Week of October 8 – 12:
There was some excellent drama this week on "Y&R," though there was little in the way of romance or 'feel good' moments to balance things out. The new regime’s material debuted on Friday and brought a new, brisk feel to the scenes. Here’s what stood out:
Under the bus.
Genevieve and Sharon both testified against Tucker to the SEC, and it looked like his goose was well and truly cooked, yet somehow, by week’s end the charges has miraculously been dropped. Huh? Considering Sharon hadn’t yet recanted anything, and that she 'showed them the money' so to speak by outing his shell corporations, how on earth did charges not stick? In any case, it was worth it for that intense scene mid-week with Tucker yelling at Sharon, "You did this to me?" Chilling. Unfortunately, that angle wasn’t played out. Tucker, once free, showed up at Sharon’s house where they made nice with each other in a very watered-down scene.
Can’t look at you.
Sharon appears to have lost the esteem of her son, Noah, who can’t stand to lay eyes on her right now. I can buy that. I can also buy Summer having a 'hate on' for Phyllis after seeing her with Ronan. I find it interesting that long-time rivals Sharon and Phyllis are in the same position with their kids at the same time, and wonder if that beat will be played, even though they haven’t shared scenes in a while. As for Summer going off the deep-end, I think it would have been even better if she’d witnessed a kiss between Nick and Avery as well so that she got the whole picture – both her parents are prone to, ahem, acting out. She comes by it honestly.
Okay, that Fen just creeps me out! I can’t believe Summer kissed him after he gave her the oogly-eye and invited her to stay with him. Then he went and tattled on her – geek boy! How can this be Lauren’s son? Re-do.
The shady D.A.
Christine was on my last nerve going through the Tim Reid files and harping on Michael to do his job. However, she definitely had a point – Michael has been a mess as D.A., and it was satisfying to see it addressed. The scenes with Michael leaning on Kevin were riveting, though it was overkill to have Kevin compare Michael to Tom at the end. In any case, Kevin calling Michael out on the obvious conflicts involved with him being the D.A. was refreshing. Big added bonus – Kevin and Chloe are on the outs! Please let this trust issue be something they can’t get past.
Chelsea and Adam cooing over baby clothes had been terrible, but not so bad that I’d have wished them into a car wreck. However, that’s exactly what happened at week’s end, as a blubbering Summer appeared to drive into their path. It’s probably safe to assume that this will affect Chelsea’s pregnancy, and with Summer at fault, it will definitely make waves in the Adam versus The Newmans saga. Looking forward to the fallout!
Jack struck deals with Genevieve and Tucker, and bought Adam’s shares. Things are looking very promising for him to finally realize his ultimate dream. Of course, Jack always stumbles somehow, so it would be absolutely shocking if 'Abbott Enterprises' ever came to be. What could stop him? Perhaps Abby will be the wild card – remember she bought up all that Newman stock? No one seems to have clued in yet…hmm.
Ronan and Phyllis’ fake affair becoming real has made for some excellent scenes. Not only do they have amazing chemistry, but their affair also resulted in an epic argument between Nick and Phyllis. Hair-raising! Nick was within his rights to be upset about Summer having walked in on them, but as far as being outraged about Phyllis and Ronan, not so much. Nick left her, and is no stranger to cheating himself – heck, he went right over to Jimmy’s to put the moves on her sister, and had tried to put the moves on her prior to that at Crimson Lights! In any case, things were looking bad for Phyllis going into the trial, but as with Tucker and the SEC, a veritable miracle occurred and suddenly she was off the hook. After all these months of agonizing and case building, all it took was one overworked, grouchy judge to decide he didn’t feel like hearing it. Poof! Case dismissed. Of course Phyllis still has her family problems to cope with, and it looks like Christine isn’t done with her yet... What do you think of the judge dismissing the case?
