    Passions' Future in Canada

    Tuesday, May 01 2007

    (NBC)
We're sorry to have to report some sad news starts this week to Canadian viewers. Global TV has decided that it will not be pursuing rights to air the show in Canada. Passions will end its run in the great white north on September the 7th. Since the show officially announced its move to DirecTV last week, many Canadian viewers have become concerned that they will no longer be able to see it. DirecTV is not available in Canada and cannot broadcast outside of the United States. The only hope now is that the show will become available via the internet, but this hasn't gone well for Canadians so far either. iTunes downloads of the show have not been available in Canada and web based viewing on the NBC site has also been unavailable to people outside of the United States. Both iTunes and streaming video may become a thing of the past in the U.S. this fall as well, but no definitive decision has been made so far.

On a more optimistic note, Passions will not be moving to DirecTV until September and four months is a very long time in the entertainment industry. The show originally debuted in Canada on CTV before they gave it up and Global picked it up in its second year. This could be another opportunity for a new station to pick up the show. With the substantial, and loyal, Canadian fanbase for the show, NBC and DirecTV would certainly benefit from holding onto this market. Soaps.com keep you informed of any developments as they arise.

If you would like to write to Global to lobby them to reconsider negotiating a distribution deal for the show in Canada, or just to give them a piece of your mind, you can reach them at the following:

ning that is just going to disappear. I have watch it since it first came out and have enjoy it but now I am too disappoint to continue to watch something that will never end for me.

Don't know what to say? Say this

    SUN TV
Dear SUN TV, As you may already know, Starting this fall the popular NBC daytime drama "Passions" will move from NBC to The American satellite company DirecTV (owned by Newscorp) in the U.S.!

However DirecTV is illegal in Canada, The only way Canadians can continue to watch Passions is if a Canadian network continues to air it. Global Television which currently airs Passions has CONFIRMED that they have no plans to air Passions once it moves to DirecTV this fall.

Passions has a very big and loyal fanbase, with many of them living in Canada. Passions would be a great edition to the SUN TV schedule. The final NBC/Global episode of Passions (airing September 7th) will have many cliffhangers so you can be rest assured that Canadian Passions fans will continue to watch Passions once it moves to SUN TV.

Not only that but Passions will become a SUN TV Canadian exclusive! Not only will SUN TV get all the viewers who watched Passions on Global but SUN TV will also get all the Canadian viewers who watched Passions on NBC (In Toronto Global doesn't simulcast Passions so some viewers watch at 2:00PM on NBC with others watching at 3:30PM on Global)

It's a win win! Not only will you make tons of obsessed Passions fans happy but you will also get ALOT of new viewers! Your ratings go up and Passions fans are happy!

SUN TV has picked up many shows that were pulled/droped by Canadian networks, so Passions should be a perfect fit on SUN TV

In The U.S. Passions is the #1 daytime drama in Adults 18-34 (tied with Days of Our Lives) and Passions is the #1 daytime drama in Viewers 12-24.

Bring buzz & viewers to SUN TV! Pick up Passions this fall and make millions of Canadians happy!

    NTV
Dear NTV, As you may already know, Starting this fall NBC's popular daytime drama "Passions" will move from NBC to The American satellite company DirecTV (owned by Newscorp). However DirecTV is illegal in Canada. The only way Canadians can continue to watch Passions this fall is if NTV continues to air it.

Global Television, which currently airs Passions in the rest of Canada has CONFIRMED that they have NO PLANS to air Passions once it moves from NBC to DirecTV in the U.S.

This means that unless NTV picks up Passions, Canadian viewers wont be able to watch!

Passions has a very big and loyal fanbase, with many of them living in Canada. Please please please continue to air Passions once it moves to DirecTV this fall!

The final NBC episode of Passions will have many cliffhangers so you can be rest assured that Canadian Passions fans will continue to watch Passions on NTV once DirecTV picks it up. Also Passions will become a NTV Canadian Exclusive, That means you will not only get all the viewers that already watch Passions on NTV but you will also get ALL the viewers who currently watch Passions on Global & NBC stations across Canada! As you know NTV is already on digital cable, Bell ExpressVU & Star Choice, well now everyone in Canada will watch Passions on ONE station NTV!

Not only will you make Passions fans across Canada happy but your ratings will go up BIG TIME! NTV will truely be CANADA'S SUPERSTATION if they continue to air Passions this fall!

In The U.S. Passions is the #1 daytime drama in Adults 18-34 (tied with Days of Our Lives) and Passions is the #1 daytime drama in Viewers 12-24.

Please don't let millions of Canadians down! Continue to air Passions once it moves to DirecTV this fall!

I am so disappointed with NBC and the Soap Opera Channel for not picking up Passions. I have cable and am going to really miss Passions when it goes off the air. I wish they would reconsider selling it to another TV Station.
