We will be seeing a lot less of Matt Davis (Alaric) on "The Vampire Diaries." The actor has been cast as the lead in a new pilot called, "Cult." Built around a show within a show, "Cult" will track mysterious disappearances linked to a television show called, "Cult." Davis will play the role of Jeff, a blogger searching for his missing brother, a disappearance that is likely connected with the sinister TV series. The show is being produced by the CW and some of the people behind "Gossip Girl."

The series will also star Jessica Lucas ("Melrose Place"), Robert Knepper ("Prison Break") and Alona Tal ("Supernatural"). According to Deadline, Davis will be returning to "VD" in future seasons as a guest player.
