Betty (America Ferrera)
has premiered with both critical and popular success. The show was originally to air on Friday nights but was moved to Thursday because of favorable feedback from advanced screenings. Success has been largely by word of mouth rather than the usual reliance on advertising. The debut was watched by 16.1 million viewers, making it the most successful new show of this season thus far. This has been the largest viewing share that an ABC program in its time slot has received in over a decade, giving the network hope of emerging strongly from a Thursday night slump. These ratings have also impressed because the show airs without an already successful show preceding it. It pulled in an impressive 6.2 rating, well ahead of the other networks. It also managed to capture the widely sought after 18-49 age demographic. All great news for the future of the show!
