A Telenovela is a limited-run television series, similar to Soap Operas. The short television series are run usually for a span of six months, to two years, and are mostly aired primetime, six nights a week. They're most often produced in Latin American countries; however we've found that in addition, they have been aired in Quebec, Canada. The French-Canadian version of the Telenovela is called a Teleroman (tele-novel) which is a French language dramatic television series, also similar to a soap opera.
These programs have been running for decades, and recently, Soaps.com discovered that plans are underway in the United States, to adapt the telenovela /teleroman concept to the English language television networks! In fact, ABC is said to be planning on turning Betty La Fea (Yo soy Betty, la fea- I am Betty, the Ugly One), a successful Columbian telenovela, into a drama. Ugly Betty has already made the Fall 2006-2007 television season lineup, with Ana María Orozco starring as "Betty".
