A blast from the past shakes things up on B&B.
Spectra Fashions was once Forrester Creations’ main nemesis, professionally, as well as personally. While the original Spectra clan has been off the canvas for a while, a new cast of colorful Spectra characters have returned to wreak havoc on the first family of fashion. Soaps.com takes a look at the main players, past and present.
The driving force...
Then: The larger than life Sally Spectra (Darlene Conley) was on "The Bold and the Beautiful" canvas from 1989 until 2006. The fiery red head was the owner of Spectra Fashions, whose claim to fame was stealing designs from rival fashion houses, namely the elegant Forrester Creations. Not content with just Forrester’s gowns, Sally also recruited a few of her rival’s employees over the years, including designer and resident cad Clarke Garrison (Dan McVicar) (who she eventually married and had a child with), and Forresters Felicia (Lesli Kay), Thorne (Winsor Harmon) and Thomas (Drew Tyler Bell, Adam Gregory and now Pierson Fode). While Sally and Forrester patriarch Eric (John McCook) shared a begrudging respect, the same could not be said for her and matriarch Stephanie (Susan Flannery), as they endured a decades-long feud. (Who can forget the drunken night Sally shaved Stephanie’s head or when their fights ended with Sally in the pool!) They eventually found some common ground though and became, if not full blown friends, then at the very least, frenemies. After losing her company and battling health issues, Sally left Southern California for the south of France in 2006. Sadly, the actress who portrayed Sally, Darlene Conley, passed away in 2007, but the character continues to live on via updates on her exploits, usually involving hot young cabana boys.
Now: Sally’s grand niece and namesake Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) arrived on the fashion scene in early 2017 to bring Spectra Fashions back to life. She began by renting the Spectra building from Sally’s son (and her cousin) CJ Garrison (Mick Cain), who stipulated she had six months to prove herself or else he would sell to Bill Spencer (Don Diamont). Like her great aunt, Sally targeted the Forresters to make a name for herself. Sally’s tactics have included crashing Zende and Nicole’s wedding, causing a scene with Steffy Forrester (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) (Stephanie Forrester’s granddaughter) for the social media buzz, and planting her unsuspecting younger sister Coco (Courtney Grosbeck) as a mole in Forrester Creations. While great aunt Sally wouldn’t bat an eye at the latter stunt, the younger Sally is conflicted about using her sister, who has developed a crush on RJ Forrester (Anthony Turpel). Likewise, Sally has also set her sights on a Forrester: Steffy’s brother Thomas.
Then: Saul Feinberg (Michael Fox) was Spectra Fashions’ tailor and Sally’s devoted friend. He was so loyal, that upon Sally becoming pregnant with CJ, he offered to marry her when Clarke’s first reaction was to demand she have an abortion. Though grateful, Sally turned him down. The two remained close until his death in 1996, when in reality, Fox, his portrayer, had passed away.
Now: Saul’s grandson, also named Saul Feinberg (Alex Wyse), was hired by Sally and the grandmother who raised her/her partner in crime, scheming Shirley Spectra (Patrika Darbo), who happens to be the original Sally’s sister. Due to his lineage, Saul Jr. was hired to help Spectra get their first line off the ground. During his first days of Spectra employment, he developed a crush on young Sally, while harboring doubts they could pull off their task.
Then: Darla Einstein (Schae Harrison) was Sally Spectra’s assistant and surrogate daughter. Though she began her tenure on the show by helping Sally steal Forrester designs, Darla eventually became a Forrester herself when she had a child with and married spare heir Thorne, who was previously married to Sally’s daughter Macy (Bobbie Eakes). Darla was thrust into many Forrester family battles, but always remained loyal to Sally, who lived with her and Thorne when her health started to decline. Darla’s life was cut short in 2006 when Taylor Forrester (Hunter Tylo) accidentally ran her down with her car.
Now: Darlita (Danube Hermosillo) was brought into the Spectra fold by young Saul to serve as the quirky receptionist. Her standout traits thus far include not fully grasping Sally’s sarcasm and becoming flustered around the strapping Thomas Forrester.
