Ronan remains silent in the alley as the police and Heather regard the rug as possible evidence in the Tim Reid death. Ronan informs them the stain is just wine and they toss it back in the dumpster. Heather's disappointed it wasn't a real lead. Ronan tells her they don't even know it's a homicide. Heather heads out.
At Crimson Lights, Kevin sarcastically tells Michael he's been selling encyclopedias in his free time. Not impressed, Michael asks where he was four nights ago. Chloe pipes up that he went to meet with Phyllis, but his car broke down so he came in late. Michael grills Kevin on details. Kevin lies. Michael doesn't buy it. He tells Kevin to come to his office.
On the patio, Lily and Daniel catch up about their kids and lives. They discuss Cane's tenuous relationship with his mother. Just then, Phyllis comes in. She pulls Daniel aside and asks if he's seen Ronan, and then takes off when he hasn't. Lily assures Daniel that Phyllis wants him to be happy. Daniel tells her about Heather. Lily thinks Phyllis has a point in not being okay with that. Daniel says he really likes her. Lily suggests he not tell his mother he's seeing her. Later, Heather shows up. She declines Daniel's invitation to go to his place, saying they may be laying more charges against his mother. Heather can't talk about it. They try to find another topic. The only common interest they have besides 'that', is art. They decide to meet at her place.
Jack is impressed with Cane's work report at Gloworm. He invites him to head up the marketing department. Cane whistles. Jack says he wants to crush the launch of Newman's new line. Cane says he'll start working on it. Cane suggests buying a block of Newman stock as well. Jack muses that Sharon might run the company into the ground - it's risky. Cane asks Jack about Genevieve. He says that's in the past - he wants to leave it there. Cane wishes he could too.
At the ranch, Sharon complains to Tucker about the Restless Style TV show. He says Abby can't hurt her. Sharon says she'll wish she hadn't tried. He tells her he's set up an interview for her with The Chronicle. She's nervous, but says, "Let's go."
At the ranch gate, the guard refuses to let Abby and Carmine onto the Newman property. He says it was Sharon's doing. When she learns Sharon gave her horses away she goes totally ballistic, threatening to rip every blonde hair from her head! Just then, Sharon pulls up with Tucker. Abby asks what she's done with her horses. Sharon grins that she donated them to a farm for disabled children and drives off. Abby shouts that her dad will send her to the glue factory!
At the police station, Kevin admits to Chloe that his car never broke down that night. Michael enters with Beth, who IDs him as the encyclopedia salesman. She goes ballistic and accuses him of killing Tim. Michael puts her out and tells Kevin it's time to come clean. Kevin won't. Michael says he gave him a chance - now he's going to find out what it's like without him on his side.
Phyllis finds Ronan at the basketball court and asks what he did with the rug. He says she's a suspect - they can't do this. She wants a little one-on-one. He doesn't think she realizes how high the stakes are, but agrees to talk if she makes a basket. She does. He lets her know she did the right thing by throwing out the rug with the wine stain. She goes. Michael turns up and awkwardly tries to play basketball. He fills Ronan in on Beth fingering Kevin as the encyclopedia salesman. Ronan suggests that Beth had Tim at her place and moved his body back to his apartment after his death. He says there is no evidence to the contrary, and Michael gets to decide.
Sharon and Tucker arrive at Gloworm. Sharon tells Jack that Tucker set up an interview with the Chronicle. He warns her to be careful with the press and Tucker. She tells him she knows what she's doing. After, Abby sweeps in and informs Jack she is buying Newman stock on her own. After, Jack questions Tucker about his motives for setting up the interview for Sharon. He throws it out that he hurt Ashley and didn't mean to as well. Tucker goes. Jack phones Cane and tells them there's a change of plans. Across the room, the reporter questions Sharon about Nick. She takes credit for landing the Mitsukoshi account. The man wonders if she's qualified to run Newman. She holds her own. Abby calls someone to buy up Newman stock - she's taking Sharon down. Cane returns to meet Jack, who tells him he'd bet his wheelchair Tucker is using Sharon to gain control of Newman Enterprises.
Cane tells Lily, at Crimson Lights, about his promotion. Lily admits she's still concerned about their unsolved mystery. Cane reassures her and leaves. A woman bumps into Lily and drops her key - it has a koala bear keychain. The woman grabs it and departs. On the patio, Chloe asks Kevin to tell her the truth. He takes a call from Phyllis telling him everything will be fine if he keeps his mouth shut. Kevin hangs up and tells Chloe that Tim's landlady is nuts. Chloe says if he's involved in a murder case, they have no future. Inside, Lily finds a business card that says 'Claude Shirl'.
