stronger. "My boat" was "me bote". I hate to see it die away. The accent is from English settlers of the 1600's. We still have some words found nowhere else in the US too, like "mommick" for ?mess up".

Since we have company today, I left a pot of Kenyan coffee and a platter of blueberry muffins frosted with lavender icing (color & flavor-we have a big clump of lavender growing in our little garden)
